Chapter 18 - Staring night..

As we entered the cafeteria, I was immediately struck by the sheer number of students packed into the room. The noise level was deafening, with conversations and laughter filling the air.

"Looks like we won't have anywhere to sit," I said to Kai, turning to make my way back to the exit.

But Kai was not one to give up easily. He grabbed my arm, his grip firm but friendly, and spun me back around.

"You must be insane if you think I'll give up," he said, his eyes glinting with determination. He let out a loud whoop, grabbing the attention of everyone in the room.

"HEY EVERYONE, DO YOU MIND SHARING A TABLE WITH US?" he bellowed, his voice echoing off the walls.

The room fell silent, with all eyes turning to us. I felt my face grow hot with embarrassment, but Kai just grinned, seemingly oblivious to the awkwardness.

I tried to convince him that we could just eat in the classroom, but he was having none of it. Instead, he scanned the room, his eyes locking onto a familiar face.

With a whoop of excitement, Kai dragged me across the cafeteria, weaving through the crowded tables until we reached a small, empty table where a single girl sat.

"Yo, Lyra!" Kai exclaimed, his voice booming across the room once more.

The girl looked up, her piercing blue eyes locking onto us. I recognized her face - she was the girl who had been eyeing me in class the other day.

"Why do you always have to be so loud, Kai?" she asked, her voice calm and measured, as she adjusted her gold-rimmed spectacles.

Kai just laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'm not that loud, am I?" he protested, though it was clear he knew he was being loud.

As Kai and Lyra chatted back and forth, I couldn't help but notice her striking appearance. Her short, silver hair fell just above her shoulders, framing her heart-shaped face. Her eyes seemed to bore into those she looked at, as if sizing them up.

She was dressed in the academy's uniform, but she wore it with a precision and care that made her stand out from the crowd.

After a few minutes of chatting, Kai and I took seats opposite Lyra, who introduced herself with a formal smile.

"Hello there, I'm Lyra Frost. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Before you say anything, I'd like to inform you that I am top of our class in academics and would not mind tutoring you if need be."

Her words were laced with a quiet confidence, and I found myself feeling a little intimidated.

Just as I was about to respond, Kai leaned over and clapped me on the back.

"Einnie here is a good pal of mine, so I hope you two can get along," he said, his grin infectious.

Lyra raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes.

"I'll do my best," she said dryly, though I could tell she was already warming up to us.

As we chatted, I found myself feeling more and more at ease. It was clear that Kai and Lyra were close friends, and their easy banter and teasing was a joy to watch.

Just as things were starting to feel comfortable, an announcement boomed over the cafeteria's speakers.

"Presenting the newest members of the student council!"

The room erupted into applause as a group of five students walked onto the stage, smiling and waving. I scanned the group, my eyes widening in surprise as I spotted a familiar face - Zuria.

"Zuria?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Kai and Lyra followed my gaze, their faces breaking out into smiles.

"Your highness," Kai said, standing up and bowing low, Lyra following suit.

I felt a pang of embarrassment, realizing that I had forgotten about Zuria's royal status.

As the student council members made their way off the stage, Zuria came over to our table, a gracious smile on her face.

"No need to be so formal with me, any friend of Einar's is a friend of mine," she said, her voice warm and welcoming.

Kai and Lyra introduced themselves, and we spent the next few minutes chatting and laughing together.

As the day drew to a close, I found myself feeling more at ease than I had in weeks. Being around Kai, Lyra, and Zuria made me feel like I was finally starting to find my place at the academy.

As we parted ways, Kai clapped me on the back. "See you tomorrow, Einnie!" he exclaimed, his grin infectious.

I rolled my eyes good-naturedly. "Just call me Einar, okay?" I said, smiling.

Kai chuckled. "Sorry, buddy. Old habits die hard."

As I made my way back to the dorms, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards Kai and Lyra. They had taken me under their wing, and for the first time since arriving at the academy, I felt like I was part of a group.

Later that evening, as I was getting ready for bed, I heard a commotion coming from the boys' dorms. I poked my head out into the hallway to see what was going on.

Apparently, the guys were having some kind of competition to see who had the most impressive physique. I shook my head, chuckling to myself. Guys could be so ridiculous sometimes.

I decided to pass on the competition, opting instead for a quick shower and some fresh air. As I sat on the balcony, looking out at the stars, I felt a sense of peace wash over me.

Just as I was starting to relax, I heard footsteps approaching. I turned to see Zuria walking towards me, a calm smile on her face.

"You shouldn't be out this late," she said, her voice gentle.

I shrugged. "Neither should you."

Zuria sat down beside me, and we spent the next few hours talking and laughing together. It was moments like these that I cherished, just being able to be myself around someone who truly understood me.

As the night wore on, I found myself feeling grateful for the friendships I had formed at the academy. Despite the initial struggles, I was starting to feel like I was finally finding my place.

And as I looked over at Zuria, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, I would face them with her and the others by my side.
