Chapter 7 - Enemy Empires & The Grey Sentinel

With the emergence of this pillar of light, the Holy Church in the Capitol of Roselynn dispatched several of their finest Knights, known as the Holy Blades of God, to investigate Lorelei Village. Of the lands surrounding, the Holy Kingdom of Rosenthorn wasn't one any kingdom wished to war with. The Holy Knights that attacked Lorelei were from the Saint's Theocracy of Malic. It was on the opposite side of this unclaimed region which Lorelei. However, nobody had clued in the Village of Lorelei and their newly found "Grey Sentinel" that on that day, both the Tyrant King of the Theocracy and the Holy Blades of Rosenthorn would convert upon their village at the same time... and yet, the favor was returned in the form of nobody clued either faction in on the fact that there was an entity far more formidable than either side had ever encountered defending the village.

Grey ascended into the sky above the village as the two factions entered striking distance. "Now!", started Grey, "Unleash my arsenal... from this power of mine, Annals Incarnate, I call upon the Nightstar of Star and Striped Liberty Union... DEFEND THIS VILLAGE THROUGH ME!" However, before the ability could manifest, both factions noticed each other and raced to intercept the other. Grey grinned, "Henry, Earhart, Daly, Kier... Ready up, let's go say hello."

As Blades and Templars clashed swords and armor, Grey slammed into the dirt in the dead center of them. "Greetings... The Liberty Union joins the fray..." With that, voodoo chains roped the groups together and flung them away from village walls. Without hesitation, one of the Holy Blades lunged into the sky unveiling angelic wings of pure holy energy. However, Grey lowered shoulder-mounted energy cannons at her from above her, blasting her back down into the squabble of chaos. As the blade with angelic wings sat up, she watched as Grey eviscerated a swath of Templars as if they were game being hunted.

"Dear gods... this is... it's a slaughter... and we're the animals being lead to die." Her voice trembled. However, Grey wasn't quite done terrifying them just yet. As the Tyrant King watched from his steed away from the battlefield, Grey called upon John Henry's strength and the power of the SR-71 Blackbird. With him airborne, he shot straight for the tyrant king. As the King and his men watched this unknown enemy appear above the tree line, Grey's glowing eyes pierced their souls, and then he spoke. "Heemeyer... Henry... Patton... LIBERTY RAGE!"

However, before Grey could unleash his strength, the once gentle breeze suddenly exploded with a massive updraft that tossed everyone airborne. Grey, also caught up in the enormous updraft, felt the hairs stand up across his body. The updraft was extremely warm, with the surrounding air violently cold. With the sudden realization of something he was all too familiar with, Grey fired the twin Pratt & Whitney engines on his back at their maximum output with only one thought on his mind... "This... this is a tornado."

Shiva stood on the village wall, but her hand was on the shoulder of the elven servant who had been cradling Grey's unconscious head in the last fight. His once hazel eyes were now lightning blue, his hand outstretched, his gaze affixed on Grey, who was seemingly standing still.

"Crap... Miniaturizing the 71's engines did cost me something... airspeed." Grey was suspended midflight by the growing tornado's pull. As the Goddess's energy poured into the elf, Grey poured his strength into the little engines but wasn't going anywhere. That's when Stagolee appeared next to him. "What's say you we..." Stagolee's vestige vanished as the Tornado engulfed Grey.

"I'm sorry... I..." started the elf, tears rolling down his face. However, the Priestess and Jasper called to him. "GREY IS FINE! LOOK!" The auburn-haired knight pointed to Grey, his mask folded back with a grand smile across his face. "NUCLEAR KEROSENE!" Yelled Grey as the sky exploded ending the battle and clearing the sky. As the others looked away from Grey, the Tyrant King as forces began toward the storm-battered Holy Blades.

"Grey!" Called out the Priestess, "Those are the Holy Blades of Rosenthorn! Help them!" The sound of snapping steel broke her concentration as Grey began racing to intercept them. He called out as he ran, "The Brothers Wright!" As he ran, the former servant, known as Styx, watched this crazy and odd human jump a short distance in the air and an odd machine appeared around him. "C'mon Orville and Wilbur... Let's show this world what you two did!" The odd-looking machine hopped up and down off the ground.

The villagers watched as Grey, struggling to control this machine, did the seemingly impossible without using magic... achieve flight. Grey gritted his teeth as the Wright Flyer barreled towards the Holy Blades just a few feet off of the ground. As Grey flew past the King's forces he locked his tri-colored eyes on the blades. "JUMP ON!" He yelled as they began chasing after him. Styx and the Priestess watched as the Holy Blades hopped on the first flying machine... that wasn't designed to carry more than two people uncomfortably. With a light updraft from Styx, the historical relic left the King and his forces in the dust of the ground and soared into the air. As the flying machine approached the village, Grey had the others jump off as he made a right turn towards the King's forces.

"Sire... that thing... it's heading right for us!" Grey's smile had become a scowl as the Wright Flyer dove at them. Men and horses scattered as the roar of the twin bicycle motor engines cut just a few feet above them. "RETREAT! ALL FULL RETREAT!" Yelled the King as he rode away from the battlefield. However, as they retreated, the Wright Flyer glided down safely and landed just outside Lorelei Village. The villagers cheered and smiled as Grey stood up and bowed. Kassandra leaned against the gates of the village shaking her head.

"My, my, Goddess. He's quite the handful, isn't he?" Shiva chuckled at Kassandra's remark. "Yes, that he is. It's more than that though... his heart is full of innovation and courage. Despite him being almost out of energy, he doesn't show it. Just take a look."

Styx rushed over and hugged him. "I'm glad you're safe." Grey looked down confused. "I was only able to rescue them thanks to that updraft you tossed me. Nice work!" Grey placed his hand on Styx's shoulder and made his way over to the Blades. "You have the Priestess to thank. For now, let's head into the village and see if can't make heads or tails of this situation. Shall we?"
