By the time the two men were disarmed and brought before Nie Yun, they had adopted a submissive demeanor, their heads bowed in deference.
"You two certainly know how to read the room. I expected you might put up a fight," Nie Yun said, reclining in the captain's chair with one leg crossed over the other, propping his chin on his hand, a wry smile playing on his lips as he regarded them.
The two men silently cursed; who wouldn't be cowed with so many guns aimed at them?
Surrounding the captain's quarters, dozens of AK-47s were trained on them, and even the ceiling boasted a dozen rocket launchers.
From that moment on, they vowed to become phobic of densely packed environments!
"This… this big brother is joking! How could we dare? We merely stumbled into your territory by accident, without any intention to offend! Could you perhaps let us go, considering we share the same humanity?" the older one ventured cautiously.
"Oh? How can you be so sure that I… am human?" Nie Yun replied, a smirk curving his lips as he lowered his head. The two men could not see his expression, but the weight of his words sent shivers down their spines.
Is this guy really not human? Could he truly be an alien?!
"Aliens?!" the third brother exclaimed in shock.
"Ha ha!" Nie Yun did not directly respond but chuckled softly. With a snap of his fingers, all the weapons in the room slowly retracted into the walls, vanishing from sight.
"Gulp!" The two men stared in disbelief as they processed this incomprehensible scene, swallowing hard.
Could any Earthling perform such a feat? This guy is definitely an alien!
"Now, tell me, how did you end up on my island? Remember, you have only one chance to speak the truth. If you dare to lie, my garden is in need of a little fertilizer."
The two men were wholly engulfed in their fear of a potential alien encounter, too terrified to fabricate any stories.
As for the fact that this individual resembled a human, lacking horns or a tail—that was a trivial detail!
In an instant, they recounted their misfortunes with meticulous detail, describing how they had drifted to this place, even divulging their childhood secrets about peeking at the neighbor's widow while she bathed.
After listening, Nie Yun stroked his chin, contemplating how best to deal with these two.
The brothers watched him in silence, anxiously awaiting their fate, contemplating whether to comply if he decided to slice them open or to resist a little before being cut.
That was a dilemma…
"Would you… be interested in working for me?" Nie Yun suddenly inquired.
What? Work for an alien?
This question left the two men utterly stunned, wondering if the script could indeed take such a turn.
"Uh… what did you say?" the older one asked, incredulous as if he hadn't heard correctly.
"Oh, so you're not interested? Very well," Nie Yun said, rising as if to leave.
"Wait! We are willing! We're eager!" they quickly exclaimed.
Declining was not an option, especially seeing the weapons reappear around them!
"Why didn't you say so earlier? However, my company is quite formal, and we require interviews for recruitment. Do you have your resumes with you?"
"What? A company? Recruitment? Well… we didn't bring our resumes." The two were on the verge of tears; how could someone like them possibly need a resume?
"Didn't bring them? People these days are so careless. Fine, let's simplify the process. You have a bachelor's degree, right?"
"Yes, yes! I have a master's degree!" the older one suddenly thought he might be in the wrong place. Shouldn't he change his attire? Perhaps a tie would be appropriate?
"Oh, a graduate! Which school did you attend?" Nie Yun inquired, genuinely surprised.
"Qinghua University!" the older brother declared proudly.
"Hmm?" "Hmm?" came the astonished responses from both Nie Yun and the third brother.
"Older brother, you've never mentioned this experience before!" the third brother exclaimed in disbelief.
"Cough! It's all ancient history. When I graduated, I was young and fearless, embarking on a project to start my own business, but I ended up buried in debt. It got worse from there, and I've been too ashamed to admit I graduated from Qinghua!"
"Oh!" the two nodded in understanding.
"So, you're actually a top student! My apologies! However, I don't hire from 985 universities; I only recruit from 211!"
"Uh…" The older brother felt bewildered. What were these hiring criteria?
He couldn't shake the feeling that this "alien" was not being very friendly.
"So, I only have a position for a temporary worker available. Are you interested?" Nie Yun asked nonchalantly, casting a sidelong glance at him.
Top students? He found them the most annoying!
"Yes, yes!" the older brother replied eagerly. If there were no positions for temporary workers, they would end up as fertilizer; only a fool would turn down such an offer!
"And you?" Nie Yun turned his gaze to the third brother.
"As for me? I only attended two years of high school. I've never been very bright and dropped out before finishing. People say I'm just a strong fool, haha!" the third brother said, scratching the back of his head, slightly embarrassed.
"Hey, don't underestimate yourself. Look at so-and-so; didn't he graduate from elementary school and still achieve great success? I see potential in you, young man! From this moment on, you are a formal employee!"
So-and-so? Who is that?
The older brother felt a surge of blood rush to his head at this blatant favoritism. He regretted ever attending Qinghua; he should have just gone to a vocational school!
This was a classic case of choice being more important than effort!
"Cough! What you're saying is truly commendable! I couldn't agree more! What does education matter?
To be honest, I only obtained my diploma through family connections! I was always a repeat student, never earning a single merit badge in elementary school, and it took me eight attempts to pass the English Level 4 exam. How embarrassing!" the older brother confessed, realizing it was too late for regrets.
"Oh, I see! That's no problem; these are minor issues. What truly matters is having talent! I see great potential in you!
As such, I've reconsidered regarding the 985 issue. I won't discriminate too harshly this time; I'll make an exception and hire you as a formal employee with benefits!"
Nie Yun's expression softened, and he dropped the sarcasm, treating him with genuine warmth.
"Indeed, you are absolutely right! Thank you! Thank you so much!" the older brother exclaimed, tears of gratitude streaming down his face.
Finally, he had achieved political correctness!
Indeed, no matter where one goes, choosing sides is paramount!
In his excitement, the older brother's face flushed, and then, quite suddenly, he rolled his eyes and fainted!
"What… he became so overwhelmed?" Nie Yun was initially taken aback, then genuinely moved.
"No, I believe he merely fainted from hunger," the third brother pondered innocently.
"Uh…"
