Chapter 1 - Business On The Brink

Gehenna City is known for a shady background, a place filled with thieves and murderers. Not a day passes where the streets are quiet or composed.

At a rented office from the southern part of the city, a big man slams his hand on the table, enraged by the mistake of a rookie mercenary. "RION! This is the SEVENTH time you let a client scam you!!!"

Coming back to the base with a small pouch of pebbles, Rion didn't expect this outcome at all. "Shit, it's one of those trickster mages again! Raven, believe me, the pouch contained gold coins when I—"

"I GET IT! I get it... tch. This is why I hate employing non magic users like you." Raven's comment left a bitter taste in Rion's mouth, the young man hangs his head and sigh.

"It's not like I wanted to be born this way." Rion muttered, his hands forming into a fist.

The office door swung open as a woman barged in, "Cut the kid some slack, Raven! It's not his fault."

"Hiller..." Raven gritted his teeth at the sight of his sister, "Don't keep siding with him, we're running a business not some damn CHARITY!"

"Yeah, I know." Hiller stood behind Rion and gave him a smack on the head, "OW! What was that for!?" He complained.

Hiller raised an eyebrow, placing a hand on her hip. "As for you little man, it's clear as daylight that you're not meant to be a mercenary. You can't do shit!"

"Then how am I ever gonna make a living!?"

"We need someone doin' the errands on the tavern downtown, whadd'ya say?"

"NO!" Both Raven and Rion yelled in unison.

Taken aback by their reaction, the corners of Hiller's lips curved down. "And why is that?"

"I don't want to be an errand boy!" Rion stomped his right foot.

Raven got up from his chair, seemingly frustrated as ever, "We can't afford to lose another one, Hiller. Ever since the Wolfgang opened up, everybody started goin' over there!"

"You know what, Raven. How about we just drop this part of the business?" Hiller said straight up, the siblings have been running their older brother's founded business ever since they started it all together, but as the years went by, competitions have risen and got them fumbling at the market.

"Did you really just say that!? Do you hear yourself, Hiller!?" Raven raises his voice, the intimidating sight of this big man had Rion shrinking at a corner.

"I know what I said." She pressed, "Face it,

"Damn it, are you really telling me to give up on Vesper's legacy!? You..." Through his anger, mana seeped from the gaps of his fingers and formed into an exaggerated weapon for knuckles.

Hiller squinted her eyes at his fist, "What, you tryna hit me? Beat me blue?" She then reaches for the folded dagger in her back pocket.

"That's a good idea, you can always heal yourself with your ability, yeah?"

"I'd hate to break it to you, but I'll be the one healing you after this."

The two seemed like they were about to fight, and as much as Rion would like to jump between them, he's got no ability to stop the two from this awaiting disaster. "C-Can't we just calmly talk this out—" He got cut off.

"SHUT UP, RION!" The two yelled and almost went for each other's throats until somebody appeared on the doorway. "Excuse me."

The three turned their heads and saw a young lady with very long bangs that covers half of her face and wearing a fancy lavander dress, appearing like some kind of living doll.

"I hear this place accepts any kind of request." She smiled.
