Chapter 35 - Let's Talk.

For the next month, Anna recovered tremendously from her unworthy experience, and had gotten to know Mister Truce a little better.

He's very addicted to working and rests when he feels like it, if they were going to be maried, she'd do all whole lot of restructuring in his schedule, like helping him fix his stubble every morning. Well that would be interesting.

He also donates to charity, maybe that's why he fuels himself to work so hard?

A whole lot of difference that did make.

She remembered the way he turned to look at her, with those charming blue eyes on their first meeting. So bold, so egnimatic, so focused. Anna sighed, as she continued her stroll down the snow covered beach. That kind of man, could either do wonders to a woman's heart or destroy the entire universe.

She snuggled into her oversized, cream-coloured cashmere coat, when a wisp of cold wind flashed her face. After being cranked up inside the estate, she felt a good walk might strengthen her bones... And senses.

She figured it was time she thought about what she was doing, waiting in the house of a man she just met to come home from work, and eating great, healthy meals she couldn't afford.

"What am I doing with my life?" She could find a job around here ,or busy herself with gossip from the kitchen servants. The latter sounded crude, something befitting the status of Miss Patel.

Chucking at the thought, she recalled her conversation with Cliff, the day he and Sasha both agreed to start dating. Mennnn, she was pleased those two finally agreed on something, and wondered if she would do same with Mr Truce.

Sooner than later, an attack could happen to them again, or her. You'd never know what to expect. Or maybe it would be someone from Valdi. She wondered if Truce made enemies from his kindgom, you won't know till you find out right? A man loaded as Mister Truce would make allies with Hades.

She walked back to the estate, Charlotte was anxiously waiting in the foyer as she approached. "Where have you been, sweetheart? Master Truce is worried?"

About what? Couldn't she have a time to her thoughts? She smiled bleakly at the woman, ushering them both inside, before shutting the door behind her.

His office was to the right, while her room was to the left, with the expansive living room, dividing their sanctuaries.

She rapped twice on the door and walked in, when he called blandly for her.

"Out on your evening strolls again, lady Ruby?" His hair was down, as he stared at charts displaying on a large, TV. He was dressed casually and would probably be stuck in Southampton till the end of the month due to the blizzardlike weather.

His lips were full and inviting, as he relaxed coolly into his chair. His teal colored long sleeve shirt, molded perfectly with his broad chested, perfectly made body.

"Yes, yes I did." How's work?" She tossed the question, not knowing what else to ask.

"Fine." He replied curtly, raising from his chair to meet her. He had a warm smile plastered on his face and wondered what good news made him smile that way. She couldn't point what she felt for this man anymore, but didn't know how long she could resist the urge to tiptoe and kiss those lips of his. She looked away.

"Have a seat." He offered the sofa opposite him politely and she plunkered down.

"I figured you were tired staying in doors all day," he began, his voice was smooth and resounding, alerting Anna of her own body. "Do you have anything to talk about?" He asked and Anna's eyes darted side to side, unsure of what was happening. "Talk... about what Mister Truce?"

"Anything you want." He replied , resting his head on his knuvkles, with his eyes trained on her. He definitely loved hearing her think about him. This conversation was long, overdue.

"Heh," she chuckled, scratching the back of her hair. "Well, Christmas is by the way..."

His smile widened. "Is that what you wanted to talk about?"

 Blink. Blink.

"Okay then, let's start like this. How have you felt since you been around here?"

She'd been empty ever since the diagnosis, doesn't matter where she was. Nothing made sense, than the thoughts of what death would feel like.

"The place is beautiful, the people are nice..." "And how're you feeling?" Bitter, empty, flat, stressed...

"I'm okay... actually, I've wanted to talk to you about the night of the birthday party. It took.me time to remember the details, but..."

"But," "I want to know why? Why was I the target? What did they want from me?" She didn't even want to think what they would have done to her.

Truce sat forward on his seat, his smile faded completely. "I'm... I am really sorry Anna, about that night. A man like me do have many enemies, including those I see as family. That was why I brought you here, where I can keep an eye on you." friendly enemies? She wasn't high on the idea of meeting any business associates of his.

Anna nodded, no wonder the man lived away from humanity, the few ones around only had heads to bow to his requests. Silence.

"How do you spend your Christmas, lady Ruby?" He asked, changing the subject, a rue smile appeared on her lips. The best Christmas she ever enjoyed was when she was eight, before her father died of an accident. Since then, she'd craved her beauty sleep and warm coffee like ants after sugar cubes. She looked straight into his eyes.

"In bed..."
