Chapter 24 - Pier Tavern

At the gate of Flying Fish Harbor.

The sun was shining brightly, making the soldiers guarding the door look a little lazy.

"alert."

An old city guard noticed something unusual approaching the city gate, and reminded his companions to be vigilant to prevent any accidents.

He looked closely and found that it was two teenagers supporting each other. He couldn't help but show a look of disgust: "It's okay."

The young city guard also recognized them and stared at them with wide eyes: "Tsk tsk, they are not going to dig out the lair of some wild beast, are they?"

The two young men slowly approached, and others could see their miserable appearance more clearly. One of them was limping, and the other had a hideous face. It turned out that he had a big bump on his head. Both of them were wet and looked as messy as they could be.

Seeing their miserable appearance, several city guards did not dare to stop them for fear of getting themselves into trouble.

The two young men were Roseside and Benson who had just returned from outside the city.

The two men moved forward with difficulty and finally passed through the city gate and came to a place behind the city wall where there were donkey carts.

Seeing the two men, the man guarding the donkey cart did not show any disdain. He stepped forward and asked, "Gentlemen, how can I help you?"

Benson said dazedly, "Go home."

Roseside quickly tried to stop them: "Send us to the nearest best clinic, quickly, we won't waste your travel expenses." He had a broken leg and was in pain all the way. He had no idea how much cold sweat he had been sweating.

Sitting on the donkey cart, Roseside breathed a sigh of relief with gritted teeth.

He swore to the merciful Virgin Mary that he would find an opportunity to avenge the current vengeance and the previous one after he became more powerful.

As for complaining to his parents, he really didn't have such an idea. He couldn't afford to lose face, otherwise he wouldn't be able to stay in the neighborhood.

Not to mention the embarrassment of the two people.

On the other side, after entering the city, Ivan came to an adventurer's tavern near the dock in the south of the city.

'Giant Shark Headbutt'

He glanced at the strange name above and found that it was the place his brother Biman mentioned. He stepped into the noisy tavern.

The smell of alcohol and sweat hit me in the face.

Ivan frowned slightly, looked at the door, and walked straight to the counter.

"Give me a skull wine."

Standing behind the counter was an old strong man, a well-known retired adventurer near the dock, named 'Old John'.

Old John glanced at Ivan, picked up an oak cup with a wire around it, placed it under the barrel on the shelf behind him, pulled out the cork of the barrel, and the light red wine flowed out and fell into the oak cup.

While handing over the wine, Old John reminded: "Boy, don't act like a spoiled child in front of me after drinking, or I will test the hardness of your skull."

Ivan paid a silver coin, took the oak cup and said nothing.

This was due to his youth. The other party probably thought it was his first time drinking.

He found an empty table with his glass of wine and sat down against the wall, first looking at the "skull wine" in his hand.

The tavern only had one large wine glass, the oak glass in front of him, which was taller than his palm. The wine inside was light red and turbid, and it was actually a kind of beer. "Skull Wine" was the name of the wine when the tavern opened many years ago, and only a few local snakes knew it.

Nowadays, it has been renamed "Head Hammer Wine". It is said that after drinking it, your head will feel like being hit by a hammer.

But reporting the name of 'Skull Wine' could save a lot of trouble, Biman told him.

"The alcohol content is not high, probably around 15%, and there is a very strong strange smell in it." Ivan took a sip and tasted that it should be a wine fermented from wheat, similar to beer, mixed with a very strong numb taste.

It's not really to his taste.

He took small sips while looking at the various people in the tavern, including adventurers dressed as mercenaries, eloquent bards, more sailors and dock workers, and a half-drunk nightingale leaning against the wall.

This kind of place is full of all kinds of people, and there might be a few scammers and thieves in there.

After observing for a while calmly, he was attracted by the bard's words.

"Remember the colorful black ship last time? Many young masters and young ladies died while leaving on that ship."

"Bill, you are such a boaster. How can you pry into the affairs of a noble young master?"

"Hey, I don't need to ask. A lady who likes to listen to my travel stories said it after drinking. It is said that five or six people died."

Ivan's eyes flickered when he heard the conversation between the two. Donnie had also said something like this, but the number was different.

Another person exposed the bard's words and cursed with laughter: "What lady? She must be a plump cook, hahahaha."

"That's also the plump cook of a noble family, hahahaha."

The bard also laughed, not minding his companion's joke at all.

Ivan grinned and almost believed what the birdman said.

"Clang clang——"

Soon, a low knocking sound came from the counter. Old John was hitting a rusty anchor with his fist.

Hearing the sound, many people stood up and walked towards the back of the tavern.

Ivan no longer cared about having only drunk a thin layer of wine, and walked slowly with the crowd.

There is a passage at the back of the tavern. Through the passage, you will come to a place similar to a warehouse. This is actually a ship that has come ashore. Only the floor below the deck is now used as a trading market. There are square tables nailed inside with partitions in the middle, and the tables can be used to place trading items.

This is also Old John's territory, and he only charges the vendors a rent of a glass of headbutt wine.

Ivan was short of medicinal materials and Biman was not at home, so he had to come here by himself.

"How much?"

"30 silver coins on the left, 50 silver coins on the right, both give a bundle of arrows."

He had felt that the crossbow was good before, and regretted not taking some spoils from the two men, but he did not expect to run into someone selling strong bows and crossbows. After a careful comparison, he simply paid 50 silver coins and got a fine crossbow.

As the name suggests, the hand crossbow is tied to the arm and can be hidden in a loose sleeve. Three short crossbow arrows can be loaded on the hand crossbow at a time and fired by shaking the arm or stimulating blood and qi.

He had learned a trick from Roside that crossbow arrows must be poisoned.

After walking around for a while, Ivan found one of the men who had some medicinal herbs placed in front of him. He subconsciously glanced at the other man's sloppy beard, which was only half cut and was indeed red.

"Mr. Redbeard, Beeman sent me here."

"Where's the money?"

After paying the money, Ivan received the goods, a cloth bag containing boxes of different sizes.

When handing him the bag, Red Beard asked intentionally or unintentionally, "Do you still have the secret medicine from last time?"

Ivan looked at Redbeard in surprise: "What?"

Biman had reminded him of many things before, including that Red Beard was honest and a little cunning, so he would naturally not be deceived by such a trick.

Red Beard lowered his voice and said, "I heard that Beeman once sold a secret breathing medicine. Let him talk to me. I can make him five more gold coins."

Ivan thought about it for a moment and replied, "No problem, I'll tell him."

Seeing that he truly didn't know, Red Beard loosened the bag and allowed him to check it.

After the transaction was completed, he didn't stay in the cabin for long.

Originally, he wanted to see if there were other breathing methods for sale, but this market was too small and there was no way such precious things could be found there.

After leaving the Shark Head Tavern, Ivan did not take the small path, but walked back along the crowded street. A voice made him stop and look over.

"Donnie, come here, Master."
