Chereads / Ten Dates And More / Chapter 4 - His Determination

Chapter 4 - His Determination

Nonso knew that going to Trace Firms was a gamble. He knew Afoma was ready to throw him out if she could, but he also knew she couldn't, given the nature of her job. Seeing her after so long, made him realize her beauty only heightened. From her brown skin, to her lips, to her body, down to her clothes, Afoma had and will always be perfect. When she put her soft hand on his, he had to resist kissing it. It had been years since he held her hand, and all because of his silly self. He will never forgive himself for it, but at least, he has changed, and is here to fight for them. Hopefully, he will be given a chance.

Based on his research, Trace Firms was a good one to work with, but he still had to check it himself, plus Evans, his lawyer, is a stickler for order, and he wouldn't be happy if he signed the deal without a meeting. Even now, when Nonso knows he will be signing with them, he still has to let Evans go through the I's and T's. He knows he'll be rereading the contract like a paranoid expecting mother, but he still had to let him do his job even though it means he'll sign the contract later than he planned to. Meaning, he will not get my first date as soon as he wants it. Normally, He will be taking her for a dinner date seeing as it's date number one. Since Afoma also limited his options, he will have to make do. There are a lot of fun things to do here in Lagos.

David then looks at Nonso when he enters the car, and asks, "You've finally talked to her right? What did she say?"

"After a little persuasion, she agreed. Reluctantly." He rolls his eyes, glares at Nonso, and says, "Don't tell me that after planning this reunion for months, I'm getting an edited version of it."

Nonso gives him the full run down, and he whistles and says, "I mean, what you did was bribery, but we both know you would've still picked  her company even if she rejected you fully."

Nonso nods and says, "Of course. I won't be caught giving up, or letting her go. I just want her to trust me again, and give me her love. I know what happened was bad, and I don't plan on forcing her to forgive me, but I'll love it if she does. I'll also understand if she doesn't, but of course I won't stop trying. I love her."

David rolls his eyes, and pretends to puke, and Nonso says, "Look at you, a happily married man. Who is also the biggest simp on this earth, trying to pretend like you are not rooting for me."

He looks at Nonso up and down, and says, "Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm actually on Afoma's side. The way you treated her, and barely heard her side of the story, was bad."

Nonso scoffs, "You don't have to remind me. I remember. I regret it every single day. I miss her. I love her. I want her back, but she has hardened herself. I understand it serves me right, but I just miss how she was around me."

"Of course you will. The question though is will you stand by her no matter what?"

"Yes of course. I know I could not do it last time, but I am here for her, and I'm here to her."

David nods, and says, "Let me finish the letter then we will talk about this proposal."

Once they get to Nonso's office, his assistant comes to inform him that his mother has been blowing up his line. Ever since Nonso found out about his mother's involvement in his relationship, he has not been on speaking terms with her. Neither has he been visiting his parents. Although his father wasn't a part of her shenanigans, he still didn't want him to marry Afoma. Right now, though, he is doing what he should have done earlier. Afoma had always been the one for him, and it won't change. He tells his assistant to call his mum. Then he says, "hello mum." She immediately starts wailing on the phone. He feel a pang of guilt because she's his mother, then he remembers what she did to Afoma, and he bites his lips from apologizing. "My son," she wails. "I'm sorry. I thought I was doing what was right for you. I also thought she was with you for your money."

He rolls his eyes as if she could see him,and says, "She worked, ma. She had her own money. She never needed mine, and didn't even know the extent of my wealth until I told her. I told you about all these, but you were hell bent on me listening to you because you couldn't control our relationship. You always thought I'll be with a girl you hand picked, but I never wanted that. I hope you can respect both Afoma and I, and leave us alone. I also know you offered her money to leave you, and she never told me so that I won't see you in a different light. Now though, I already see you in that light. Good bye mum." He cuts the call after that, and texts Afoma.

After forty-four minutes, she replies, "How did you get my new number?"

I type, "Sandra."

She sends an angry and eye roll emoji, and types, "Is there a reason you're texting me? We haven't finalized the deal, and we aren't talking about the dates so..."

He smiles and replies, "I just wanted to talk to you."

When he notices that he is not getting a reply for a while, he laughs because he knows she has blocked him. Obviously, he still had a long way to go. He stays half a day in the office, and goes home thinking.

How exactly will he make Afoma hear him out?

How will he make her forgive him?

Will she like the dates he picked?

He sighs, and starts drawing since he is home and tired.

Winning her back will be very tasking, but he was willing to try.

He was reading to win the love of his life back.
