The small light of dawn escaped through the thick forest, giving light to the path ahead as Aveline led the group further inside into rival pack territory. The rogue elder had provided them with the location, an expected council stronghold hidden within large mountains as cover. But tension among their mixed crew was rising with every step.
Rogues whispered among themselves, looking suspiciously at the pack members who had joined their mission. The pack wolves, in turn, held on tightly to their weapons, their cautiousness was visible.
Gabriel noticed the growing division within the ranks and quickened his pace to walk alongside Aveline. "We need to address this," he said quietly.
"I know," she replied, her voice heavy. "But how? Half of them don't trust the other half. If I try to involve myself in it, it'll only make things worse."
