Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Omnipotent System

In a modest residential community, Yang Feng jolted awake, startled by a cold, mechanical voice suddenly resounding in his mind. He quickly sat up, scanning the stark white walls around him. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, he sighed in relief.

Lying back down, he muttered to himself, "Maybe those punks who hit me messed me up more than I thought. This has to be a psychological effect... yeah, psychological."

But before he could fully convince himself, the icy mechanical voice rang in his mind once more.

"Ding—Analyzing host..."

"Omnipotent System successfully bound to host."

Yang Feng froze. His heart skipped a beat as he glanced again at the blank walls, finding nothing unusual. Panic bubbled up inside him. Am I actually going crazy? he wondered.

Just as he resolved to schedule a visit to a psychiatrist the next day, the cold voice interrupted his thoughts again.

"Congratulations, Host, on acquiring the most advanced black technology from another universe: the Omnipotent System."

"Host can interact with the system via mental commands. Please feel free to ask questions as we proceed."

Yang Feng bolted upright, his heart pounding. In a panicked shout, he demanded, "Who are you? Stop messing with me! Show yourself!"

His gaze darted nervously around the small room, but there was nothing out of place. Thinking it might be his mischievous younger sister playing a prank, he climbed out of bed and headed toward the living room.

The living room was sparse—just a bookshelf, two desks, three wooden chairs, and a coffee table. His sister, Yang Lianqing, sat at one of the desks, scribbling furiously on her homework. A year younger than him, she was still in her second year of high school, though they attended different schools.

"Strange... nothing weird going on here. Could it really be some supernatural phenomenon?" Yang Feng muttered under his breath, frowning slightly as he observed his sister.

"Dear Host, I am the Omnipotent System," the voice chimed in his mind, this time with a hint of exasperation. "We are now bound together, sharing the same fate. Please stop acting like an idiot; it's embarrassing."Yang Feng jumped at the sudden voice, his body stiffening in fear. He couldn't help but recall a viral video he'd seen where someone in a supermarket began convulsing uncontrollably, as if possessed.

His imagination ran wild, and goosebumps prickled his skin. In a trembling voice, he asked, "W-Why are you inside me? What do you mean we're fused? Am I possessed?!"

His legs turned to jelly, and he slumped to the floor, sweating profusely.

The system explained matter-of-factly, "I am the Omnipotent System, born in another dimension. My purpose is to help you achieve greatness and dominate this world."

Yang Feng's heart began to steady as he absorbed the words. But as soon as the explanation ended, his lips twitched into a bitter smile. Achieve greatness? Yeah, right. I must really be losing it.

Resigning himself to his "illness," he decided to play along. If I'm already crazy, might as well lean into it.

Just then, a crisp, melodious voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Yang Feng, why are you sitting on the floor?"

Yang Lianqing had turned to look at him, her beautiful eyes filled with concern, a pen still in her hand.

"N-Nothing. I'm fine," Yang Feng stammered as he scrambled to his feet. She can't find out about this... no need to make her worry.

He quickly retreated to his room, closing the door firmly behind him.

The system's voice promptly returned.

"Since you've activated the Omnipotent System, you've been awarded a Low-Grade Universal Job Scroll. Would you like to use it now?"

Yang Feng couldn't help but chuckle. "System, huh? What exactly is this job scroll thing? How do I use it?"

"The Job Scroll allows you to master a specific skill or profession. Scrolls are categorized into low-grade, mid-grade, and high-grade. You can earn more scrolls by completing tasks assigned by the system. Now, please choose a profession to activate."

Yang Feng ran a hand through his messy hair and waved dismissively. "Got anything to make me stronger? Show me that."

"One scroll consumed. Displaying power options."

Suddenly, a translucent screen filled with gray text appeared in his vision.

[Pharmaceuticals]: Grade A Strength-Enhancing Serum

[Physique]: Mercenary Combat Expertise

[Weaponry]: Signature Blade - "Fate's Edge"

[Skills]: Sharingan-like Battle Sense

[Awareness]: Recon Specialist Instincts

Yang Feng's mouth twitched as he scanned the list. This "mental illness" is really something... definitely advanced stage.

The system's voice cut in again. "Host, please make your selection."

"Uh... the mercenary combat expertise," Yang Feng said after a moment of hesitation. He'd read enough novels to know mercenaries were often portrayed as unstoppable warriors.

"Ding—Activating Mercenary Physique."

"System has automatically assigned you the [Mercenary] profession."

A sudden warmth surged through Yang Feng's body, and he felt his strength increasing exponentially. His demeanor shifted, growing cold and battle-hardened. It was as if he had truly become a mercenary.

"The Mercenary Physique grants the host superhuman strength, reflexes, and combat experience," the system explained, now adopting a slightly more casual tone. "To maximize its potential, we recommend activating a firearms-related profession to complement it. Meow~."

Yang Feng clenched his fists and marveled at the raw power coursing through him. It felt as though he could punch through a wall. For the first time, he wondered if all this was real.

Combat strategies and reflexive maneuvers flooded his mind, sharpening his instincts to the point where even dodging an incoming truck seemed effortless.

Unable to contain his curiosity, Yang Feng tested his newfound strength, aiming a punch at the wall.

BANG!
