Chapter 71 - Chapter 71) Buddhist monk from famous temple.

Just then the door of the study opened.;

"Miss, I heard some interesting news from the maids." Yang Xumei exclaimed in her loud and exciting voice.

The rhythmic sound her ink stick was making when it circled inside the inkstone suddenly stopped.... because it broke.

Gu Yanyan closed her eyes, hiding her frustration.

Yang Xumei also realized her mistake.

"Umm.. that... I.. ah!" Yang Xumei immediately plopped to her knees in front of little Yanyan, "I'm sorry miss. I didn't mean it. I was just too excited." Yang Xumei immediately asked for forgiveness.

Hearing her Xumei's voice laced with distress, Gu Yanyan could only take a deep breath to calm her frustration and opened her eyes and gave a side eye to Yang Xumei who was still on the ground.

She couldn't help but twitch her lips at her friend's antics.

"Stand up. Don't kneel there; you'll catch a cold."

"Thank you miss. I know you love me the most and can't see me suffering." Yang Xumei didn't hesitate and immediately stood up. All the guilt she had been feeling a moment ago was thrown outside of the window.

Grinning she briskly moved beside Gu Yanyan and lowered her body to match Gu Yanyan's height as she again started telling her the exciting news she came with.

"Ah! Don't worry about the single-ink stick, miss; I'll ask Nanny Jin to give you another. Now, you should hear the interesting news I brought with me." Yang Xumei wiggled her brows as she said this, her eyes sparkling with happiness.

Seeing her behaving like this, Gu also forgot about the little incident that happened earlier and put her little hand under her chin as she supported her little head and turned it towards Yang Xumei, giving her the attention she needed to continue her story;

"So what is the exciting news that you brought with you?" Gu Yanyan raised her brows as she asked Yang Xumei, her eyes filled with amusement and her voice dripping with sarcasm, which Yang Xumei gladly ignored and smiled at Gu Yanyan, showing her white pearly teeth.

"Ah! Yes, exciting news..." Yang Xumei exclaimed. "That... it's about your stepmother."

"And what did my 'stepmother' do?" Gu Yanyan intentionally dragged the word 'stepmother' and urged Yang Xumei to continue.

"Oh! Nothing big." Yang Xumei chuckled. Gu Yanyan was just about to roll her eyes when Yang Xumei again spoke; "She just brought a monk from a famous temple to find an evil spirit inside Gu Residence." Yang Xumei burst into laughter as she said it.

"An evil spirit?" Gu Yanyan raised her brows, her little sleeping phoenix-shaped eyes filled with curiosity and amusement.

"Yes, an evil spirit who swallowed all the wealth from the Gu Residence overnight." Yang Xumei clutched her belly in laughter as she told Gu Yanyan what she heard from the other maids when she was coming from outside.

"The other maid said there was an evil spirit in the Gu Residence who swallowed all the wealth of Gu Residence, and it was the one who was responsible for the robbery that night three months ago."

After hearing Yang Xumei about the monk and evil spirit and that the monk was specially brought by Madam Yun, an evil smirk appeared in Gu Yanyan's eyes as she let out a cold chuckle.

She straightened her back and looked outside; her cold gaze directly went towards the Tingsong Courtyard.

"Even in such circumstances, she couldn't sit still and found a way to get rid of little obstacles in her way which reminded her how she become the second Madam of Gu family." Gu Yanyan coldly sneered, drew back her gaze, and looked at Yang Xumei.

"OK, Xumei, the time we were waiting for all this while, has finally come. Now, you can start packing to leave the Gu Residence." She chuckled and continued, "We have only left only few days in this Gu Residence before they will send us out of the Gu residence; no, maybe they will help us to leave the Capital city too."

"Ah!" Not understanding her miss' words, Yang Xumei could only stare at Gu Yanyan Dumbfounded.

Seeing her mouth open and eyes widened and looking at her stupefied, Gu Yanyan couldn't help but reach out to flick her fingers on Yang Xumei's forehead.

"Ah!" Yang Xumei cried in pain and massaged her forehead to soothe it.

"What are you doing, miss? Why are you beating me?" Yang Xumei pouted as she threw an accusing look at Gu Yanyan.

"Because you deserve it." Gu Yanyan brutally replied.

"Hah?"

Not explaining herself more, Gu Yanyan went back to prepare her ink again and started practising her calligraphy. She had only a few days left in the Gu Residence.

She didn't know where they would send her after the drama Madam Yun had orchestrated ended. But she knew that she would have to spend quite some time blending into the new environment.

Be it the place where Gu's family members would send her or the new place she would find for herself and her Xumei.

Inside An Shui Hall;

Except for the children in the house, everyone in the Gu family was present inside the An Shui hall waiting for the message of the arrival of the Buddhist monk from the famous Buddhist temple that Madam Yun had invited to find the cause of the robbery from three month ago and the mastermind behind it too, if possible.

While everyone was lost with their own thoughts, a maid servant entered the hall with the message; "Old Madam, Masters, Madams, the distinguished guests has already entered the street and would arrive at Gu Residence in less than ten minutes." The maid servant delivered the message and stepped back after getting response from Old Madam Gu.

"You may go, we're coming." Old Madam Gu waved her hand and let the maid servant go.

"Mother let's go to the door to welcome the distinguished monk." Madam Yun stood up and excitedly suggested old Madam Gu.

Old Madam Gu nodded and stood up.

As she walked towards the side door in the east side of the Residence, other Gu family members also followed her from behind to welcome the famous Buddhist monk.
