Chapter 2 - I:You were chosen

The Going Merry rocked gently on the waves, its sails catching the brisk East Blue breeze. The sun hung low, casting long shadows across the deck. Nami sat alone at the ship's bow, her knees pulled to her chest. Her usually sharp gaze wandered aimlessly over the horizon.

Her hands tingled, faint sparks of golden light flickering across her fingertips before fading. She clenched them into fists, hiding the glow from view.

"Host, your hesitation impedes optimization," the voice echoed in her mind, calm and unyielding.

She flinched but kept her expression neutral. She couldn't let the others see her like this—not yet. "What do you mean by 'optimization'?" she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of the waves.

"Your potential exceeds your current capabilities. The System exists to unlock your true power."

She bit her lip, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. "I don't need some mysterious voice telling me what to do."

"That is inaccurate," the System replied, unperturbed. "Without my guidance, your progress would be inefficient."

A shadow fell over her.

"You've been sitting here for hours." Zoro's deep voice cut through her thoughts.

Nami's head snapped up. Zoro stood a few feet away, arms crossed, his expression unreadable.

"I'm fine," she said quickly, forcing a smile. "Just thinking about Loguetown."

Zoro's eyes narrowed slightly. "You've been quiet since you woke up. That's not like you."

Her fingers twitched, the faintest flicker of gold appearing before she stuffed her hands into her pockets. "I'm just tired, okay? Not everything needs a swordsman's analysis."

Zoro grunted but didn't push further. "Suit yourself. Just don't collapse again."

As he turned to leave, she exhaled, the tension in her shoulders easing. But the System wasn't done.

"Observation: the swordsman is suspicious. Suggest increased discretion to maintain Host's secrecy."

"Yeah, no kidding," Nami muttered under her breath.

Luffy was sprawled out on the figurehead, grinning as the wind ruffled his hair. Usopp and Sanji were bickering near the mast, their voices carrying across the deck.

"Sanji, I swear, this is how you tie a perfect knot!" Usopp declared, holding up a mess of rope that looked anything but perfect.

"Your knots are as reliable as your lies," Sanji shot back, lighting a cigarette with an exasperated sigh.

"Wanna bet?" Usopp challenged, puffing out his chest.

"Stop wasting rope! We need that for the sails!"

The argument dissolved into more shouting, and Luffy's laughter echoed above it all.

Nami stood and walked toward them, the familiar chaos easing her nerves. She slipped into her usual role effortlessly.

"Oi, keep it down, you two," she said, smirking. "You're giving me a headache."

"Nami-swan!" Sanji immediately pivoted, hearts practically floating from his eyes. "I was just defending the ship from this clumsy sniper's sabotage!"

"Clumsy?!" Usopp pointed dramatically. "I'll have you know I was tying knots before you were frying eggs!"

"Enough," she said, rolling her eyes. "We're almost at Loguetown. Focus on preparing the ship, not arguing like kids."

"Loguetown…" Luffy's voice was soft, a rare tone of reflection.

They all turned to look at him.

"That's where the Pirate King was executed, right?" he said, staring at the horizon.

Nami's gaze lingered on Luffy. Despite his usual carefree nature, there was a fire in his eyes—a determination that seemed unshakable.

"Yeah," she said, her voice steady. "It's also where we'll stock up before heading to the Grand Line."

"Grand Line…" Usopp muttered, his bravado faltering. "It's gonna be dangerous, isn't it?"

"Of course," Zoro said, leaning against the railing. "That's why we're going."

Luffy's grin returned, wide and full of excitement. "It's where adventure really starts!"

As the crew fell into discussion about their plans, Nami's mind wandered back to the System.

"Host," it spoke again, interrupting her thoughts. "Loguetown presents an opportunity. The system will unlock your first ability upon completion of a critical event."

Her eyes narrowed. "What kind of event?"

"Specifics will become clear in time. Prepare yourself."

Nami clenched her fists, the golden light flickering again.

Later that evening, under the glow of the moon, Nami stood alone on the deck. The others had retired for the night, but sleep eluded her.

"Why me?" she whispered, staring at the ocean. "Why do I have this… system?"

There was no immediate reply, only the gentle sound of waves lapping against the hull. Then, finally:

"You were chosen."

"Chosen for what?"

"To rewrite your destiny."
