I am tired of everything, and my final decision is to take my leave at the moment.

"I boarded a taxi without looking back."

The taxi journey to Becca's apartment seemed never-ending. 

I watched the city lights fade outside the window, but they hardly registered.

My chest felt heavy, as though all the air had been sucked from my lungs. 

Max's words echoed in my thoughts, a phantom I couldn't shake. "I love you."

The words were supposed to evoke something in me, hope, relief, perhaps even comfort, but instead, I only annoyed myself.

No, it's not only annoying. Treachery. I grasped my suitcase more firmly, nails pressing into the handle as the taxi arrived at Becca's apartment.

I pulled myself up the stairs to her second-floor apartment, my legs shaking with fatigue I sensed not only in my body but also deep within my soul.
