A 25 year old guy named Daichi Nakamura works as a police detective together with his partner or maybe more of a sidekick. His detective assistant Lily Kimbel, a 23 year old police academy graduate. Daichi enjoys his job but police work is not his true passion. His true passion and dream is to become a writer, one of the best writers in the world. Daichi wants to create the best story ever written. A story with the biggest plot twists, most action, saddest moments, deepest romance, greatest fantasy, darkest times. He wants to create his first and only perfect story for the world. Apparently he used to read many books on crime cases, fiction, science, nature, etc. True crime books thrilled him the most. His mom was a librarian who used to live with Daichi on the floor above the shop she worked in. Daichi would spend most of his time in the library reading those books till late at night. When there were no more books to read. Newspapers, T.V. articles, any story he could get his hands on while waiting for new books to find their way into the library. Apparently all that reading made him capable of seeing crime scenario patterns easier and gifted him with the right talents for detective work. His father was a police officer who had died on duty, so he always has that career option in his mind. He thought maybe seeing things first hand could help him recreate the exciting feeling of finding out the truth that connected all the dots in the books he used to read and write the perfect one. His mother died in a car accident a few years later. So to quickly find a job to pay the rent he had requested the help of the current police department Chief, one of his father's friends and co-worker. After his guidance, Daichi ended up working as a police detective. A great one, his record would suggest. Until one day he stumbled upon a case of suicide, a college girl that killed herself.
-Inside the car-
Daichi: So that's my story I guess.
Lily: You liked reading that much huh? You'll have endless stories for your children then. You also probably became a great liar.
Daichi: Yeah. Everything I just said was made up.
Lily: HA!?? WHat!??
Daichi: Nuh, I'm joking.
Lily: Someone's funny..
Daichi: Alright we're here.
Car stops outside the college entrance and both detectives make their way to the dorms that the body was found in. As they open the room's door they find a girl collapsed on a desk with her throat slit, a knife on her hand and pools of blood on the floor. A disturbing scenery really. The smell of the rotting flesh reaching every part of the room.
Lily: Ugh.. it's not the same in person as it was reading about it in the academy books.Daichi: And you never get used to it either.
Lily opens her notebook and reads all the information they have on the case.
Lily: Apparently the story as is, says that she killed herself. No motive, no notes, nothing.
Daichi: Unusual. Most suicide victims are attention starving. The desire to end their suffering is the smallest motive they have to do so. Their survival instinct usually prevents that. The reason they commit the act of self harm is usually because of the ecstasy they get by imagining scenarios after their death of people regretting pushing them to suicide. Or people missing them after death, giving value to their existence they felt they lacked. There's usually something left behind for those people. Has the room been searched?
Lily: No, we are the first to come here, except of course for the principal who came to check on the girl after she didn't appear in class for 2 days and found her in that state. According to his testimony, he locked the door behind him and called the police immediately.
Daichi: Go ask him if he found any notes left behind by the victim that he took and didn't report. Search his office too, I'll stay and search the room.
Lily: We don't have a warrant for that.
Daichi: Just say you do, and if he asks for it. Threaten him with arrest and police interference. I'll apologize to the Chief later about it.
Daichi examines the cut on the girl's throat, the knife, the position of the items and the blood around the victim.
Daichi: (Well.. The suicide story checks out. Doesn't look like murder. The lack of motive is what doesn't..)
Daichi notices her bed is not made, making him suspicious. A few moments later, Daichi walks around the College to ask people about their experience with the victim. After a few attempts to find a clue from kids. His efforts proved meaningless considering they all gave the same answer "she didn't really talk to anyone, so I didn't really know her", but eventually he finds a girl who seemed to be more familiar with the victim.
Girl: Asami? Yeah, I've talked to her a few times.Daichi: How so?
Girl: We were in the same class. I happened to go to her room once for a group project.
Daichi: What was her room like?
Girl: Her room?
Daichi: Yeah.
Girl: Normal, I guess..? Too normal maybe.
Daichi Grins as the girls tells him that.
Daichi: (That's what I suspected.)
Daichi: Too normal meaning?
Girl: Well.. spotless. Everything was in order, definitely a countryside girl. Her clothes in the wardrobe ironed and folded, her bed perfectly made, her desk in order and spotless.
Daichi: Thank you. You've been very helpful.
Daichi: (The body was found 2 days after her death. I can't get much from that. I need the lab results)
A few hours later, while Daichi sips coffee at the coffee store nearby the college trying to make sense of the case, Lily arrives.
Daichi: How did your chat with the principle go?
Lily: Well, The principle said he never found anything like a note or a message left behind by the victim. His office was clean too, I didn't find anything suspicious. Also, the Chief called after the principal contacted him for the unauthorized search in his office, and he is furious.
Daichi: Yeah, I realized the principle had nothing to do with it hours ago.
Lily: THEN WHY DID YOU MAKE ME GO THROUGH THAT!?
Daichi: Training.
Lily: You forgot about me, didn't you..
Daichi: A mystery for another day. What did the lab results show?
Lily: Time of death, 10:00 PM, cause of death bleeding. Also... They checked the thing you asked them to.
Daichi: Did they find anything?
Lily: There were bruises of forced entry in the uterus. She had been raped.
Daichi: (She died on the desk, so she didn't try to sleep until let's say 10:00 PM. Yet a girl like that always has her bed in order, but it was a mess 2 days after. Considering no one messed with the room after her death, that means that something happened there. The bed shouldn't be a mess before she went to sleep. After the lab results, suspicions of the common suicide victim's scenario being rape is the probable case. The case should be clear, but there is something missing. A message left behind.. Something pointing to the culprit, maybe a note.. Even if she didn't bother to have him arrested after her death, he is still out there.)
Daichi: Let's go, I want to see the principal. If a student of this school raped her. He would exhibit unusual and stressed behavior. Something like that will have been picked up by the teachers.
The detectives walk through the college campus, making their way into the principal's office. As Daichi walks through the doors, he looks at the Principal and asks him.
Daichi: Has anyone exhibited weird behavior these last few days?
Principal: CAN YOU NOT JUST DO WHATEVER YOU WANT? MAYBE START WITH A HELLO!?
Daichi: Hello. Has anyone exhibited weird behavior these last few days?
Lily: Sorry! He is weird like that sometimes. But he is excellent at his job. Please entertain his behavior and answer.
Principal: Sigh... What happened is very unexpected for our school. We never even had as much as a fight incident before. And yet we have a suicide on our hands now. This is a peaceful school..
Daichi: According to the teachers?
Principal: According to the teachers, to the students, and my daughter Akiko. She is a student here, she tells me about her school life every day at home. Everyone is disturbed by what happened, including my daughter who's already in distress considering she broke up with her boyfriend recently.
Daichi: "Case Solved"
Daichi: Who was she in a relationship with?
Principal: A great student of ours. Haruto Hoga.
Daichi: No further questions.
Daichi opens the door and leaves the principal's office.
Lily: Heh. Sorry for the disturbance. We'll inform you when we find out more!
Daichi and Lily make their way to the basketball court used for the college's basketball team.
Daichi: Haruto!
One of the students playing basketball turns around and looks at the detective.
Daichi: May I borrow some of your time!?
Haruto: Look, I didn't break anything, I didn't steal anything.
Daichi: No, I'm not here for anything as such. Those will be extra charges.
Haruto: What?
Daichi: I would like to ask you about your relationship with the principal's daughter, Akiko. Why did the two of you break up?
Haruto: For reasons that don't concern you.
Daichi: Alright, listen here you little fuck! Answer my questions, or I'll simply tie loose end cases of vandalism to your name and have you arrested, locking you in a cell till the day you grow a beard.
Haruto: I didn't break up with her, alright. Akiko broke up with me. I tried to ask her why, but she hasn't responded to my text since we broke up.
Daichi: When did you break up?
Haruto: We broke up 1 day ago.
Daichi: And where might Akiko be now?
Daichi starts walking towards Akiko's dorm with Lily.
Lily: I don't get it. Except for the fact that we have ignored and violated every policing protocol and broken several federal rules like blackmailing suspects with incrimination and jail time. What does their relationship have to do with this case?
Daichi: Well, the countryside girl is..
Lily: Asami.
Daichi: Huh?
Lily: Her name was Asami.
Daichi: Once Asami first arrived at the university, she didn't exactly fit in. She wasn't very popular apparently. The Principal's daughter is probably a typical pretty mean girl type, so she bullied Asami for not being spoiled like her. Haruto and the rest of the friend group followed the pattern and bullied her too, typical teenagers. Boys bullying is more sexual in that age, every insult is sexual. They are basically hormones with legs. Akiko saw that, got jealous and broke-up with Haruto. Haruto is stupid and single now in this scenario. He took his anger on the cause of the break up which was Asami, raping her. Now all I need is to see if Akiko's character fits the story and if her story is different from Haruto's story. Like the fact that he doesn't know why they broke up, and then we have enough suspicions to take a DNA test from him and match it to the victim's uterus. Then we have our victim's motive and our culprit.
Lily: But they broke up one day ago. Asami has been dead for 2 days.
Daichi: That was the part where the culprit lies.
Daichi at that moment opens the door to Akiko's dorm.
Daichi: Hello miss Akiko, We are detectives, and we happen to suspect your boyfriend Ha...But when he walks in the room to his horror Akiko's body is on the floor. Her mouth is full of razors and bleeding intensely. Her arms and legs bruised, beaten, twisted and broken. Her fingers removed from her hands and her chest impaled with an iron rod.
Daichi: Case not solved..
Lily: Gasp! SHE IS!..
Daichi's face is clearly upset and angry.
Daichi: She is. But why is she.. I was sure that I figured it out..
Lily: I'll call the headquarters!!
Daichi: Wait.. that's..
Daichi reaches for a book next to the Akiko's body that spells "Asori's Diary".
Investigation indicates to a bullying case. A young countryside girl named Asami, a girl that wanted to fit in but was not accepted by her peers. A story of violence, humiliation and rape. A tragedy turned mystery in the college grounds. The suspects? a popular girl named Akiko "The principal's daughter" and her boyfriend Haruto, suspected of raping Asami. A story that seems to have more to it when Daichi finds the dead body of Akiko Nishota on the floor with Asami's diary next to it. The diary described her hellish life in the university with cruel details. The constant humiliation from her classmates. The beating she would receive when found alone by both boys and girls. The way Asami cried every day and her desire to go back home, but avoided because she didn't want to tell her parents the reason she wanted to leave and because they paid a fortune for her to study in a College considering they were barely able to pay for it. And the sexual harassment from Haruto and the rest of the boys. Specifically, Haruto blackmailed her with leaking rape footage if she were to inform the police. Apparently she was raped multiple times. In her room, in the toilets, and beaten till unconscious. Until the day she couldn't take it anymore. It was disturbing.. but the weirdest part was that the book story didn't end with Asami's death. But with Akiko's death. Someone wrote in the diary after Asami's death, but that didn't make sense. Especially since the handwriting before and after Asami's matched perfectly. At that moment the silhouette of a girl appears momentarily as the room's door opens, but when she realizes there are people inside the room apart from the body she runs away. The detectives run after her but lose her in the university grounds. Daichi quickly checks the diary for any clues and to his surprise there was more writing. It spelled, "So I arrived at Akiko's room to retrieve the diary, but there were people inside. I run away! I run to the roof. I'll jump off and stop the pain inside me. I need to share my pain with the others. They need to see my corpse and feel the pain of regret. Feel my pain! Feel guilty!" Daichi refused to accept the obvious fact that the book was writing itself but he rushed to the rooftop to stop the girl as it was his only clue. When he reached the roof Daichi saw the girl stand in the edge of the roof. Daichi's partner quickly tackled the girl to safety, but the girl screamed. "Let me die!" and at that moment, she pulled out a knife and stabbed Lily to death. Then the detective screamed the girls name.
Daichi: Asami!!!
The girl stopped moving.
Daichi: I know what happened. The reason you killed yourself. Everyone who wronged you will pay, but you're turning this into a massacre. Akiko wronged you, I know.
Girl: Her mouth was a sea of venom.. SHE WON'T TALK NO MORE!
Daichi: Akiko is dead. But the girl you're inside right now isn't Akiko.
Girl: She knew what was happening.. AND YET SHE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!
Daichi: Maybe she was scared too. Maybe she had no choices like you! What's your plan now. To kill everyone in these grounds? Lily didn't do anything to you, and yet you killed her! You're turning into a monster worse than the one that killed you!
Girl: This world has nothing but monsters...
Suddenly, the dairy began emitting light. Daichi opened the diary, revealing that everything was there. The dialogue they just had, Lily's stabbing, he tried erasing Lily's name but after a few seconds it reappeared.
Daichi: I can't leave it blank.. it re-writes itself. But what if I wrote another name? I couldn't write anyone. I'd kill an innocent person..
Daichi looks back at the diary and writes his name in Lily's place. Right after that, Daichi blacks outs for a second and when he opens his eyes again, he sees his partner instead sobbing on top of his body. Lily screams when she notices Daichi opening his eyes.
Lily: Wha! Wh! You had no pulse!
Daichi stands up.
Lily: WAIT, DON'T MOVE! I'LL CALL AN AMBULANCE!
Lily runs away, leaving Daichi alone at the roof. When Daichi checks his own pulse, he realizes he still has no heart beat. Then the spirit of Asami appears In front of him.
Asami: You're dead. Well.. not exactly. Not entirely. Let's say on borrowed time.
Daichi: You're Asami? I don't understand. I do, but I don't. Am I dreaming?
Asami: Not really. As you already understand, the diary was.
Daichi: Cursed..
Asami: Yeah.. When you changed your partner's name to yours, well you took her fate. My spirit was connected to the diary, and apparently it moved in your body. My spirit is what's keeping you alive at the moment. I am still bound to this world by that diary. As long as you keep it intact. I stay, and as long as I stay. You get to live because of my spirit in you.
Daichi: That's a lot to take in, honestly.
Asami: You know.. It was very brave of you..
Daichi: hmm?
Asami: To save your friend like that. You're a very kind person.
Daichi: (Am I..)
