Chapter 49 - Chapter 48: The Shadow of the Founder

The room shook again, more violently this time, as the dark figure took a step forward. The walls trembled under the weight of its presence, as if the very air around them was thick with dread. Jin's heart pounded in his chest, but his resolve remained unshaken.

The creature—if it could even be called that—was an embodiment of darkness, its body shifting like smoke, ever-changing. Its eyes, two blazing orbs of malevolent energy, focused on Jin, as though it could see into his very soul.

Kaelros, his celestial aura flaring, stepped protectively in front of Jin. "Whatever this is, it's not natural. Be ready for anything."

Jin nodded, gripping his weapon tightly. "We have no choice but to fight. We need that information, no matter what."

The figure's voice, now a hiss in their minds, echoed. "You dare to defy the will of the Founder? You will be erased, just like all those who came before you."

The air grew colder, the temperature dropping to freezing levels. The shadows deepened, swirling around them, feeding on their fears. Jin could feel the oppressive weight of its power pressing down on him.

Lysander's hand twitched toward his blade, his eyes narrowing. "It's an illusion, a manifestation of the Founder's power. We can destroy it if we focus."

Jin didn't need more words. His mind sharpened, focusing all his energy into his weapon. The Abyssal energy within him stirred, like a beast awakening from slumber. With a roar, he launched himself toward the figure, his weapon crackling with the dark energy of the Abyss.

But the shadow simply laughed—a low, guttural sound that sent chills down Jin's spine. The figure raised its hand, and with a single motion, the room seemed to warp, the walls bending and twisting as though reality itself was being distorted.

Jin barely managed to twist out of the way as the air itself became a blade, slicing through the space where he had been standing just moments before. The shadow was fast, almost faster than Jin's eyes could track.

"We need to fight back together!" Kaelros shouted, his celestial energy expanding. He lifted his hand, summoning a barrage of ethereal bolts, each one crackling with divine power. They hit the shadow, but the creature merely absorbed the energy, the blasts vanishing into its shifting form.

"It's too powerful," Kaelros grunted. "We can't overwhelm it with just brute force."

Lysander's eyes flickered with understanding. "We're not meant to defeat it physically. It's tied to the Founder's rituals. We need to disrupt its source."

Jin's mind raced. "The tablet! The information we uncovered—it must be connected. The shadow is feeding off the Founder's power. If we destroy its link, we can defeat it."

"Agreed," Kaelros said. "But we'll need to hold it off long enough for you to do what you need to do."

Jin nodded, his resolve firming. "Then let's buy some time."

The team sprang into action, fighting the shadow with all their might. Lysander moved like a blur, his blade slashing through the darkness, trying to find a weak point. Kaelros's celestial energy blasted through the air, weaving around the shadow's form, keeping it at bay.

Meanwhile, Jin ran toward the stone tablet, his fingers brushing against the ancient symbols as he focused on the connection between the shadow and the Founder. He could feel it now—an ancient bond, like a thread of dark energy that tied the two together. It was fragile, but the longer they allowed the shadow to exist, the stronger the bond would become.

With a deep breath, Jin closed his eyes, reaching out with his mind. He felt the Abyssal energy within him surge, amplifying his senses, allowing him to feel the very essence of the ritual. The shadow was not an independent entity; it was merely a projection of the Founder's will, a will that sought to manipulate the very forces of the universe.

Jin's focus tightened. With a thought, he summoned his own energy, the Abyssal power he had learned to wield, and poured it into the tablet. The symbols on the stone began to glow, their light pulsing with an intensity that pushed back the darkness in the room.

The shadow shrieked, its form flickering as if it were losing cohesion. "No! You cannot undo what has already begun!" it hissed, its voice now filled with desperation.

But Jin did not relent. He pressed harder, his mind pushing against the ancient bond. The Abyssal energy roared within him, resonating with the ritual that had tied the Founder to the very fabric of the realms.

The shadows writhed in pain, the room shaking violently as the dark presence tried to fight back. Kaelros and Lysander kept up their relentless assault, distracting the shadow long enough for Jin to focus.

And then, with a deafening crack, the bond between the Founder and the shadow snapped.

The room fell silent, and for a moment, Jin thought the battle was over. But then, the shadow collapsed in on itself, imploding like a black hole, its form disintegrating into nothingness. The oppressive weight in the room lifted, and the freezing cold receded, leaving them gasping for air.

"We did it…" Kaelros panted, his hand dropping to his side.

Jin's chest heaved as he lowered his weapon. "For now. But we've only just begun."

Lysander nodded grimly. "The Founder is still out there, and we've barely scratched the surface of his plans. We need to keep moving."

Jin's eyes hardened with determination. "We will. We'll stop him, no matter the cost."

The Calm Before the Storm

Back at their base, the team gathered around, each of them processing the events of the past few hours. They had destroyed one of the Founder's most dangerous weapons, but it was clear now that the true battle was still ahead of them.

Ardan, standing at the front, spoke first. "The Founder is a force unlike anything you've ever encountered. You've only just disrupted one of his pawns. But this is a victory, no matter how small. You've proven that you can stand against the darkness."

Singh and Chris nodded in agreement, though their expressions were somber. "We've seen what the Founder is capable of," Singh said. "But we've also seen the strength within your team. Together, you can do what others can't."

Jin looked at each member of his team, their faces tired but resolute. "This isn't just about taking down an organization anymore. We're fighting for the fate of the realms. The Founder wants to merge them—Celestial and Abyssal—and if he succeeds, there will be no stopping him."

Kaelros stepped forward, his eyes steady. "Then we fight. Together."

Jin nodded, a fire igniting in his chest. "We fight until the end. For the realms. For everyone."

The calm before the storm was over. The next phase of their battle was about to begin, and the stakes had never been higher.
