Tyler's response was swift and decisive. "Anything you need to say, Clara, can be said in front of my woman cause I have nothing to hide from her."
Clara's gaze narrowed, her calculation evident. Introducing herself to Nicole would unsettle her, expose hidden insecurities.
"Nicole, darling," Clara cooed, "I'm Clara Chem, an old...friend of Tyler's."
Nicole's serene smile didn't waver. "Miss Chem, it's Miss Melbourne or Nicole. But all the same, it's lovely to make your acquaintance Miss Chem."
Clara narrows her eyes, anger visible within them but then masks them with a smile.
Tyler seizes the moment, his voice low and reassuring. "Nicole, Clara and I have a past history. I want you to know everything."
Tyler's expression turned somber. "Clara and I...we were complicated. We dated, but it was toxic."
Nicole's ears perked up. "Toxic?"
Tyler nodded. "Clara's possessive, controlling. I thought she loved me like I loved her then but it was all a lie,I was trapped."
Nicole's empathy swelled. "Why did you stay?"
Tyler's eyes dropped. "I was young, naive. I thought I could change her."
Nicole's hand found Tyler's. "You're free now."
Tyler's gaze met hers, gratitude shining.
"Nicole, I am. Thanks to you."
Clara reappeared, her smile icy.
"Tyler, our conversation is far from over," Clara warned.
Tyler stood firm. "Clara, my life's with Nicole now."
Clara's laughter sent shivers down Nicole's spine but in a playful way cause it's been a long time she met an opponent worthy of her attention.
"We'll see about that," Clara whispered, before disappearing into the night.
Nicole's instincts flared. Clara was trouble.
"Tyler, what's Clara capable of?" Nicole asked in a very low tone.
Tyler's face darkened. "Clara will stop at nothing. We need to be careful."
As Tyler recounted his tumultuous past with Clara, Nicole listened attentively, her expression unwavering.
Clara's eyes flashed, her plan to unsettle Nicole faltering. Nicole's composure remained unshaken, her confidence unassailable.
With a dismissive smile, Nicole turned the conversation to the gala's charitable cause, effortlessly steering the discussion away from Clara's drama.
Clara seethed, her schemes foiled by Nicole's unflappable nature.
Tyler's admiration for Nicole deepened. Her strength and poise left him breathless.
As they mingled, Clara's attempts to provoke Nicole only highlighted her own desperation.
"Tyler," Nicole whispered, her voice husky, "I trust you. Handle Clara as you see fit. I have more important things to attend to."
With that, Nicole Melbourne, the ice cold beauty, glided away, leaving Clara to stew in her own frustration.
Clara's eyes blazed with fury as she watched Nicole effortlessly command the room. Her plan to rattle Nicole had backfired.
Seething, Clara retreated to her penthouse, plotting her next move.
" Nicholas, where the hell are you?"
" Why are you looking for me Clara?"
"I need your help," Clara said, her voice laced with desperation.
Nicholas, her loyal accomplice, raised an eyebrow. "What do you need, Clara?"
"Dig up dirt on Nicole Melbourne for me... Anything all," Clara ordered. "I want to bring her down."
Nicholas's expression turned skeptical. "Clara, this obsession will consume you."
Clara's gaze hardened. "I'll stop at nothing to destroy her, get Tyler Winslow and consume his company little by little."
"Okay but I'm not going down with you, little butterfly", answered Nicholas
As Nicholas departed to gather intel, Clara's thoughts turned to Tyler.
"You think you've won, Tyler?" Clara whispered to herself. "But I'll show you what it means to cross me my love."
Three weeks after the gala, the lovebirds had been so busy with their companies and families. Attending family gatherings and business meetings but Tyler and Nicole's relationship continued to blossom like flowers watered and kept under the sun to bloom.
"Nicole, I've been thinking," Tyler said, his eyes shining. "We should take our relationship public."
Nicole's smile was radiant. "I'm ready when you are love."
Their love was about to face its greatest challenge yet but they were ready to overcome any trials coming their way.
