"What are you doing?" Emma glanced over her shoulder as Leon followed her down the hallway toward her room.
"I feel tonight might be cold," he said, his answer seemingly unrelated.
"And? What does that have to do with me?" She arched her brows in annoyance. "Stop right there," she warned, pointing a finger at him. "Don't come near my room starting tonight."
"I need to be on fire, Miss Whitmore," Leon replied, his cold expression beginning to crack as he struggled to suppress a smile, clearly amused by his own joke.
His unexpected reaction made Emma freeze. "Did you just smile?"
"Why? I can't smile?" The smile immediately faltered when Emma questioned it.
She shook her head, "No, it is beautiful."
Leon tilted his head slightly, his amusement replaced by curiosity. "Beautiful?" he repeated, as if testing the word on his tongue.
