Chapter 15 - Accidental interweaving

By the time Ruan Xihe arrived on the scene, Feng Yu was clutching a telegraph pole, retching uncontrollably.

Beside her stood an elegant and refined young lad, none other than the Four-star whom she'd chanced upon in the teaching building on a previous occasion.

He evidently recognized Ruan Xihe as well: "It's you."

"What a coincidence," Ruan Xihe cast a glance at Feng Yu and hastened to support her.

Feng Yu was grinning idiotically all the while, mumbling Ruan Xihe's name and phone number under her breath.

It was then that Ruan Xihe realized why the young lad had called her.

"Ruan Ruan, I've seen Ruan Ruan!" Feng Yu had started to act out in her drunken stupor, squatting on the ground and clasping Ruan Xihe's thigh, sobbing copiously.

Ruan Xihe walked over, fetched a tissue, and began to wipe Feng Yu's face. "Why on earth did you drink so much?"

"Do you need my help?" The young lad approached, and it was evident from his demeanor that he'd been brought up with impeccable manners.

"No, thank you," Ruan Xihe offered a gentle smile and then, with an arm around Feng Yu, made her way to the roadside to hail a taxi.

Si Yuzhu watched as Ruan Xihe's retreating figure faded into the distance, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. Truly, what a coincidence.

Inside the Taxi

"Ruan Ruan, I've been dumped," Feng Yu wailed inconsolably.

"When did you get a boyfriend?" Ruan Xihe was taken aback. They were in the same class, yet she'd never noticed Feng Yu getting cozy with any particular boy.

"I, I was in an online relationship," she sniffled, her nose reddening from crying, and in a hapless moment, she hiccupped and blew a snot bubble...

Ruan Xihe remained silent for a couple of seconds, then rummaged in her bag for a napkin and handed it to her to blow her nose.

After getting Feng Yu settled in the second bedroom, Ruan Xihe patiently changed her clothes, removed her makeup, and even fed her some water. By the time all was said and done, it was already past one o'clock in the morning.

...

It wasn't the first time that Feng Yu had stayed overnight at Ruan Xihe's place. When the doorbell rang the next morning, she, with her disheveled hair and flip-flops, scurried to answer the door.

Their eyes met.

"Bang!" Feng Yu slammed the door shut with great force!

"Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! Ruan Ruan!" She shrieked and pounded on Ruan Xihe's bedroom door.

Ruan Xihe, too, hadn't slept soundly, and she opened the door, her eyes still bleary with sleep. "What's wrong?" Truly, there was a world of difference between people. While some woke up looking like ethereal fairies, their beauty veiled yet captivating, others, well, the "lady" part could almost be dropped for the more tomboyish types.

Feng Yu was too flustered to be awestruck by Ruan Xihe's appearance, her tongue tripping over itself: "Teacher Qi is here for a home visit!"

Ruan Xihe:...

This was, perhaps, a rather charming misunderstanding.

However, since playing along might spare them a whole lot of trouble, she decided to let Feng Yu remain in her state of misapprehension. After all, Feng Yu's romantic dalliances usually lasted no more than three months on average.

The two of them quickly tidied themselves up, and in a mere ten minutes or so, they opened the door to welcome Qi Si in.

"Teacher Qi, we had no idea you'd be coming for a home visit. We're completely unprepared," Feng Yu scratched her head sheepishly.

Even Qi Si, with his usually unflappable composure, was momentarily taken aback by Feng Yu's unexpected exclamation of a "home visit."

Ruan Xihe, seizing the moment when Feng Yu wasn't looking, gave Qi Si a discreet wink.

He caught on quickly, guessing that there must have been a misunderstanding: "No need for preparations. It's just a casual check-in."

"Teacher, what would you like to drink? I'll get it for you," Feng Yu was all eagerness, her face betraying not a hint of the heartbroken wretch she'd been the night before.

"No, thank you."

"Yes, please," Feng Yu's grin was ear to ear.

"Just water will do."

"Sure thing!" Feng Yu dashed off a few steps, then, as if remembering something, composed herself, adopting smaller, more restrained steps. At first glance, it was rather impressive.

Once she'd disappeared into the kitchen, Qi Si turned his full attention to Ruan Xihe: "When did she come over?"

"After you left last night, she got drunk, and someone called me to go pick her up," Ruan Xihe replied truthfully.

"Next time something like this happens, call me. It's not safe for you, a girl, to go out alone at night," he said earnestly.

"Got it, Mr. Fussy," she shot him a coquettish glare.

Her heart felt as if it had been soaked in water, an indescribably tingly and numb sensation. Just as she was about to say something more, Feng Yu emerged with a bottle of mineral water.

"Teacher Qi, here's the mineral water. Do you need me to open it for you?"

"Thank you, but no."

...

The two of them had a class at ten o'clock, and Qi Si, seizing the opportune moment, "naturally" offered to drive them to school.

Feng Yu readily agreed, excitedly dragging Ruan Xihe into Qi Si's car.

All the way, her mouth was running non-stop, seemingly intent on uncovering every detail of Qi Si's family tree.

Until, that is, she hit upon the most crucial question: "Teacher Qi, do you have a girlfriend?"用英语翻译"她显然也认出了软荷"这句话把"你怎么在这?"翻译成更具文学性的英文句子.润色"他显然也认出了软荷"这句话,并用更高级的词汇表达.
