In 1999, a spectacular event unfolded worldwide: thousands of comets streaked across the sky, making New Year's Eve a breathtaking spectacle. As people celebrated the arrival of the year 2000 and the 21st century, a few individuals at the Pentagon detected unusual vibrations, sound waves, and air currents across the globe. Initially, researchers attributed these anomalies to the comet shower, dismissing them as a fleeting phenomenon. However, the comet shower was, in fact, a harbinger of the Earth's end. Mythical creatures from legends and folklore—Leviathan, Kraken, and the Sea Serpent from the oceans; Earth Drakes, Hydras, and eight-legged giant spiders from the plains; Dragons, Phoenixes, and Thunderbirds from the skies; and Atmospheric Beasts, Sky Serpents, and Atmospheric Jellyfish from the exosphere—suddenly appeared worldwide.
The creatures, though present after the comet shower, remained dormant, undetected by researchers. Then, in October 2000, Russian scientists observed anomalies in a Novosibirsk forest: unusual vibrations and altered water flow. The Russian government dispatched forest rangers to investigate. They discovered a massive footprint—one meter wide—near a tree damaged by something over three meters tall. The rangers photographed the evidence. The government urged them to continue the investigation, but the rangers were hesitant. One ranger finally agreed, requesting provisions for his family in case of unforeseen circumstances.
The Russian government agreed, and the ranger ventured into the forest, his camera live-streaming to the government center. As he progressed, the forest's condition deteriorated; he encountered wolf tracks suggesting a pursuit or attack on a large creature. Further on, he found the mangled corpse of a gray wolf. Fearful, yet resolute, he pressed onward, until he reached a place he should never have seen: a monstrous, prehistoric raptor, three meters tall, with a small horn on its head, devouring the wolf carcass. While not significantly larger than a human in build, its size and features were undeniably terrifying.
The ranger was stunned and attempted a hasty retreat; even the researchers, witnessing the creature through the camera feed, urged him to flee. He rejoined his colleagues, urging an immediate escape. As he spoke, the monster's roar echoed through the forest, its vibrations detected even by the Pentagon's equipment. The terrifying sound spurred the rangers into flight, but their escape was futile. The raptor's speed proved insurmountable, and within moments, all three rangers were killed, their upper bodies completely devoured. The researchers, after witnessing this horrific event, transmitted the recording and the ranger's final message to the government.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the Russian President posthumously awarded medals to the rangers' families—an unprecedented honor in peacetime. Foreign intelligence agencies scrambled for information, but the Russian government remained tight-lipped, releasing only a collection of misleading reports. Meanwhile, the President dispatched two senior researchers, accompanied by ten heavily armed special forces soldiers, to investigate the raptor's origin and the appearance of the wolves. Airstrikes were deemed too risky, potentially attracting unwanted international attention. Reaching the site of the attack, the team found no trace of the rangers' bodies, save for a single shoe containing a foot. The researchers documented the scene and collected wolf fur for analysis.
The presence of the wolves was itself an anomaly, as they were not native to that forest. The team collected wolf fur, blood, and other samples from the carcasses. They also secured the ranger's remaining shoe and foot. Continuing their investigation, they reached the initial encounter site. There, they discovered a large nest constructed of animal remains and containing fragments of what appeared to be a massive eggshell. The researchers entered the nest, collecting shell fragments and a tooth measuring one and a half meters in length. With their samples secured, they decided to return to base.
Their luck ran out. As the researchers emerged from the nest, five juvenile raptors sprang from the walls. Realizing they were trapped, the team fled, but their screams alerted the adult raptor. A chase ensued. The soldiers initially attempted to fight back, but their bullets proved ineffective against the raptors' tough hide. They resorted to smoke bombs, but to no avail; the raptors relied on their keen sense of smell, not sight, to track their prey. Within ten minutes, all fifteen personnel were killed, twelve becoming meals for the young raptors. This event, however, was not an isolated incident. Further investigation revealed a far more terrifying creature in the Sahara Desert: a twenty-five-meter-long, seven-meter-diameter giant worm, and a twelve-meter scorpion, both residing beneath the sands, transforming the Sahara into a region as perilous as Brazil's Snake Island.
The horrors extended beyond the Sahara. A nineteen-meter-long, nine-meter-wide alligator weighing over two hundred tons was discovered in the Amazon, alongside a Titanoboa exceeding all previously recorded sizes. Worldwide, nations reported similar monstrous discoveries across land, sea, and air, shattering the fragile peace. Three years later, Doomsday arrived. The previously dormant creatures launched a global assault on humanity. However, in June 2005, after two years of terror, humanity gained a fighting chance: the Beast Taming System. This ability granted tamers 95% of their beast's power, with most individuals capable of controlling one to five beasts—a feat achievable only by the exceptionally gifted.
Humanity viewed the Beast Tamer System as an unprecedented blessing. Immediately, people worldwide attempted to tame the beasts invading their cities. While not all were successful, a significant portion managed to subdue the monsters. Empowered by their tamed beasts, they began hunting the remaining invaders.
Those who successfully tamed more than three beasts began leading others to reclaim abandoned cities. However, this proved exceptionally difficult. The monsters inhabiting these abandoned cities were categorized as extremely dangerous by the Beast Tamer System, with a sub-5% success rate for taming—making non-violent subjugation virtually impossible. Ultimately, out of thousands of abandoned cities, fewer than one hundred were retaken. Following the introduction of the Beast Tamer System, world governments established schools to train future tamers, leading to the discovery of five initial Beast Tamer types.
**Warbeasts:** These Beast Tamers can utilize their tamed beasts' abilities to such an extent that they fight alongside their beasts as a unified combat unit.
**Runeasts:** These tamers specialize in speed-type beasts. They fight using swift movements and evasive tactics. Often deployed on long-range reconnaissance missions, many Runeasts possess exceptionally sharp eyesight.
**Sharpeasts:** These rare Beast Tamers possess the unique ability to transform their tamed beasts into weapons, such as bows or other ranged implements. Their specialized skill is invaluable for subduing airborne beasts, making them easier for other tamers to capture.
**Skybeasts:** These Beast Tamers ride their tamed beasts in aerial combat, much like fighter pilots. However, unlike pilots who use specialized equipment, Skybeasts must withstand the G-forces of flight using only their own bodies.
**Transformic Beasts:** These Beast Tamers can merge with their tamed beasts, transforming parts or all of their bodies into the beast's form at will. This includes gaining features like wings if their beast possesses them.
With these five Beast Tamer types, each nation trains its students according to their physical capabilities. Even if students show aptitude for more than one type, the academies provide assistance in acquiring suitable beasts. However, these academy-provided beasts are typically weak or common varieties readily found anywhere.
