"We'll find a way in there," Lee states confidently.
"Thank you so much for helping us. We urgently need nitroglycerin pills. Please get inside and look for them. I'll keep an eye on my dad," Lilly replies, her voice laced with concern.
"Everyone else should get comfortable and search for anything useful—we could be stuck here for a while," Kenny adds, looking around the cramped store.
"I'm beginning to think this drugstore isn't a sustainable refuge," Glenn comments, nervously scanning the shelves.
"You're right; this place ain't exactly Fort Knox," Kenny agrees, glancing at the store's flimsy barricades.
"What do you propose we do?" Lee questions, trying to keep the team focused.
"We need to acquire as much gasoline as we can to make our escape from downtown Macon—quickly," Glenn suggests with urgency.
"Agreed," Lee nods resolutely.
"Then I'll go look for gas. There's a motel not far from here, out towards the end of Peachtree. I'll make my way there and then loop back, siphoning gas from any abandoned vehicles I can find along the way," Glenn explains, determination in his voice.
"You're insane," Lee shakes his head in disbelief.
"Well, it has to be done. Plus, I'm quick and familiar with Macon," Glenn replies, a hint of pride in his tone.
"Local?" Lee asks, cracking a smile.
Glenn grins back. "Born and raised."
Suddenly, Eddie interjects, "I'm coming with you," stepping away from the counter.
"No!" Katjaa, his mother, protests immediately, standing up in alarm.
"And I'll be faster on my own," Glenn adds, trying to reason with Eddie.
"No," Eddie insists as he turns to his mother. "Glenn needs someone to watch his back." He then looks back at Glenn. "And what are you going to do if you get into trouble? Lee can't go—he has to stay with Clementine. And my dad," he points to Kenny, "is in charge now. Carley can't go either because she's our only sharpshooter... or gunwoman, or whatever."
Glenn lets out a frustrated grumble. "Fine..."
"Eddie!" Katjaa resumes her stern, motherly tone, but Kenny interrupts her frustration with a heavy sigh.
"Just let him go, hun," Kenny concedes.
"Ken?!" she exclaims, surprised.
"He's right. We need that gas, and someone has to ensure Glenn makes it back," Kenny states, glancing at Eddie, who nods in agreement.
After a moment of hesitation, the two young men exit the pharmacy through the back door and climb into Glenn's pizza delivery car.
As they drive, an intense silence envelops them, only broken by the occasional stop to siphon gasoline from abandoned vehicles.
Arriving at the motel, they quickly discover it is overrun by walkers.
"Shit, get down!" Eddie hisses, pulling Glenn to the ground just as a nearby zombie growls. Both men hide behind a wall, their hearts pounding in their chests.
After a tense moment, the zombie shuffles away, and Glenn exhales a sigh of relief.
"This isn't worth the trouble—" Glenn starts to vocalize his hesitation, but is abruptly cut off by the sound of a young girl crying from within one of the motel rooms.
"We have to help her," Glenn insists, his demeanor shifting from fear to determination.
"You've got to be kidding me! What happened to 'this isn't worth it?'" Eddie grumbles sarcastically.
"We can't just leave her!" Glenn insists passionately.
"I ain't dying for a coochie!" Eddie shakes his head vigorously.
"I'm saving her, with or without you," Glenn glares defiantly.
The two share a tense stare until Eddie lets out a deep sigh of resignation. "For fuck's sake… Alright." Eddie nods reluctantly.
Eddie peeks his head over the fence, scanning the area for threats before ducking back down. "We'll have to take out these walkers quietly. They have exceptional hearing," he strategizes.
When Eddie scans the area again, he spots a zombie hunched over a corpse. "Oh man, it's eating something," he observes, uneasy.
Suddenly, realization washes over Eddie, followed by embarrassment. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a sheathed hunting knife, having forgotten he even had it since the chaos began. He had bought it long ago, inspired by his love for using knives in video games like Call of Duty.
"Alright then," Eddie whispers, his voice trembling slightly with nerves.
"What are you doing?" Glenn asks, confusion knitting his brows.
Without warning, Eddie rushes toward the zombie, plunging the knife into the back of its head before it even knows he's there. The creature collapses lifelessly to the ground.
"Dude!" Glenn exclaims, sprinting to keep up as Eddie heads toward the RV.
Eddie glances around the RV and sees another walker lurking behind it, oblivious to the commotion. With adrenaline pumping, he taps his knife against the side of the RV, drawing the walker's attention. As it approaches, Eddie swiftly stabs it through the eye, silencing it instantly.
Eddie takes a shaky breath, the gravity of their situation momentarily dawning on him. Together, he and Glenn sprint back to the fence, crouching low as they hurry to the other side. Eddie peeks out again and spots a walker slumped against a car, completely stationary—maybe it can't stand.
"I got this," Eddie announces, leaping out and delivering a fatal stab to the walker's eyes. Dropping the creature, he and Glenn crouch behind the car, strategically distancing themselves from the only remaining walker on ground level.
"Dude, you're like James Bond!" Glenn chuckles quietly, a hint of admiration in his voice.
"Haha..." Eddie chuckles back, a mix of disbelief and adrenaline coursing through him. Suspense fills the air as he contemplates how to take down the last walker lurking nearby.
"Maybe we should push the car toward it?" Glenn suggests, pointing to the vehicle in front of the walker, and Eddie nods enthusiastically.
Glenn opens the car door and disengages the parking brake before quickly closing the door. Together, they push the car forward, rolling it toward the unsuspecting walker. When the walker finally notices, it's far too late; the car pins it against the wall. The two other walkers, who had been pounding on the door of the crying girl, momentarily turn their attention to the noise but quickly revert their focus.
Rushing over to the pinned walker, Eddie drives his knife into its skull. As Glenn looks around, he spots an axe lodged in an emergency box with shattered glass, a spark of hope igniting in his eyes as he claims the weapon for himself.
They swiftly ascend the staircase to the second floor, cautiously rounding a corner as Eddie leads the way toward the door where the cries are coming from. The sounds of shuffling footsteps alert them to approaching walkers.
Eddie grabs one by the shoulder and quickly stabs it in the temple, while Glenn, albeit with a hint of hesitation, brings down the axe onto the head of another walker, splattering brain matter across the floor.
"Rad..." Glenn exhales, his heart finally slowing down as they approach the motel room.
Eddie knocks twice on the door, urgency creeping into his voice. "Hello?!"
"Please, just go away!" the voice of the woman inside pleads, drenched in fear.
Eddie shrugs, turning to leave.
"She's in trouble!" Glenn insists, grabbing Eddie's arm firmly.
"Then help her!" Eddie responds, showing signs of frustration.
Glenn takes a deep breath, his resolve strengthening. "We're coming in!" He swings down hard with the axe, breaking apart the makeshift barricade. He jiggles the doorknob desperately, but it's locked. With all his might, he kicks the door.
"Stop! Just stop! I'm coming out…" the girl's voice trembles.
As she opens the door, her pale face is illuminated in the dim light, revealing a bloody wound on her abdomen.
"Shit," Eddie mutters, shaking his head in dismay as he turns to look away.
"You're hurt!" Glenn exclaims, stepping closer, concern etched on his face.
"I...I told you to stay away!" she cries out, tears streaming down her face.
"We need to get you help," Glenn insists, his voice gentle but urgent.
"It's too late for that," she mutters despondently.
"Wait, she's bitten," Eddie realizes, piecing together her words with grim understanding.
"What?!" Glenn gasps, shock flooding his system. "We can find something for you, medicine—anything!"
"I won't be fine. My boyfriend was bitten. You get sick, you die, and you come back to kill anything you see," she rants, her voice growing more frantic.
"You have a boyfriend?" Glenn blurts out, disappointment shadowing his features.
Eddie, feeling an urge to intervene, slaps Glenn lightly across the head. "Focus, man!"
"I don't want that. It's not Christian. Please, just leave me. Please go," she pleads tearfully.
"Alright... Uh... God bless you," Eddie nods, his voice thick with resignation.
"God bless you too…" she sniffs, her eyes forlorn as Eddie turns to leave.
Glenn opens his mouth, uncertain of what to say, then finally musters, "Goodbye..." before running after Eddie, both of them burdened by the weight of the encounter.
