Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Playing Finance, All Big Shots

"Mr. Kun, sorry to have kept you waiting."

"No worries, I've just come downstairs myself."

As Lu Liang arrived downstairs, he ran into Meng Changkun and then planned to head to the parking lot to drive his car.

"Take my car, it's right at the door, so you don't have to worry about finding your way," Meng Changkun suggested. He was dressed in shorts, a T-shirt, and sneakers, standing there with his belly out, chuckling, obviously in a good mood.

In comparison, Lu Liang seemed a bit preoccupied, his thoughts dominated by the matter of the voice.

If it were just a one-time opportunity, maybe he wouldn't be so anxious, considering it a lottery win.

But having experienced it twice, first becoming a multi-millionaire and then doubling his wealth,

that kind of feeling was too good to quit; he wasn't prepared for the thought of the voice disappearing.

"Lu?" Meng Changkun's reminder snapped Lu Liang out of his thoughts. "Mr. Kun, your plan sounds good to me."

Meng Changkun led Lu Liang to the western gate of the complex, where a black Maybach was parked by the road.

"Little Liu, to the Land King Building." Once seated in the back, Meng Changkun greeted the driver.

He looked at Lu Liang, "Are you feeling alright? You seem off today."

"Just thinking about work, but it's nothing major." Lu Liang exhaled and his smile returned.

Back when he had nothing, he managed to settle down in Modu; having over twenty million in cash now, he could retire in a small city if need be.

"Bro, I still don't know what you do for a living?" Meng Changkun asked curiously.

"Nothing much recently, just trading some stocks, studying the markets," Lu Liang casually revealed.

"You're quite the dark horse, anyone in finance is a big shot," Meng Changkun was surprised.

He had thought of many industries but never imagined that Lu Liang was a full-time financial speculator.

In all industries, finance was the pinnacle, directly or indirectly serving or targeting finance.

Whenever society gets a new trend, the financial markets are always the first to respond.

But this field is deep and treacherous. Meng Changkun himself had previously invested millions, nearly losing everything.

Eventually, he stuck with venture capital, investing hundreds of thousands or millions in startups.

Though many failed, just one success could result in flipping shares for tens or hundreds of millions.

"Mr. Kun is teasing me, I'm no big shot, just picking up leftovers behind the real players."

Lu Liang was being realistic; he was at most a large account holder but just a minnow before the true sharks.

"Don't sell yourself short, everyone starts small."

Meng Changkun chuckled, yet kept watchful, steering away from delving too deep into this topic.

The finance world was complex not only due to intricate play but also due to swindlers that ran rampant.

Meng Changkun knew of several such real-life examples; a Friend of his met someone claiming to be a financial speculator.

At first, this person guided his Friend to trade stocks in smaller exchanges, where each stock only had a market cap of a few hundred million, and a few hundred thousand or even tens of thousands could sway the market.

The manipulators only needed to bait a few 'suckers' and spend a bit of money to move the market, giving them a taste of success before luring them into offshore financing or private placements.

Once private placements were involved, profit and loss became nothing but numbers changed at the whim of the manipulator's fingers.

Even if you could make a million in a day from ten thousand, if that money can't be withdrawn, it's just fake numbers.

His Friend was conned out of tens of millions, half of it company money, and ended up having to sell his properties and borrow money just to avoid jail.

The stolen money, of course, was unrecoverable, as the servers and the core group behind these schemes were based abroad.

"Mr. Kun, what's the name of the film today?"

Lu Liang noticed that Meng Changkun was on guard.

It's human nature, after all, pies don't fall from the sky, but pitfalls can appear on the ground at any time.

If someone introduces a surefire business deal, you should reflect on why they approached you. Do they not have relatives or friends? Why would they leave this money-making opportunity for you?

Meng Changkun thought for a while, "Seems like I heard Old Wu mention it, it's called 'Disc Immortal Battle Pen Immortal'. Yeah, that's the name."

"..." Lu Liang was speechless, blinked, "Just by hearing the name, you know there will be lots of beautiful women."

Meng Changkun laughed heartily, "That's for sure, otherwise, why would we bother going?"

He added, "But the leading lady, secondary lead actress, and leading man have already been decided. The main auditions are for the third and fourth female roles."

Lu Liang suddenly asked, "Those who were decided, whose kids are they, or whose lovers?"

"Cough cough~ Lu, don't put it so bluntly," Meng Changkun replied with an embarrassed look and a somewhat unnatural smile.

Lu Liang showed a knowing smile that all men understand, "The leading lady, or the secondary lead actress?"

Meng Changkun smirked, "The secondary lead actress, graduated from the arts college last year. So young, and what a figure."

Just by the name of the movie, it was clear it would flop. If it wasn't for promoting his little lover, he wouldn't bother investing a penny.

Lu Liang showed an admiring face, "Brother, you really know how to play the game."

"When the time comes, I'll let you pick out a few scripts too. These young girls nowadays are very 'dedicated' for a chance to appear on the big screen."

Meng Changkun smirked with an experienced air, "Everyone knows that being a star is great, you're the center of attention, and the money comes quickly."

"But with so many art schools all over the country, being beautiful with a good figure is just the basic requirement."

"If you have no network or connections and are not willing to 'work hard,' how can you catch our eye?"

"The key point is, we don't have to spend our own money."

Lu Liang was puzzled, "What do you mean by that?"

Meng Changkun explained, "Investing in movies is a business act; you don't think I would pay out of my own pocket, do you?"

"Understood," Lu Liang realized, it's just like buying cars, houses, and airplanes in the name of the company.

Enjoying oneself while the company foots the bill.

At ten in the morning, the two arrived on the 16th floor of the Land King Building, Good Dream Production Co., Ltd.

Just stepping out of the elevator, they saw a sea of fair-skinned long legs and surging cleavages.

More than twenty young and beautiful girls with an average age of about twenty gave Lu Liang the impression he had entered a high-end private club.

"Mr. Wu Tianzheng, the general manager of Good Dream, Lu Liang, my friend."

Meng Changkun introduced calmly; it was not difficult to see that he was on the more dominant side of the relationship with Wu Tianzheng.

Wu Tianzheng was all smiles, "Boss Lu, hello, just call me Little Wu."

He understood Meng Changkun well; he heard that Meng was already a billionaire ten years ago, so his friends must be no ordinary people.

In the entertainment industry, the more investors you know, the more powerful you are, and Wu Tianzheng was very deferential in his posture.

"Mr. Wu, hello, I'm just accompanying Mr. Kun to have a look. You can carry on with your work; don't mind me," Lu Liang said.

"Old Wu, Lu seems to be a bit interested. Later on, give him a list of movies seeking investment to check out."

Meng Changkun was intentionally testing Lu Liang's depth. If he was all show no substance, or the type of swindler he suspected, naturally he wouldn't invest, nor would he be worth cultivating a deep relationship with.

"Of course, of course, Boss Lu, please have a seat while I go get the materials," Wu Tianzheng's old face beamed with joy.

This is a Daddy Warbucks; he knew it, getting to know more wealthy people indeed had its perks.
