Chapter 39 - chapter 36 I can’t save her!

The next thing that Sirius saw in his vision of this alternate reality was that he had been chained to a wall in a standing position and starved for a few days. He looked like he had taken quite the beating. Fire had scorched the walls around him. Had his father seen his beast then? If Linus and Brimir hadn't gotten involved, he had been about to let him out.

If not, then why had he let himself be beaten so badly? He worried about Saoirse, but there wasn't a way to go back to that part of the vision. He feared the worst. He feared for his child. Tears wet his eyes as he stood there, chained to the wall, taking a first person perspective, but not controlling what was going on.

No one had come to speak with him during that time. The air was musty and dark. A rat wandered around the cell and his stomach growled. But it was out of reach. Keeping him starved like this meant he hadn't been able to change his form so he had rubbed his wrists against the chains for a while but it had been no use. His reddened wrists burned with pain.

If I keep trying to get out I'll just hurt Saoirse and then she will worry. He thought to himself. But still, he seemed to be only reliving a memory of some alternate self.

He sighed. How was he going to get himself out of this one?

The rat scurried away after a while leaving him alone.

Then footsteps approaching could be heard outside and a chain on the door was unlocked. He saw their shadows from under the door swaying as someone finished unlocking the door and a clang was heard as the chain was removed. Then several locks were unlocked and a familiar man came into the room. Light was reflecting off of his armor from a torch in a guard's hand. He wore the same red leather that he always wore ever since Saoirse had come to live with them. It was forbidden to ask him why he wore armor even while sleeping, but he had said it was a symbol of his power. Shadows crossed his face as he smiled at his son.

"Hello Sirius, I want to give you one more chance to be honest with me, where are the werewolves hiding?"

Sirius said nothing.

"Very well, let's see if he talks after he loses a bit of blood."

Sirius screamed inside! "Blow fire at him! Do something! Don't let him hurt my wife anymore!" But his other self didn't hear is plea.

The guards removed the chains from the wall and fastened them to a bolt in the floor and Sirius was now kneeling in front of his father. He nodded his head and a guard pulled out a whip. He swung it back and slashed Sirius in the back with it. He cried out in pain and Alastor yelled at him, "Tell me where they are!"

"No!" Sirius screamed in pain as they whipped him again. Whip after whip was inflicted on him and he cried out tears going down his face at the thought of Saoirse feeling this pain as well. That cursed bond! Why was it even a thing amongst Vampire royalty?

He received another lash from the whip and Alastor got in his face and hissed at him, "I sent my men to inquire at all the universities in North Banes and none of them have Saoirse enrolled there, how convenient is that?! Where have you hidden her? You cannot take my woman from me! I have spent too much time raising her and I will not have her running away like her mother, now answer me now!"

"She is MY wife, not YOURS!" Sirius' beast growled angrily. "She is MINE and I will NEVER let you have her, you stay away from her; I'll kill you when I get out of here! STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM MY WIFE!

Alastor became enraged, "Shut up boy! You know nothing! If aren't strong enough to defy my son and come after me, then you are weaker than I thought!" He whacked Sirius in the eye with the butt of his staff and then turned around and smacked him with it again.

Sirius couldn't see anymore; he probably had lost his eye. Still his beast obeyed his orders.

"Please-" Sirius plead to his father, "My bond, you are hurting Saoirse-she's pre….."

"Kill him." Alastor said, " He is a coward. If he won't let his beast out at this point, I'm sick of his stubbornness."

For the second time in a week, Sirius was unable to save his wife. His vision was darkening, the guards were beating him and he no longer felt the pain, he could feel himself leaving his body, barely tied to it.

He felt a light full of colors descending on him and then, he felt peace.
