Port area was vast and bustling, but it was a poverty-stricken bustle.

The prosperity here differed completely from that of the downtown or that of the Bay Area.

The same support services in the port area meant girls who needed help could only wear cheap, second-hand clothes that might still be stained as they stood under the streetlights at alley entrances, waiting for business to come along.

Clients arrived, negotiated a price, and then headed to the alleys. It was just a cheap transaction; aside from discussing matters related to the price with clients, the girls wouldn't say anything else; it was just business.

In the Bay Area, even streetwalkers could sit on the chairs of those open-air cafes that seemed relaxed and cozy, sipping coffee, flirting playfully.

They could engage in a little foreplay, have a chat, and then when the mood struck, they'd go to a nearby hotel; sometimes, they'd treat business like a romantic encounter.
