How could this have happened? I was supposed to be the most powerful being to exist. So how, how! How did some humans defeat me?Â
I've ruled over this world for longer than any of them have lived!
'I can't Lose' I thought while a blade was drawn to my neck, looking at the boy's eyes I couldn't help but feel a sense of fear. Were these the eyes of the person who will end me?
My life started flashing before my eyes.
...
I was born in a legendary clan of monsters, tho my powers weren't really that special on their own they had potential. I used to watch monsters around me go to find a human to contract with, I never understood why you would want that, to be chained.
So I vowed that I would change how this world worked. I trained my whole life, and it was worth it, I was able to conquer multiple kingdoms and had a strong army growing under me. I was truly at my peak, my conquering lasted until some of my soldiers started protesting against my rules of not making contracts.
They made a group that focused on human-monster contracts, I could have destroyed them when they started, but I didn't want to.
And now I realize my mistake.
"It's time, your ruling is finally over... oh great king." I don't know why, but his voice absolutely infuriated me, maybe because his determination reminded me of my brother, the one who started the group that went against me.
I watched as the hero's hand started glowing, and a weird runic symbol appeared on his palm.
"But before you die I want you to make a contract with me" Those words came unexpectedly, did this kid really think I would do that, I would rather just die.
'Go to hell kid.' Those were my last words before I sealed myself with a strong sealing skill I acquired a long time ago. Tho I never thought it would be useful.

I woke up grumpy, another boring day at school was waiting for me. I got up put some clothes on and started my routine.
'Man, my hair is messy.' I said while I looked at my white hair in the mirror. My attention was peaked by a couple of black stripes in it, I've never found out why I had them. No one in the family did, so why did I?
After I got done in the bathroom I went to the kitchen, where I saw my mother and sister. Father was busy again, I guess being a guard isn't an easy job. I sat down and started eating.
"Tomorrow you're going to be allowed to get a monster contract, are you excited honey?" My mother said.
I first finished the food in my mouth before I talked. 'Very excited, I wonder what monster would want to contract with me. I hope it's strong!'
"Honey, you know strong monsters only contract with people who choose to do hard memories."
'There's still hope!' I said not letting my mother's words put my expectations down.
I am fifteen years old, tomorrow I turn sixteen. And whenever you are sixteen you are officially allowed to get a monster contract.
To get contracted you have to complete a memory. Memories are trials that different monsters can watch, if they find you interesting they can choose to make a contract with you, and bless you with their power. Memories have different difficulties. The harder the memory the stronger the monsters watching.
Memories are exactly what they sound like. They sent you to a specific time in your life, you could be put in your own body at that time, or someone else's. There you have to survive for a week.
People like me chose the easiest difficulty, we don't have the survival skills to do one of the hard memories.
I looked at the watch on my arm. Then I spit out the soda I was drinking. 'Im late!'
I grabbed a piece of toast and started running towards my school. I go to Almyst Academy, one of the best academies on the continent, but to tell the truth, I only got in because of my amazing studies.
I slowed down a bit before I turned the corner, where I saw a truck heading toward me.Â
I watched as the truck hit a squirrel, good thing I slowed down or else I wouldn't even been able to try to get a monster contract. I then finally arrived at my school. The cherry blossom trees always relaxed me. They were truly making the school much more beautiful. But in my opinion, the school was already beautiful! Its gothic look made it pleasing to the eye.
But I didn't have time to admire it, after all I was late.
I ran inside and went to my classroom. I had survival class.
Classes for under sixteen consisted of things that will help you in your memory. This class was really important, I mean you never know what will happen in your memory.
"Jacob Moon! You are late again." I looked over to my teacher, she was clearly mad.
'Im sorry Miss, I had some... work to do.' I tried my best to make an excuse, but I don't think she bought it.
"Alright just take a seat." I went to my usual spot in the back.Â
I felt someone stab me with a pen. 'Owch' it was my friend Emily. We have been best friends for forever. She was a nice blonde girl with pink eyes, that was very extroverted.
I admit, that I didn't focus much on class, I had to get back the sleep I lost. Even so, I was going to the easiest memory, there was no need to overprepare.
My other classes were also boring, only the fighting class was interesting, we fought each other. I of course lost. But that will change tomorrow after I get my contract. I just have to have hope.
While walking home I saw some kids beating up an old man. I had to help him, I couldn't just stand there. But when I went to confront they went inside a building.
When I followed them inside I was transported to a weird throne room. 'Since when was this here.'
The bullies were also nowhere to be seen so I just decided to explore.Â
The place was massive, who lived here?
Looking at the throne a thought came to my mind. Don't judge me for what I did next, everyone else would have done the same.
I sat down on the throne and put on the crown. 'So this is how the king feels, it's nice.' After I said that I suddenly started to feel very tired, and I was barely conscious
I was also starting to hear a voice in my head. What was it saying? I couldn't concentrate, I felt like my mind was going blank like I was losing my body.
...
'Finally, how long has It been since I sealed myself.' My seal was finally broken, sadly by what I was able to notice, by a weak boy. But at least I was free.
I must admit, I wasn't used to this stature. I felt quite small.
I spent some time in the city, seeing what had changed since I was gone.
To be truthful, almost nothing. The only new thing was these memories, back in my time you had to meet a monster and come to an agreement.
Now things were easier. I had to say, I was quite excited to see how it is to be the one to receive the power of a contract, instead of giving it.
The problem was how was i going to blend in at home.Â
This guy had his address written on a piece of paper in his wallet, so I was able to get home, but that was the easy part.
"Your back! I was so worried!" By her appearance and her way of talking, I assumed this was my mother. The mother of the boy I took control of.
'Im sorry, I promise it won't happen again, I'm going to my room if you don't mind.' Then I left and found my room. I laid down on the bed.
I wanted to see if I still had my powers, I didn't. That's a shame. It doesn't matter il just get to my formal might again with a monster contract.
After that, I went to see how humans slept. And I had a dream. I heard about these dreams before, but never experienced one myself, I have to say that it was quite lovely.

What was that annoying noise? I got up and followed the noise to a weird machine.
'Weird' I touched it and then it stopped, this was new.
Walking out of the room, Mother approached me.
"Jacob Moon, do you know what time is it? You're going to be late for your memory."
'Ah I'm sorry, il go right away... where is it exactly?'
...
When I arrived at where the Memory Corporation building, I was met by four men. They guided me to a place with some weird blue doors.
"Alright kid fast, which memory difficulty do you want?" I smiled as I heard his question.
'The hardest one.'
The men looked at me surprised, they didn't know if I was joking or not. I wasn't.
"Ar-Are you sure?"
'More than sure'
"If you say so kid. Just don't die." As he said that, all the doors turned black, only one keeping its original color. That must have been my destination.
I walked over to it, and before entering I took a deep breath.
It was time for me to be Reborn.
