Chapter 10 - Chapter 9

With an agreement to meet up in the morning Michael for once was attempting to have fun. There was a small issue with that idea however. Michael had always kept to his normal routine. By that he never had gone and found what most would call fun especially nighttime activities.

He wandered the streets of the town looking at what was still open. He saw plenty of taverns filled with the sounds of drinking and singing and general night life. He also was cursed to be able to hear what happened inside of the brothels of the city. He even found himself at the flower plaza a small flower garden just off of the northern strip close to the city center.

He found it odd to see men and women just sitting under the faint lights that illuminated the flower plaza. While it was beautiful he found himself going and spotting every herb he normally struggled to find. One couple after another was disturbed as he politely asked to step by them and look over a different herb.

To many peoples shock however when it came to cooking herbs he was an expert. He didn't pick a single one not knowing if he was allowed to, but he was not quiet in his appreciation of each plant he could find.

His speed as he went was truly something most would expect of a legendary hero. Still he did ruin a lot of peoples romantic evenings. Not because he was rude, but many of the women appreciated that he knew so much about each individual plant. Some things most didn't even know. Like if you wished to be a bee keeper in this region taking a weed like a dandelion and rubbing it against your wrist until a yellow streak remained would give you a chance to attract a queen bee.

He even informed them of how lavender was edible and could be used in some recipes as a bit of flair. One woman ended up getting in a conversation with him as they began to enjoy discussing how nice it was to have such a variety of flowers in such an accessible location. He did have to admit he didn't know, but as they say, the night was still young.

His adventure didn't stop there as he went onto explore the market district of the city. it encompassed the northeastern corner of the city and was a mix of open markets, shops, smiths, and apothecary stores. Finding himself nearly back where he started in one of the prime small plazas surrounded by shops he quickly detoured around the plaza.

Finding himself a bit lost he looked around checking out various signs when he found something interesting. A small contest stand was set up with a kind looking dwarven man shouting for all to hear.

"Come one come all, see if you have the will of us all, some will rise some will fall, will you be the one to rise above them all?" The dwarf had a few pointing out all his rhymes were just repeating all. Still the contest was one that intrigued Michael.

He approached with a smile as he asked "is this contest one in which you are to hook a fish? How does that work they look like toys."

"Oh ho you are wise indeed, magnets my boy that is the magic perceived. Metal attracts metal and a link is formed, if you're truly luck a gift is worn." He thrust out a decent looking necklace.

"I see and it takes skill because the magnets aren't strong enough to draw them in unless you get it very close?" He grabbed one of the fishing rods and smiled getting an idea.

"Yes its true, test your luck don't turn blue. 1 silver is all it will take, test your luck and what it make." Being paid for 3 rounds the dwarf smiled as most failed this challenge due to not being experts in fishing.

Michael however was an expert in fishing and even with that he had very high dexterity. His wrist moved with precision and accuracy as he nabbed 3 fish with little effort put in. He held them out and asked with a smirk "I caught 3 so how much is that worth?"

Defeated at his own game... scam the dwarf nodded "True skill has been shown to me, a reward is deserved times 3. This necklace and bracelets you have won, now for this night I am done." The crowd around having seen Michael do so well had thought they would try it themselves. However the dwarf clearly hadn't expected such a talented man to appear.

Michael took the prizes and looked them over. Unlike most who would complain as they were of inferior make he happily saw them as great treasure. He turned and ran off towards the temple. He didn't have a plan, but he wanted to see what could happen. He had something to make it fair trade and see what fun was like.

He arrived after everyone besides those that resided at the temple had gone home. High Priestess happily giving passing blessings and encouraging everyone to have a wonderful night. Seeing Michael return her face lit up with joy. However she became confused as she noticed the necklace and bracelets in his hands.

"Michael, you're back! Why do you have those bracelets in your hand? You didn't do something nefarious did you?" She asked.

"Nothing like that I just played a fun game and this was my prize! I wanted to ask if I gave these to you if you'd show me what people do for fun?" He was out of breath though once he stopped his own face turned red and he suddenly stood straight as a board not even looking like he just ran across the town.

"I don't mind going and seeing the town with you, but... you do know what it will look like if anyone sees how you asked?" She giggled as she looked at him.

He immediately froze up. He just asked possibly the most important bachelorette in town to show him how people have fun. To top it off he even brought what most would call a present. "It's not like that, please just come with me" not that she was given a choice he picked her up piggy back and took off. They were out of sight in less than a second before she was put down.

"Sweeping me off my feet? If I didn't know better I would say you did wish to court me." She smiled laughing softly though to most it would be one of the most angelic sounds they ever heard.

He blushed and shook his head fiercely as he still offered the necklace and bracelets. "I am not you're the only one I know that wouldn't get me into trouble."

She nodded as she turned around. "First if you offer a woman a necklace and least be kind enough to put it on" she let him put it on before turning around. "Second help me with the bracelets." Once those were on she nodded. "Lastly lets go to the late night theater. It is not too loud, but it is always fun to see a show. Just remember if you do it with someone you like take them to dinner first. Well in your case cook them dinner because it will be delicious."

The pair would go on to have a wonderful night. They had fun watching a play based on a true tale of a hero that went on an adventure and would go onto save the world from a demon lords threat.

That tale however is for another day.
