Chereads / Moon's Beloved / Chapter 2 - 2

Chapter 2 - 2

The alpha paced in the moonlit chamber, his footsteps echoing against the cold stone floor. His mind was a whirlwind of thoughts—every step feeling heavier, as though the weight of fate itself was bearing down on him. The cries of his newborn daughter had just begun, sharp and raw, filling the quiet of the night.

His heart thundered in his chest, but he remained still, waiting for the moment that would change everything. The door opened softly, and the doctor entered, his face a mixture of awe and hesitation. The alpha eagerly glanced up, his hands already extended to hold the future and the blessing given by moon goddess. The doctor looked at him and smiled, a mixture of awe and hesitation seen in his eyes.

"Alpha," the doctor began, his voice shaking slightly. "You have a daughter. She is the most beautiful child I have seen yet. But…" The doctor hesitated, eyes flickering nervously.

The alpha's jaw clenched, and he raised his eyebrow to the man, his silence enough for the doctor to continue.

"She's… an Omega, Alpha," the doctor finished, the words hanging heavy in the air.

For a long moment, the alpha said nothing. His gaze remained steady, his thoughts a jumble of emotions. Omega. The word carried so much weight, so many implications. But as he stood there, it felt distant—an abstract concept that couldn't touch the blessing he had from the heavens.

Finally, the alpha's lips curled into a small smile, though there was a depth of sorrow in his eyes, and an inexplicable sense of peace.

Without a word, he walked toward the small cot to lay her down. The moment she opened her eyes, all the tension in his body had already melted away, replaced by a deep, overwhelming protectiveness. Her tiny fingers grasped weakly at his, her cries quieting the instant he touched her.

"Serin," he whispered, the name flowing easily from his lips, a bond forged in that single, sacred moment. "Serin, my daughter."

The weight of her Omega status no longer mattered. She was his—his to protect, to cherish, to love. No title or prophecy would ever change that.

But the same couldn't be said for his mate. The stillness of the room was shattered by a soft but sharp cry from behind him.

He turned just in time to see his mate, Lyana, standing in the doorway, her face flushed with anger and disbelief. Her breath came in shallow, quick bursts, her body rigid as she stood frozen in the frame.

"What did you say?" she demanded, her voice thick with emotion, though there was no mistaking the sharp edge of fear beneath the surface. "She's… an Omega? You let her be born an Omega?" Her words dripped with disbelief and bitterness, her fists clenched tightly at her sides.

The alpha's heart sank, as he turned to face Lyana, his expression steady but his heart heavy.

"Lyana, please. Calm down." His voice was calm, low, but there was a firmness in it—an authority that had ruled entire packs. "She is ours, a gift from the Moon Goddess herself. Nothing can change that."

But Lyana wasn't listening. Her eyes were wide with frustration, and her chest heaved with every breath. Her hand shot out toward the cot, pointing at the small, innocent child inside.

"A gift? You call this a gift?" she spat, her voice rising. "She is an Omega, Alpha! Do you understand what that means? She is pathetic. She will be weak. She will never be strong like us!"

The alpha stepped forward, his eyes softening despite the frustration in his chest. He moved toward her, his hand reaching for hers, but she jerked away, stepping back, her face twisted with anger.

"She's still ours," the alpha said firmly, his voice low but unwavering. "And her status does not define her. She is our daughter, our blood, and she was chosen by the Moon Goddess to be with us. That is all that matters."

But Lyana shook her head violently, tears now streaming down her cheeks. "Chosen? Chosen for what? To be a burden? To be weak and vulnerable, unfit to lead?" She looked at him with a mixture of disbelief and hurt, her voice trembling. "I can't… I can't hold her, Alpha. I can't."

The alpha's chest tightened at her words, but there was a quiet strength in his voice when he spoke next. "Lyana, listen to me." His hand reached out, softly brushing her cheek, and she flinched at the touch, her eyes burning with fury. "She's not a burden. She is a blessing—a miracle, granted to us by the very Moon Goddess who has watched over us. She will grow strong in her own way. And no matter her status, she will be loved. I will love her, and so will you."

The alpha took a deep breath, his heart aching as he reached out once more, his voice a quiet, pleading whisper. "Serin is not just an Omega. She is a part of you. And she is a part of me. And whatever she becomes, we will be there with her, every step of the way. I promised you—we promised each other that we would face whatever comes together."

Lyana's breath hitched as she looked between him and the cot, her chest still trembling with emotions she couldn't seem to contain. Her fingers curled at her sides, the strength in her fists betraying the vulnerability she was fighting to keep hidden.

For a long moment, neither spoke. The air between them was thick with tension, the only sound the soft cooing of their daughter, a small innocent cry. But..... That cry didn't work in softening Lyana's heart, a new flash of hatered was shown in her eyes as she disgustingly looked at the little pure soul and went away.
