The day passed in a blur of classes and introductions. Logan tried to keep his distance, careful not to reveal too much about himself. He wasn't used to being surrounded by so many people. Most of his existence had been spent alone, wandering from one place to another, never staying long enough to form relationships.
By the end of the school day, Logan found himself standing at his locker, staring into the mirror that was mounted on the inside of the door. He hadn't eaten in over 24 hours. The hunger was getting harder to ignore.
Just then, Ansley appeared next to him, surprising him. "Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out later? After practice?"

Logan froze. He hadn't expected this, but he couldn't say no "Sure. I mean … yeah I'd like that."
"Great, we're all meeting up at the park," she said with a smile, and then noticing his hesitation, she added "Don't worry, nothing fancy, just a few of us kicking back."
He nodded, trying to ignore the strange flutter in his chest.
