Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: Rohan is Under Fire

The tension in the safe house was palpable. Asha sat at the edge of her seat, her hands gripping a dossier filled with alarming allegations against Rohan. It had arrived earlier that day, delivered anonymously. Each page painted a damning picture: meetings with individuals linked to Raza Khan, financial transactions in untraceable accounts, and plans that suggested a dangerous double-cross.

Rohan was in the next room, unaware of the storm brewing. Asha's heart pounded as she reviewed the evidence once more. The circumstantial details were too neatly aligned to dismiss, yet they didn't fully make sense. How could Rohan, the man who had risked everything for her, be plotting against them?

The Accusations

Nikhil burst into the room, holding a laptop. "Asha, you need to see this," he said urgently.

On the screen was a grainy video showing Rohan in a heated discussion with a known associate of Raza Khan. Though the audio was muted, their body language suggested a serious exchange.

"This was captured two weeks ago," Nikhil explained. "It looks like he's negotiating something."

Asha's stomach churned. "Where did this come from?"

"It was sent anonymously, along with the documents you received," Nikhil said. "Whoever sent it wants us to believe Rohan's working against us."

Before Asha could respond, Rohan entered the room, his eyes narrowing at the sight of the video. "What's going on?" he demanded.

A tense silence followed. Finally, Asha spoke, her voice heavy. "There's evidence suggesting you've been making secret deals with Khan's people." She slid the dossier across the table. "Explain this."

Rohan picked up the documents, his face a mix of shock and anger as he read through them. "This is nonsense," he said firmly. "You know I'd never betray you."

Nikhil crossed his arms. "The video says otherwise. What were you doing meeting with Khan's man?"

Rohan exhaled sharply. "I wasn't meeting with him. I was tailing him, trying to gather intel. Someone must have edited this footage to make it look like I was conspiring."

Asha's Inner Conflict

Asha wanted to believe him, but the weight of the evidence gnawed at her trust. "Rohan, these aren't just minor discrepancies. Bank transfers, hidden meetings—how do you explain all of this?"

He stepped closer, his voice softening. "Asha, you know me. We've fought side by side through everything. Do you honestly think I'd risk it all now?"

Her eyes filled with tears. "I don't know what to think anymore. Every time I let my guard down, something like this happens."

Rohan reached for her hand, but she pulled away, the conflict evident in her expression. "Asha, I love you. I need you to trust me, even if everything points against me."

---

The Team Divides

The tension spread among the team. Nikhil, ever the pragmatist, urged caution. "We can't ignore this, Asha. If there's even a chance Rohan's compromised, we have to act."

Priya, another trusted ally, sided with Rohan. "This smells like a setup. Khan knows we're closing in on him, and he's trying to tear us apart from the inside."

The room descended into a heated debate. Asha, torn between loyalty and logic, finally raised her hand to silence them. "Enough," she said, her voice firm. "We'll investigate further. Until we're certain, no one makes any moves."

---

Rohan's Isolation

The days that followed were agonizing for Rohan. Though he remained in the safe house, the atmosphere had shifted. Conversations stopped when he entered a room. Trust that once felt unbreakable is now hung by a thread.

One night, as Asha prepared to sleep, Rohan knocked softly on her door. "Can we talk?" he asked.

She hesitated but nodded.

"I know you're struggling," Rohan began, his voice heavy with emotion. "But you have to believe me. Every step I've taken has been for us—for this mission."

Asha's eyes searched his face, looking for any hint of deception. "Then help me understand. Who's doing this? And why?"

"I'm working on it," Rohan said. "But whoever's behind this is playing a long game. They're trying to sow doubt because they know it's our greatest weakness."

Asha sighed, her heart aching with conflicting emotions. "I want to believe you, Rohan. But every time I think about those documents, those videos…" She trailed off, unable to finish.

He reached out, gently brushing a tear from her cheek. "We'll get through this. I'll prove my loyalty to you."

---

A Break in the Case

The next morning, Nikhil barged in with a breakthrough. "I've traced the bank transfers," he announced. "They're routed through a shell company that belongs to someone in Khan's inner circle. It's a classic frame job."

He pulled up more footage, this time showing the same meeting but from a different angle. The unedited version revealed Rohan tailing the associate, just as he had claimed.

Asha's heart lifted with relief. "Rohan, I'm so sorry," she said, turning to him. "I should have trusted you."

Rohan's expression softened, but the pain of the past few days lingered. "I understand why you doubted me. But we can't let them win, Asha. They want to break us, and we can't give them that power."

A Renewed Alliance

With the truth finally uncovered, the team rallied together, more determined than ever. The betrayal had shaken their foundation, but it also made them stronger.

As they planned their next move against Khan, Asha and Rohan shared a quiet moment. "We've been through hell," Asha said, her voice steady. "But I know now, without a doubt, that I can trust you."

Rohan smiled, taking her hand. "And I'll never stop fighting for us."

The road ahead was still fraught with danger, but their bond was unshakable. Together, they would face whatever came next.
