The wind howled through the jagged cliffs of the Ashen Peaks, carrying with it a chill that gnawed at the bones. A faint mist clung to the ground, twisting around sharp rocks like grasping fingers. Kade stood at the edge of the cliff, his cloak billowing as the icy wind whipped through his hair. The barren peaks stretched out before him, a lifeless expanse of grey stone and distant shadows.
"This place gives me the creeps,"
he muttered, shivering slightly as the cold bit into him.
Vask, ever stoic, stood beside him with his hands clasped behind his back. His crimson eyes scanned the jagged horizon, searching for something unseen.
'Still no word from Thadric and Selyna,'
Vask said, his voice carrying over the wind.
Kade exhaled, watching his breath fog in the air.
'No word at all? They were supposed to check in hours ago.'
