**Research Log Entry:** March 16, 2024 – Late Night
My hands are still trembling.
Six hours have passed since the experiment ended, yet the scene continues to haunt me.
At 2:30 PM, I followed Director Li into a laboratory I had never seen before. The door bore no number, but the elevator's display indicated we were on level B3.
"Remember," Director Li said as he keyed in the access code, "everything you see from now on is top secret."
The door slid open, revealing a circular lab. At its center was a massive glass observation chamber, surrounded by an array of monitoring equipment. Yet, what drew everyone's attention was the figure inside the chamber.
"That's Subject No. 7," Director Li said with a trace of pride in his voice, "one of our most successful 'creations.'"
Inside the glass enclosure sat a young woman, appearing to be in her early twenties. She wore a white lab uniform, her eyes obscured by a specialized device, and metallic cuffs encircled her wrists and ankles. What unsettled me most were the faint circuit-like patterns visible on her skin, glowing softly under the fluorescent lights.
"Begin recording," Director Li ordered. "Today, we're testing Subject 7's energy conversion limits."
The other researchers activated the equipment. I noticed Zhang Lin standing quietly in a corner, drawing a glowing blue liquid into a syringe.
The monitors displayed a stream of data:
```
Body temperature: 38.6°C↑
Heart rate: 142 bpm↑
Brainwave activity: Delta irregularity
Energy value: 386 (Baseline: 100)
```
"Administer the psi-inducer," Li instructed. "Dosage: 0.5ml."
Zhang Lin entered the observation chamber and deftly injected the substance into Subject 7's arm. Almost instantly, the data on the monitors began to spike wildly:
```
Energy value: 386→457→523→678
Warning: Approaching critical limit
```
Subject 7's body trembled violently, the circuits on her skin glowing intensely. Then, she spoke. Her voice was mechanical and hollow:
"Target detected... genetic similarity: 98.7%..."
Everyone turned to look at me.
"Excellent," Li said. "Increase the dose to 0.8ml."
As Zhang Lin prepared the injection, I saw her lean close to Subject 7 and whisper something. Moments later, Subject 7 began to struggle violently.
"Error! Error! Archive: Lin Wei... experiment record... deletion failed..."
Alarms blared as the data on the monitors spiraled out of control:
```
Energy value: 899→1023→1378
Warning: System failure imminent
```
"Inject the sedative immediately!" Li shouted.
But it was too late. Subject 7 suddenly turned her head toward me. Even with her eyes covered, I felt an intense, piercing gaze. Her final words before losing consciousness sent chills down my spine:
"Found you... sister..."
She collapsed. Chaos engulfed the lab. Once everything was back under control, I noticed Zhang Lin had vanished.
"That's enough for today," Li announced. "Good work on the documentation, Researcher Wang." He paused. "Stay late tonight and organize the data. I'll need your report first thing tomorrow."
Now it's 1:47 AM. I'm sitting alone in the office, staring at my computer screen. The experiment logs are complete, but several details keep gnawing at me:
1. Subject 7 recognized me.
2. She mentioned my sister's name and a failed record deletion.
3. Zhang Lin's strange behavior and sudden disappearance.
As I was lost in thought, my computer suddenly displayed an unusual message:
**[Access Granted
Decrypting File: Experiment Log B4-7
Decryption Progress: 17%]**
My heart raced. Was this an opportunity or a trap? As I debated whether to continue, footsteps echoed from the corridor. I quickly closed all windows and pretended to work on routine tasks.
It was just a security patrol. Once the footsteps faded, I reopened my computer, but the decryption window was gone.
As I prepared to leave, I found a crumpled note tucked under my keyboard. The handwriting was hurried and messy:
**[Tomorrow, B4 Level, 11:47 PM
7 knows the truth.]**
Was this from Zhang Lin? But isn't B4 sealed off?
As I exited Building 756, lightning flashed across the stormy night sky. Looking back at my office window, I thought I saw Subject 7 standing there, watching me. But when I blinked, the window was empty.
Driving home, my mind was in turmoil. What happened to my sister? Who is Subject 7? Why did Zhang Lin help me? And what's hidden on B4?
Tomorrow at 11:47 PM, I'll go to B4. Even if it's a trap.
Because now, I'm certain—the truth lies there.
And Subject No. 7 might be the key to everything.
