Serina felt her consciousness fading, the pain had long since numbed her body, only deep despair echoed in her mind. Laughter and insults from all around her, like a bunch of demons celebrating a victory, were the voices she knew best - Jake and Sherry. everything in front of her began to blur, the colours faded like a picture and were replaced by a deep and infinite darkness.
Her breathing was so weak that it was barely audible, and a mixture of blood and tears dripped onto the floor. Each blood splatter was like a reminder of her shame and anger - these people who were once the ones she trusted the most had now become the executioners who had pushed her into hell.
'Why ... why are you doing this to me ...' Her voice was like a faint sigh in the wind, ready to be swallowed by the darkness. However, the resentment that went deep into her bones did not weaken, but instead grew stronger, as if it had lit the last flame in her dying life.
The leader of the gang looked at her coldly with a sardonic smile on his face, ''Blame it on you being too naive. This is what you deserve.'
His kick landed heavily on Serina's abdomen, and in an instant, the last trace of breath was stripped from her body. As the light in front of her eyes completely disappeared, the world completely plunged into an endless abyss.
'Ah!' Serina jolted out of bed, gasping for air as cold sweat soaked through her nightgown. She looked around and realised that she was lying in a small, familiar flat. Everything in the room was so peaceful, as if what had just happened was just a dream.
Her hand subconsciously touched her abdomen; there was no pain or any wound. An indescribable trance came over her. She looked incredulously at her intact self in the mirror, trying to convince herself that she was just having a nightmare.
Just then, her mobile phone suddenly rang.Serina picked up the phone and saw the name displayed on the screen - Sherry.
When the call was answered, a familiar and piercing voice came through the receiver, 'Honey, are you up yet? There's a superb investment opportunity today, and Jake and I want to talk to you about it. We'll be at your house in a while, so hurry up and get ready!'
A few short words instantly pulled Serina's memory back to the tragedy of her last life. She froze, her mobile phone nearly slipped, and thoughts rushed to her brain like a tsunami - this was not a dream. She really had been reborn!
Serina took a deep breath and suppressed the monstrous anger inside her, making her voice seem calm, 'Yeah, I'll wait for you guys.'
After hanging up the phone, Serina clenched her fists, her knuckles whitening from the exertion. She looked out the window at the city in the morning sunlight, and inwardly vowed, 'This time, I won't be left to the mercy of others.Sherry, Jake, what you guys owe me, I will make you pay back a hundred times over!'
Sherry and Jake arrived as promised, Sherry still had the same hypocritical and enthusiastic look, as soon as she entered the door, she opened her arms and embraced Serina: 'My dear, you look so good today! Is there something happy recently?'
Serina barely pursed up the corners of her lips, suppressed her inner disgust, and pretended to say softly, 'Maybe. Don't you guys have something to talk about in terms of investments?'
Jake immediately handed her a document and said with all the confidence in the world, 'It's a sure-fire, multinational investment. We need a start-up capital that will pay for itself very quickly.'
Serina flipped through the document, showing a hesitant look on the surface, but in reality, she was laughing coldly in her heart. These forged information were the key evidence that had swindled her out of her family in her last life.
'Sounds good, but won't ... a cross-border investment be a bit risky?' Serina frowned, 'After all, this money is not a small amount for me.'
Sherry immediately wore an appropriately anxious expression, 'Honey, you're being too cautious! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, we've looked into it and it's absolutely fine.'
She handed a few 'supporting documents' to Serina, the smile on her face appeared to be sincere, but in fact, it concealed impatience: 'You believe us, otherwise how could we have invested so much money in it?'
Serina stared at Sherry's face, a hint of coldness in her gaze. It was as if she saw the smug look of this face in her last life at the time of betrayal. She took a deep breath and pretended to be convinced, 'Well, maybe I should try.
Over the next few days, Sherry and Jake continue to educate Serina about the project's 'bright future', while Serina pretends to co-operate and secretly collects evidence. She discovers that the so-called 'documents' are full of loopholes, and that the fraud gang behind them is the same one that killed her in her previous life.
Finally, Sherry and Jake's patience is exhausted. One day, Jake said coldly: 'Opportunity doesn't wait for anyone, Serina, if you hesitate, the project will be gone.'
Sherry chimed in, 'Yeah, honey, you don't think we're going to hurt you, do you?'
Serina pretended to be torn, but finally 'compromised', 'Okay, I agree.'
The three of them set off on their journey to Southeast Asia, and Serina knew that this time it was no longer her nightmare that awaited, but the end of Sherry and Jake. She would use this opportunity to not only destroy them, but to completely dismantle the entire fraud ring.
She gazed coldly out the window at the clouds and swore in her heart, 'In this life, I will no longer be a victim. You have taught me the price of betrayal, so prepare for the storm!'
