Chapter 1 - crazed

crazy is what Linus is, whenever Claire has to do something for him. Or go see him, she instantly wants to leave her job. But, she loves helping people, why let one person change your mind on something?

"Claire! Linus needs his lunch and meds, can you do it? The crazy son of a bitch keeps biting everyone. Think you can calm him down?" Ah, here we go again, Linus and Claire barely know each other, yet the man's completely obsessed with her.

The thing that scares Claire is not that he's crazy, well that too... but he's also crazy good-looking! Sure he has odd habits and is depressed so he sometimes struggles on hygiene but aside from that any girl will be drooling over him. Claire doesn't see his obsession as that serious, but everyone else does, and the last thing you want to do is piss a bunch of girls off, crazy girls. A nurse a while back was attacked and set on fire by a couple of girls because this one handsome looking boy was secretly in love with the nurse, though that's only a myth really, but being in a mental hospital it's most definitely possible.

Therefore, Claire hates it. Walking down the hall on the way to Linus's room, the ladies know where she's going, it's like they're about to jump out at her. The next thing they'll be doing is foaming at the mouth.

Take a deep breath Claire. It's okay, avoid eye contact. Do everything you can to avoid him. "I knew you couldn't keep away, I'm just too irresistible ain't I?" He said, chuckling in a low raspy voice while maintaining a sharp yet gentle eye contact with her. "Maybe if you'd stop biting the nurses over a pill it wouldn't be like this." Claire said in a slightly annoyed tone, sighing as she slipped the pill into his mouth. "But having another woman feeding me is unfaithful right?" He said as his smile faded when Claire ignored his words and left the room.

"Lost your mind yet?" A brunette haired woman would say walking up to Claire. "Ah, Lydia, yes actually. I'm convinced dealing with this man is impossible." Claire said, sighing and crouching down against the wall holding her forehead. "I get it, he's trouble with a charm type. I wish I could help you but all I can say is goodluck." Lydia said, patting her back then walking down a hall, turning the corner. "Thanks…" Claire said, sighing, picking herself back up and pretending as if nothing happened.

"Listen, Linus, this would be really easy for the both of us if you could just listen to all the other nurses." Claire said, walking back into his room. "I don't want all those other women taking care of me, besides, only you know how to treat me right." Linus said, staring lovingly at her. "Maybe so but you know I won't be here forever, you need to find peace in something else." She said, shutting the curtains closed. "Go to bed, and without issues this time." She snarled, walking out of his room. Quietly shutting the door, Claire headed off to her own room.

"So…How was dealing with Linus?" Lydia whispered, flipping her notebook to the next page. "Tiring as usual, he says that I'm the only one who can 'deal with him'." Claire rolled her eyes, switching into her pajama shirt. "Oh wow, well as I said, have fun with that." Lydia sighed as she switched off her bedside table lamp. "Thanks…" Claire huffed climbing into her bed to get her good night's rest.

The next morning Claire had gotten up and into her uniform when she looked into the dorm bathroom mirror, of course. Once again, painted on the glass, were harsh words directed towards Claire. They do this every morning, to develop a better understanding, the dorms of staff and patients are connected. This makes the ability of a patient getting into the staff area which is highly dangerous but of course the higher ups don't see an issue with it however, this area is only accessible to partially stable patients, meaning they have made it through a week or more of avoiding to harm themselves or anyone else in anyway, granting them permission to adventure the place as they please.

"I can't believe this Lydia, they do this shit everyday!" Claire huffed, adding a slight stomp into her step. "And for what? All because some boy likes me that I just happen to not like back?! It feels like everyday I'm here I'm given a death sentence just to be tried again." Claire said, following after Lydia. "Yeah well, this is kind of what you signed up for." Lydia sighed, slipping a syringe with a large needle into a small bottle of serotonin. "Signed up? Please, I came here partially to help people but the other reason was me being forced into it. If this horrible place didn't have some crazy camp or whatever you wanna call it, where they send off "misbehaving kids" here to learn how to be better or get them out of that life by fear." Claire exclaimed, looking up at Lydia with watery eyes.

"Listen, Claire, I care for you, I really do, what I can't do is just get you out of here. You're right, this place is a trap, but how many people do you think wanna work in a mental hospital? That's why they trap people here, to stock up on staff." Lydia sighed. "It's a messed up way, but sometimes you just do what you're told." Lydia said, leaving the room, syringe in hand.

"Wow, isn't that some fun." Claire jumped back slightly hearing some clapping from the dimly lit doorway. "Who would've known a little princess with a luxury life had a little sadness to her?" Claire peered into the doorway, scrunching her eyes in hopes of getting a better view. "Linus…?...How did you get here? This is for staff only." Claire said in a strict tone, yet behind you could hear her slightly shift with fear. "No, this is for staff AND partially mentally stable patients." Linus smirked, switching on the light and moving over to her. "You're not partially mentally stable though." Claire said, paralyzed with disbelief.

Linus' smirk only grew. "Oh but I am, see I've been working on being good. That way me and you can actually talk, you know, hand in hand instead of syringe to chain. Being locked up all that time made me realize that I can't be with you if I don't change." Linus winked, grabbing her hand, holding it close.

Linus' hand was surprisingly warm, and for once he smelled like a rich cologne instead of the cigarettes he'd sneak in. "You…smell good…" Claire moved a bit closer to him wafting the smell to her nose. "I knew you'd like it, spent all day asking around about what you liked." Claire's eyes widened at that.

It surprised Claire, has Linus really changed? And was it really just for her? As if she were the grinch, her heart shifted and beated faster for him. "Yeah right, as if a little cologne could fix me and you." Claire huffed, crossing her arms and turning away quickly to hide the blush that graced her cheeks. "Awwww, look at you, finally opening up to me?" Linus lightly pinched Claire's cheek playfully while Claire bit her tongue.
