Xia Luwei lifted her gaze to Nan Jinru, biting her lip gently.
Xia Luwei: "Jinru, I'm sorry. I never wanted it to be this way, but I just couldn't help it, I truly couldn't."
Nan Jinru's eyes fell on the wound on her lip, now nearly bleeding from her biting, his brow furrowing slightly.
Xia Luwei: "Please, don't we divorce? Let's not."
Xia Luwei: "I regretted it as soon as I signed. I don't want the money, I don't want the house—I only want you."
Her hands gripped Nan Jinru's shirt, pressing her body into his, and he could feel the soft warmth of her against him.
How had he never noticed how soft and fragrant she was before?
Nan Jinru swallowed hard, his throat tightening as he slowly spoke.
Nan Jinru: "You don't need to go this far."
Nan Jinru: "We should leave now."
He glanced at the others in the room, then, without a word, he pulled Xia Luwei along, heading for the door.
As they passed by Mu Yunxi, she couldn't hold back, reaching out to grab Xia Luwei's arm.
Mu Yunxi: "Have you really divorced her?"
Xia Luwei: "The divorce agreement has been signed," she said, pouting, on the verge of tears.
Mu Yunxi: "So, you're divorced now."
Mu Yunxi: "Then you can't take her with you."
With a subtle tug, Mu Yunxi pulled Xia Luwei to her side, and Mu Chang'er and Cheng Yinan exchanged glances, both unsure where this was headed.
Nan Jinru's brows knitted tighter.
Nan Jinru: "What do you mean?"
Mu Yunxi: "Darling, why didn't you tell me last night that you divorced Jinru?"
Mu Yunxi: "Had I known earlier, we could've gone to the civil office today."
She smiled sweetly at Xia Luwei, her expression gentle, but Nan Jinru's face darkened further.
Mu Yunxi: "Jinru, let me be honest with you. I like Luwei. She was once your wife, and you're my brother, so I kept my feelings hidden."
Mu Yunxi: "But now that you two are divorced, I won't hide it any longer. And besides, we were together last night."
Mu Yunxi openly declared what had happened between them the night before. Xia Luwei panicked, Mu Chang'er's eyes widened in shock, Cheng Yinan raised an eyebrow, and Nan Jinru's expression turned an even deeper shade of black.
Xia Luwei: "No... it's not like that."
She shook her head desperately, looking at Nan Jinru.
Mu Yunxi: "Darling, don't try to deny it."
Mu Yunxi: "You were the one who came to me last night."
Xia Luwei: "…"
Xia Luwei: "I was drunk! I really was!"
Xia Luwei was utterly flustered.
Xia Luwei: "Jinru, please believe me, it wasn't intentional."
Xia Luwei: "Oh no, has the plot already collapsed?"
System: "Don't worry, host. The system hasn't flagged a collapse. Everything's fine. You're safe."
Nan Jinru gazed deeply at Mu Yunxi. He hadn't expected Mu Yunxi to harbor feelings for Xia Luwei.
But so what?
He had already realized his own heart. He had fallen for Xia Luwei.
Now that he understood his feelings, he wouldn't let go.
Thankfully, he hadn't handed over the divorce papers to his lawyer; they were still in his desk drawer. When the time came, he'd simply tear them up.
Nan Jinru: "Xia Luwei, come here. Let's go home."
He extended his hand to her.
Xia Luwei looked at him, then without hesitation, she broke free from Mu Yunxi's grasp.
Mu Yunxi's face darkened even further as he watched Xia Luwei throw herself into Nan Jinru's arms.
Nan Jinru gently ran his hand through Xia Luwei's hair and flashed a mocking smile at Mu Yunxi, then led her out of the room.
Mu Yunxi: "…"
Fuming, Mu Yunxi kicked the coffee table, making a harsh noise.
Mu Chang'er: "Brother, Luwei's not bad. I support you in taking her away."
Then, she could always be close to a beautiful woman.
Cheng Yinan approached and patted Mu Yunxi's shoulder.
Cheng Yinan: "You've kept this well hidden, but from what I see, Jinru doesn't look indifferent toward Xia Luwei. It seems you're destined to lose."
Mu Yunxi: "Heh, who wins or loses is still uncertain."
After all, he wasn't going to let go.
