FORTY
Sophia sat at the side of her small wooden bed, her hands held together so hard that her knuckles had gone white.
She had not slept in days, her mind was filled with one fear that Ava had been lost in the battle.
When Lorenzo finally arrived at her door, she could not breathe. She searched his face eagerly, her heart beating against her ribs.
"Tell me, is she…?" she whispered.
"She's alive, Sophia." Lorenzo sighed, walking inside.
Sophia's legs nearly gave out. She pressed a hand against the wall, breathing out a shaky breath.
"She's alive?" she repeated, needing to hear it again.
"More than that she fought. And she won." Lorenzo nodded.
Tears filled Sophia's vision. She pressed a hand to her chest, letting out a quiet sob of relief.
"Thank the Moon Goddess," she whispered.
"She's getting stronger, she's leading, fighting proving she's more than anyone expected." Lorenzo continued.
