The following morning the Ji Xian and Yu Fusheng met coincidentally in the elevator. They were the only ones there. The atmosphere was intense and awkward. Ji Xian stole glances of him from the corner of her eyes. That went on for a week; Ji Xian creating coincidences behind the scenes just to earn a little of his attention. To her he was still an unsolved mystery.
On one Friday night,she used her friend Su Mei who was having her birthday that day to invite Team A to the party they had organized at the usual restaurant. Out of respect,Yu Fusheng showed up with his subordinates. Ji Xian chose a seat where she would be able to watch Yu Fusheng's behaviours without arousing suspicion.
"Happy birthday to you....,"Ling Yue started presenting the cake before Su Mei and the others joined her in singing the birthday song.
Everything about Ji Xian's target seemed normal till the guy refused to drink. Instead he ordered a coke.
"Mister Yu,you never drink alcohol?" Su Mei asked on behalf of the others.
"Something like that,"he replied with a subtle smile. Even his subordinates confirmed he couldn't drink alcohol but as for the reason why they had no idea because he didn't reveal it to them and they dared not ask him.
After what seemed like an eternity,Ji Xian released the breath she had been holding immediately she stepped out of the restaurant. Yu Fusheng's jokes and subtle smiles had stolen oxygen from her the whole night. She didn't know why she couldn't resist watching him. Her hand clutched her heart to calm her heart which was pounding hard against her chest. They all gathered outside the restaurant and left in pairs,trios while others solo.
While she was walking away from the restaurant,she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure. From his posture and walking style and given that she had been stalking the same man for weeks,she knew exactly who it was. Out of curiosity she decided to follow him and maybe pretend their homes were in the same direction. She tailed him even when the man diverted into a dark alley ahead. She suddenly stopped in her tracks when she recalled her brother's warning not to walk in isolated places. She shrugged off the thought convincing herself if she landed in trouble Yu Fusheng would definitely save her. She was shocked when she saw him entering a club.
' Didn't he say he doesn't drink? What is he doing here? Is he meeting someone?' She wondered.
She was an adult so accessing the club was an easy task. The club was filled with howls of half naked people swinging their bodies to the rhythm on the dancefloor. She took a while to adjust to the flashy neon lights. She had never been in such a place before. Even in college when her friends went to clubs to have fun,she went to karaoke bars where they were less crazy people.
Her eyes searched around and she spotted Yu Fusheng walking upstairs. She didn't know why she was following him but she still did. Yu Fusheng entered an upstairs VIP room. Ji Xian could only watch from a distance. An idea suddenly popped in her head and she borrowed an attire to blend in with the place. She impersonated one of the female dancers there and stumbled upon one of the dancers who happened to be interested to help her explore the place when she claimed she was a newly hired dancer.
They went together to an underground casino where rich men betted on different kinds of things including life. Ji Xian was more than shocked when she saw Yu Fusheng seated in the VIP area interacting with the others freely like they were friends. When her eyes and ears had gathered enough evidence,she decided to leave but a security warning was announced that an unauthorized person had infiltrated the place.
The guards began verifying the identities of the guests and unfortunately,Ji Xian was discovered as the intruder. Yu Fusheng could not believe his eyes.
"Just kill her,"a young man standing beside Yu Fusheng ordered.
Yu Fusheng knew he was screwed because she would definitely reveal his dark secrets but then he didn't want her to die.
"I'll deal with her,"Yu Fusheng suddenly said.
He and the young man beside him left the casino dragging Ji Xian with them. They made her unconscious and stuffed her in the back seat of the car and drove away.
"ShengSheng ,do you know her?"the young man asked curiously.
"She's my colleague."
"You could have just let them kill her. Why bother to rescue her when you know you're at risk of being exposed?"
"I want answers from her,"Yu Fusheng replied subtly.
"Answers to what?"
"She has been stalking me for a while. I'm curious to know why,"he revealed with a sly smile
"You knew she was tailing you?"
"Yes but I didn't know she would go to that extent."
"Isn't she an ordinary employee? Why would she follow you?"
"I'm curious as well."
"So you have been pretending you didn't know she was stalking you?"
"Exactly,"Yu Fusheng smirked proudly.
Yu Fusheng parked the car and carried the unconscious Ji Xian inside. They took the elevator and reached the top most floor where Yu Fusheng and Li Long the young man beside him lived in a luxurious penthouse.
"What do we do if someone comes to look for her?" Li Long questioned.
"Aren't you an expert at faking deaths?"Yu Fusheng questioned his friend in a provocative manner.
"I'll get it done,"Li Long confirmed.
Ji Xian woke up to the bright light illuminating her room. The bed she was lying on was very comfortable but the surroundings didn't seem familiar to her. She tried getting up but she couldn't because her hands were cuffed and bound to the headboard of the bed.
"Where am I?"She yelled loud enough to attract the attention of her abductor and it worked because Yu Fusheng walked into the room a few minutes later. He was wearing grey sweatpants while the upper part of his body was naked displaying his Pixie tattoo fully.
"Morning,"he said with a mischievous smile.
"Why did you capture me?"
"Well you were in a place you're not supposed to be. You should thank me otherwise you would be dead by now. Oh I brought you something."
Just then Ji Xian noticed the iPad Yu Fusheng was holding. He placed it in front of her. They were the news headlines showing she had died in a tragic accident and her body as well as the taxi driver's had been burnt beyond recognition. Remains of her work ID had been found at the site.
"Don't you think it's some amazing news?" he smirked." I noticed you've been curious about me for a while stalking me. Don't you know curiosity killed the cat?I'm sure your detective brother will not let it go but the accident was natural so there's no need to investigate."
Ji Xian was shocked to hear him mention her brother but she composed herself.
"That's even better. I've been wanting to disappear from this world for a while so thanks to you I've been able to achieve that,"she retaliated with a smug expression.
"Why were you stalking me? Are you planning to snitch on me to your brother?"
"I was bored,"she replied with attitude.
Her life had been pretty boring and she wanted to spice it up by distracting herself.
"Well I'm sure you've been dying to find out a few things about me. What do you want to know? Ask and I will tell you."
"Didn't you say curiosity killed the cat? I'm not curious anymore."
"So you don't want to die anymore?"He teased her and laughed mockingly.
Tears welled up her eyes. She couldn't believe that the colleague many had idolized turned out to be very cruel and heartless.
"Before you kill me can you let me write a will to my family?" She pleaded.
"Weren't you acting bold a minute ago? In their eyes you're already dead so you had no time to write the fucking will,"he roared.
"Yu Fusheng you're not a human!"She yelled.
"Let me give you a tip and a warning. I won't let you die anytime soon. I will make you wish you had not poked your nose in my business. You think I didn't see you staring at my tattoo back at the toilet?"He said and walked out of the room.
