Sirius waited at the doorway of the mansion for the sun to finally set. He had packed a bag which was swung over his shoulder. It contained a few changes of clothing and plenty of formula and diapers for Lachlan. Also a few pouches of blood in the case of emergencies.
He was good at being patient, having learned from a young age not to let worry show on his face, but this day had gone on forever. Saoirse had vanished almost five hours ago and it felt like the clock had ticked by so slowly as he waited for the ability to go outside that the shadows the sunlight cast on the ground seemed to mock him. Taunting him as the sun cast shadows on the ground that weren't large enough yet to prevent him from burning.
He had wanted to leave right away, but the beta insisted that Heimdall could only open the bifröst outside or the building would be destroyed. Sirius wished it didn't matter, a building they could rebuild, but his wife, if she died, he didn't know how he could find her. Or if he could. Perhaps they would end up in hell together, but surely they would be separated again when they were reborn. He feared he would never see her again.
"Come on!" He whined as the setting sun dragged its feet. He clutched at the doorframe until his knuckles turned white, willing for the sun to go down faster.
Ten more minutes passed, and then a shadow finally crept close enough for him to escape.
With a running start, he exploded out of the doorway, scattering feathers and leapt into the air and unfurled his black and white wings spanning nearly eight feet as he held Lachlan tightly in a hug.
Then he surged forward, then upward into the sky. Climbing with fierce beats of his wings until he reached a height that he could see the north gate, he changed velocity and proceeded into a dive.
Lachlan let out a shrill "ahoooo!" As he beamed with joy and excitement.
Nothing ever scared him when it came to Sirius. It made him a proud father. He was ever grateful to Linus for his sacrifice he'd made to make him and Saoirse happy.
"Thank you Linus." He said, "I promise, I'll save your sister."
In less than a minute, he landed on the pavement again, his wings beating steadily to slow his descent and brace him for the impact. Then, with careful precision, he touched down, in a fluid, brisk stride towards the group that had been waiting there.
The beta, the two teenagers, and the young girl stood waiting. Although, it seemed to Sirius that nobody realized the girl was there. As he looked her direction, she placed a quiet finger to her lips, confirming his conclusion. She was probably not invited on this outing. He turned away from her. The Beta's bad supervision of his kids wasn't Sirius' problem, especially after the first words that left his mouth:
"We've been waiting here forever for the sun to go down; such a bother you don't care enough about this rescue plan to endure a little discomfort. We could have left hours ago." He sneered.
"It's not discomfort, it could kill me, and Saoirse might feel it too, so I have to be careful. She's probably pregnant."
The beta scoffed. "The doctor said it was a false alarm so I doubt it. It's been a month. Werewolves only gestate for six, she would be in her second trimester soon. Believe me, you'd smell her cub by now if she had one."
Sirius frowned. "Well she hasn't had her periods and she's still throwing up."
"Father are we going to waste our time with this banter or are we going to do what we came here for?" The haughty twin interrupted.
"Right. Right." The Beta werewolf lifted his face to the sky and yelled, "Heimdall! OPEN THE BIFRÖST!"
With a burst of light, a prism exploded around them and an overwhelming rush ignited Sirius' soul as he was pulled into the air, the matter around him warping and his consciousness nearly slipping away from him by the force.
He blinked his eyes and clutched Lachlan closer. The baby screamed in shock at the sudden exhilaration.
And then they landed with the same amount of force, Sirius' legs nearly breaking underneath him and the light was gone. The surroundings had changed and they were now in a golden room, lit by bright torches on the wall. The floor was made of rainbow glass that showed all of the realms below except for Nefilheim, which was outside of Heimdall's jurisdiction.
A burly man now stood before them, exhuding the air of a Viking warrior, his tight muscles flexing as he turned his sword to close the portal he had opened. His entire body was clad in resplendent golden armor that shone with a divine brilliance and left Sirius with the feeling of awe and reverence.
"Heimdall!" The beta exclaimed, his forearm clasping against the God's. "It's been a long time my brother."
