Chapter 98 - Chapter 98: The Grilled Fish Debacle

"Over there, over there!" Satoru's pale blue eyes lit up slightly as he raised his bandaged arm and pointed urgently.

"Okay!" Naruto shouted enthusiastically, plunging back into the water. He swam toward the spot Satoru indicated.

"Great haul!" Naruto exclaimed as he emerged from the river, holding a bundle of fish.

"Fantastic work!" Satoru's white hair swayed in the breeze as he beamed. "Let's conquer the starry sky and sea before us!"

"Conquer the oceans!" Naruto echoed, thrusting his arms into the air, only to have the fish he was holding leap back into the water.

"Rule this school of fish!" he added dramatically.

"Hahaha!" Both burst into laughter, the air filled with their carefree joy.

Sasuke, watching the scene unfold, twitched with irritation. "It's just a lake," he muttered under his breath. "Where did the ocean come from? And Naruto, what are you even doing? You lost the fish you just caught."

"Hey, knucklehead," Sasuke said coldly, "your fish escaped. Also, we don't need that many fish."

He sighed, massaging his temples as the absurdity of the situation weighed on him.

Eventually, the group returned to the shore, settling around a crackling fire to grill the fish. The enticing aroma filled the air as their catch sizzled.

Sasuke glanced at the scrolls in their possession. "We have both the Heaven and Earth scrolls now," he said calmly. "The ones we got earlier from those Oto-nin complete our set."

"Yes!" Sakura chimed in. "Now all that's left is heading to the central tower."

"We might even be the first ones there!" Naruto grinned, scratching his head in excitement. "When Iruka-sensei sees this, he'll finally acknowledge my awesomeness!"

"Almost done!" Satoru murmured, his focus entirely on the grilling fish. His pale blue eyes glimmered with satisfaction as he admired his handiwork.

Out of nowhere, he pulled out a box of rock sugar. "Luckily, I prepared this," he muttered with a mischievous smile. Coating the fish in sugar with expert precision using his chakra, he created a shimmering glaze. The result was a batch of glistening, sweet-smelling grilled fish.

Naruto eyed the shiny fish suspiciously. "Why does this look so... weird?" he asked, narrowing his eyes. "It wasn't like this before."

Sasuke cast a sharp glance at Satoru. "What did you do to the fish?" he demanded.

Sakura frowned, a sense of déjà vu tugging at her memory. Where had she seen something like this before?

Satoru, entirely unbothered, took a bite of his creation with visible enjoyment. "Crunch," went the sugar-glazed fish. "Sweet and delicious!" he declared. "Maybe next time I'll double the sugar."

Naruto hesitated but eventually took a bite. Almost instantly, his face twisted. "What is this monstrosity?!" he spluttered. "It's so sweet I feel like I'm eating candy, not fish!"

Sasuke's reaction was no better. His stoic demeanor cracked as he grimaced. "This is… awful. What did you do?"

Sakura finally placed the sensation. "This is like rock candy skewers," she said, horrified. "But... with fish?! Who thought this was a good idea?!"

The trio groaned in unison, spitting out the overly sweet fish. Meanwhile, Satoru continued eating, oblivious to their suffering.

"Isn't it delicious?" Satoru asked innocently. "I even added extra sugar for you!"

"Mr. Bandage," Naruto said weakly, "please… no more talk about sugar. I can't take it anymore."

Satoru looked at them in confusion before finally lying down next to them. "Fine, I'll cooperate with your dramatic suffering," he said with a sigh.

The group lay there, letting the cool breeze wash over them, hoping to recover from the ordeal.

Suddenly, Satoru's eyes snapped open, sharp and alert. "Someone's coming," he murmured.

Moments later, hurried footsteps approached. A familiar voice broke through the silence. "Are you all right?" Kabuto asked, concern etched on his face.

The group stirred, weary but on guard.

Elsewhere, in Konoha Village

Mitarashi Anko sat in a dimly lit office, her expression serious. "The situation is grim, but the exam must continue," she said decisively.

"What's going on?" one of the dark-cloaked staff members asked.

Before Anko could respond, the office door creaked open. A ninja entered, holding a videotape. "You need to see this," he said, inserting the tape into a machine.

The footage revealed Shiro and Hozuki in action during the second exam. Their speed and precision left the room in stunned silence.

"This was recorded an hour and thirty-seven minutes into the exam," the ninja explained. "They reached the central tower in just 97 minutes—breaking the previous record of four hours."

The room buzzed with disbelief. "Their level isn't just above average," Anko muttered. "It's extraordinary."

The ninja rewound the footage and paused on the duo's image. "They crossed 10 kilometers of treacherous terrain—poisonous insects, wild beasts—and emerged completely unscathed."

The room fell silent. Not even a speck of dirt marred their uniforms.

"Which village are they from?" someone finally asked, breaking the silence. "And how are they this strong?"
