Chapter 7 - 005 Runaway

Yang Ming was contemplating how to refuse the reward.

In the projection screen, several faint red laser beams flashed by, creating thumb-sized holes in the limbs of the Valkyrie who was laying on the ground.

There were two additional wounds on the shoulder joints than what Yang Ming had proposed.

The captain in the fire control cabin below asked through the radio, "Do we need to inflict more injuries, Professor?"

"Enough," Kigrov immediately said, "It's enough, don't hurt her anymore. Let the assault team go up, and let all the Transformed Bodies enter deep sleep; they are all our precious results."

"Alright, Professor," the captain's voice sounded somewhat reluctant.

In the projection screen, rows of Empire soldiers wielding laser guns and wearing protective suits stormed into the lower hold and swiftly pressed the necks of the transformed people with their knees.

The Valkyrie suddenly opened her eyes, and again red ripples blossomed.

But the helmets of the soldiers displayed a light blue protective film, safeguarding their fragile brains and sensitive brainwaves.

Just as Yang Ming had said earlier, the Valkyrie would lose her ability to move when multiple penetrating injuries appeared on her body.

Several syringes attempted to pierce into the Valkyrie's pale, smooth skin, her limbs trembled incessantly, but she was unable to move.

The voice of the assault team, in disarray, emanated from the console's built-in speaker:

"My God! Captain, look, the Valkyrie's wounds are healing, the burn marks have vanished."

"Unlimited cell proliferation? Has she fused with the genes of the Insect Race?"

"What kind of monster is this! Although she is beautiful! Damn it, bring over the thickest syringe, my syringe can't get through!"

"Inject the sleeping agent through her wounds, her skin has extremely high resilience... she is indeed a monster."

Kigrov sternly said, "Captain, make your people shut up!"

"Alright, Professor."

The captain cut off the voice sync of the action team, and the console returned to silence, leaving only Kigrov's rapid breathing.

Yang Ming, standing behind, stopped himself from speaking.

Kigrov's breathing gradually smoothed, and he slowly turned around, his mechanical eye shining with dark red spots.

"Let's go, Hanton," Kigrov gathered his spirit, "I will personally perform your transformation surgery."

Yang Ming immediately said, "Professor, I think... at a time like this, I need to maintain the spacecraft's equipment, especially after such a major disturbance."

"Isn't this what you have always wanted?"

Kigrov stared at Yang Ming, "Why don't I see a hint of happiness on your face, Hanton?"

"Professor," Yang Ming forced an ugly smile, "I just injured my head, and I'm still feeling dizzy now; I worry it might affect the success rate of the transformation."

"That won't impact anything," Kigrov seemed to be looking for something on Yang Ming's face, "This is the reward you should receive, Hanton, why do I feel like you have suddenly changed?"

Damn, am I about to be exposed?

Yang Ming was shocked at Kigrov's insight and frantically pondered the current situation in his mind.

Although Kigrov looked amiable at the moment, deep down he was a murderous psychopath who valued life less than dirt;

If Kigrov became suspicious of him, his situation would be extremely dangerous.

But that 35% fatality rate...

"Professor, how about we wait until this matter is over, I still have lots of work to handle."

"I do not easily make promises, Captain Hanton, and when I do make them, I do not change my mind."

"But Professor!"

Yang Ming took a half step forward, suddenly, halting footsteps sounded from the side, four guards appeared left and right, with the red dots of laser guns aimed at Yang Ming's forehead.

"Don't be nervous, Hanton, I understand you."

Kigrov, leaning on a cane, walked towards the staircase, no longer looking at Yang Ming, but instead turned and said:

"Captain, personally escort Vice Captain Hanton to the backup laboratory, encourage this young man, let my assistants prepare him if they are still able to move."

The captain, just leaving the console, looked at Yang Ming with a complex gaze and gestured for him to follow.

"Thank you, Professor."

Yang Ming squeezed out a smile and turned towards the captain without looking back.

In the projection screen, the Valkyrie was lifted by the soldiers onto an adjacent laboratory table, quickly bound up like a rice dumpling, and more sleeping agents were injected.

...

The captain was a meticulous soldier, entirely loyal to the Empire and to Professor Kigrov.

On the way to the backup laboratory where he was 'escorted,' Yang Ming constantly looked for opportunities to breakthrough, the moment they left the bridge, the moment they entered the elevator, the moment the elevator transitioned to a microgravity environment...

All the possible moments for resistance were thoroughly blocked by the experienced captain.

From Hanton's memory, it was known that when the situation arose—when the soldiers aboard the ship turned off the safety on their laser guns and aimed at the head of the experimental subject, it indicated they were ready to shoot at any time.

There had been incidents before where experimental subjects had their brains blown out.

The current situation was that undergoing transformation still held a chance for survival, confronting them directly had slim chances of survival, plus there was some leeway in the matter of transformation.

'After all, there's still a 65% chance of survival...'

Yang Ming thought, trying to comfort himself.

The backup laboratory was located one floor above the lower hold, the restarted elevator directly took them to the laboratory's door.

On either side, the silver-grey alloy doors opened, and several pre-instructed lab personnel, with faces full of terror, anxiously watched the door.
