Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Sunagakure Surrenders

"Trouble! Konoha's forces are attacking again!"

"So many... so many explosive tags!"

"Quick! We need reinforcements over here!"

"I don't want to die…"

The chaotic cries of Sunagakure's shinobi echoed across the battlefield.

Inside the command tent, Chiyo's expression darkened. She abruptly rose, gathering the village Counsellors, and rushed outside. When they looked up, they saw dozens of Hoshigakure shinobi carrying Konoha's elite jōnin on their backs. The airborne attackers were raining explosive tags down on Sunagakure's positions with reckless abandon.

The sight filled Sunagakure's leaders with frustration and resentment, but beneath the surface, an uncontrollable fear began to fester.

These relentless attacks—like vengeful ghosts—never ceased.

Just last night, they had endured Konoha's devastating aerial raids. Before the shinobi of Sunagakure could even recover, Konoha had returned for another assault.

"Are they trying to annihilate us completely?"

"Counsellor Chiyo, you must make a decision quickly!"

As the explosive tags descended in a deadly dance, dragged by kunai, the Counsellors all turned to Chiyo. Her decision would determine the fate of the village.

Even the shinobi who were frantically fleeing turned their eyes toward the camp's center. They too awaited the ruling of their leaders.

Sunagakure was leaderless—its Fifth Kazekage had not yet been chosen. The only figures with the authority to make such a monumental decision were Counsellor Chiyo and the council.

Fight or surrender—it all came down to them.

Chiyo's gaze flickered, her forehead drenched in cold sweat. She looked up at the Konoha shinobi wreaking havoc in the skies, then down at the heavy casualties littering the battlefield.

At last, she gave a weary nod, her voice hoarse as she whispered, "We surrender to Konoha…"

The Counsellors let out collective sighs of relief. The moment Chiyo nodded, several of the senior council members stepped forward, waving their arms toward the attackers above as they shouted,

"Friends of Konoha! Sunagakure surrenders! Please, cease your attacks!"

High above, the Konoha shinobi paused mid-action. Even the Hoshigakure ninja carrying them stopped in disbelief, questioning if their ears were playing tricks.

Sunagakure... surrendered?

Did this mean the war between Konoha and Sunagakure had ended after only a single week?

"Hey, did I hear that right?" one of the Hoshigakure shinobi asked his comrade.

"You did! Those Sunagakure Counsellors just said they surrender!" his companion replied, his face lighting up with excitement.

The Konoha jōnin leading the assault broke into a smile. Turning to the other shinobi, he instructed,

"First squad, remain here and land at a secure location. If Sunagakure shows any sign of renewed aggression, take to the skies immediately."

"I'll return to the camp and report this to the Hokage."

"Understood!" the others responded with firm nods.

The jōnin gave a faint smile and addressed the Hoshigakure ninja beneath him.

"Brother, we'll need your help. We must return to the camp immediately."

The Hoshigakure shinobi nodded swiftly, still awestruck. His mind lingered on the words of Tobirama Senju before the battle.

Combining the Hoshigakure's Peacock Technique with explosive tags had unleashed unimaginable destruction on the battlefield. Why hadn't they thought of this before?

Then again, even if they had, their small village could never afford the enormous cost of such a strategy.

Tobirama Senju truly lived up to his legend. Not only as a shinobi but as a strategist, he stood leagues above the rest.

Still, the realization that they now fought alongside Konoha filled the Hoshigakure shinobi with pride. His sense of belonging bolstered his spirit, quickening his pace through the skies.

Sunagakure had surrendered.

At first, the Konoha forces struggled to believe the news. After all, most of them hadn't even engaged directly with Sunagakure's forces yet. The war had barely lasted seven days. Could it really be over so quickly?

But when Chiyo and Sunagakure's council personally entered Konoha's main camp, even the most skeptical shinobi had to accept the truth: Sunagakure had truly surrendered.

Inside Tobirama's command tent, the air was tense.

Chiyo and two of the oldest Sunagakure Counsellors sat across from Tobirama at a round table. Beside him were Might Guy and Kakashi Hatake.

Chiyo studied Tobirama closely, as if trying to discern what had changed about this man—the Second Hokage—since his return to life.
