Chapter 1 - Dream

Dreams were all I ever had. Living in a contemporary city filled with hopes and contemplations made me sick. There was something I could not comprehend, the fact that I had to dream about me in an outlandish world. The dream always repeated itself without a proper closure and I got used to it. Of course I would get used to it, I had been having those dreams since I was three. For nineteen years, I had several incomparable  dreams and no one seemed astonished because everybody believed that it was part of me.

It was all about me being a commoner. A commoner is an ordinary person right? But in the dream, being a commoner is something no one ever prayed to dream about. Shatters which could have been apparent to a commoner, were discernable. People swarm in like insects just to get supper. Living in a town where eating four times a day, lives were endangered. In the whole dream, it was a truth universally acknowledged, that married couples unless they are financially unstable, should give birth. The law stated that "anyone who could not afford  to eat four times a day, shall be killed and should be referred to as 'commoner'". But, what made a man who was not financially stable, but had to eat four times a day? What made a man who had to look up to the sky praying for bread? It was really hectic, women moving all round to gather stones, children running helter and skelter to climb trees for fruits, commoners being killed for nothing, oh! Probably because of their fate?

"Who art thou?" He said. His voice was like melted chocolate. My back being  turned against him, I was frightened to show him my face. If he was a royal, I would die, because I was a commoner, in fact — a vagrant. Apparently in the dream, I thought that was my last day on earth. I was speechless, I could not say I was a commoner and I could not mention that I was not.

"Answer  me! Who art thou?" He asked again, this time—shouting. The second time made me over frightened. I knew it was rude of me to have gone to the palace. But I had no choice. I turned to face him. ' I'm dead. ' I thought. I did not make mention of anything neither did I take my eyes away from him. He was rugged. Normally, handsome men are described to be tall. But, he was not tall enough, his face glowed like milk like he was a royal. His eyes said another thing entirely, his eyes were grumpy and callous. To think of it, only a dumbass would not consider himself dead at that moment.

"Your clothes are made of silk, but only those whose dress are made of gold are considered to enter the palace. With what right do you have to have the royal seal?" He asked in a cool voice. I was unprepared for that question, I had to make up a lie.

"I was sent by one of the Crown Prince's men to deliver a message to him." Said me.

"I don't care about that. What I care is that your dress and your face does not fit. If you are a mere courier , you should not wear a dress made of silk. And your face is unwashed and dirty. I don't seem to get it. " He said. He was smart. I agreed. "Who are you?" He asked me. This time, I was frightened that my cover might get blown.

"I am just a courier  my lord. I had to wear this dress because I had to come to the palace. " I said.

"I don't think so, I think you are a commoner." He said calmly. He was not wrong about that, I was clearly a commoner in the dream! But what would I have done? Would I have killed myself because I was one? I knew I would get killed at last, but before then, I should live.

"My clothes may not be in line with my face but that does not make me a commoner. " I lied confidently. He pulled out his sword and strike it against me. I knew he had no intention of killing me. So, I thought since he was simple, I should open up to him.

"Forgive  me my lord. " I said as I went on my knees. " How dare I this filthy thing set foot into the palace? I have done the worst. Please forgive me my lord. " I said still on my knees looking desperate for forgiveness.

"The problem is not you entering the palace, the issue is that you are a commoner and you lied about it. If you are nothing, then you should hide so well so no one would see you. You got on my nerves, you should be punished for it. Follow me. " He replied slowly as he left. I followed him immediately waiting for a good end. I wanted to hold myself down, and accept my 'so called' fate, but it was the reverse.

Entering a room covered with gold, I was asked to sit. He leaned closer to me staring at me uncontrollably.

"If you were to be born in wealth, how would you look like? That was what was in my mind. " He said still leaning closer to me.

"Then, I will be very pretty and well reserved. I would not be swayed by any one neither would I be humiliated by anybody. My life would be above perfect, because I would lead it well. " I replied smiling and imagining myself in wealth.

"Now? You can't lead your life well? Because you are not in wealth?" He asked coldly. I began to question his curiosity in my mind. What was he in the first place? 'Well, if I can answer all his questions, he might spare me. ' I thought.

"I have no reason to lead my life well, I will end up dying. As the law never changes, I don't think the fact that I will die would change. But, now I still want to live. Despite my sufferings and agony, I still want to survive. I want to see a lot of things. People talk about eclipse, it's going to be a waste if I die just like that without witnessing it. So, please save me. Please. " I begged. I was ready to do anything to be spared.

"Time runs fast. But you should ignore the law and do everything you want to. You will survive if you do so, if you are brave, you will have a lot of enemies but they won't dare look into your eyes to confront you. Survive!" He said as he let me go. I was moved by that statement. It was the first time someone would ask me to survive and do what I wanted to do. If he was really a royal, he would not have asked me to ignore the law, I thought. But as he was about to leave, I said , "wait, please, do you know the crown prince's chamber, I have to deliver the message. " Since he mentioned I should survive, I believed he should be able to help me.

"Here you are. " He replied.

"Then, you are the crown prince?" I asked surprised.

" I feel no need to answer your questions. Don't make yourself too excited. I am not nice. " He replied in a cool stern way. Turning to leave, I stopped him again.

"At least help me, this is the palace. I would get into big trouble if I they realise that I saw the prince's face. Can you help me? Please help me, I should not get caught." I pleaded. My voice declared sincerity maybe because I was really pained saying it.
