A frail boy sat at the back of a busy classroom full of other students laughing and joking, his eyes starting to feel heavy as the teacher walked in, silencing the class.
"Renan, wake up!" the old, balding teacher yelled as he stood in front of the class.
The small boy shot up as the teacher yelled, most of the students ignoring him and beginning to sit down.
"We've got a new student today, so be nice, alright!" the teacher scowled at the class.
Renan looked up and made eye contact with the new student as she walked in. Her black hair flowed like a river of ink, and her eyes pierced his like a knife.
"Everyone, welcome Lyra Vale," the teacher weakly gestured to her.
"Introduce yourself." The old man grumbles before slumping back down in his chair. He flips through papers, looking unamused.
"My name is Lyra. I run track and enjoy reading, that's about it, really." Her voice was monotone and calm, striking Renan with a strange feeling he couldn't recognize.
"Alright, sit wherever you want," the teacher said as he stood up and picked up chalk and began to write on the board.
Lyra sat down and the lesson continued as normal. Renan doodled on his paper whilst others took notes. Class finished, and a muscular man sauntered towards Renan with a grin on his face. He sat next to Renan and put his arm around his shoulders.
"Hey Darin," he smiled with glee.
"Ready for the physical assessment test?" Renan's face dropped instantly.
"That's today?" A distraught look crossed his face, and he rested on the desk once more.
"Come on, it'll be fun!" Darin picks him and drags him out of the room shortly followed by the others.
They reach the gym and see the gym teacher Mr Tanaka, a muscular Asian man with short black hair. The class was split by gender and taken outside to the track field.
"Arden, Dante, Darin, Kain, and Renan!" Mr. Tanaka's voice rang across the field, jolting everyone up as the group rushed towards the track.
"Three... two... one... GO!" Mr. Tanaka yelled out, and all of the men sprinted.
Arden and Kain both bolted down the track, leaving the others in the dust. Renan tried to run but awkwardly trailed behind Darin. After a good 10 minutes pass Renan stumbles across the finish line drenched in sweat while Darin seems not even slightly exhausted. Arden finished first and was sitting in the dirt, watching the girls.
"That's not fair at all," he mumbled as Lyra finished the mile in 4:24:15. A group of girls crowded around her showering her in praise but Lyra seems uninterested and watches the others run.Â
"Alright, push-ups!" Mr Tanaka shouted, and everyone dropped onto the floor.
Renan struggled to push himself up, and as fully extended his arms, he heard a loud clap noise. A student called Roman in front of him was launching off of the floor and clapping before he landed. Renan looked in awe and tried to do more push-ups but fell on his face. They finished, and the teacher patted Roman on the back and smiles slightly at him.
"sit u..." the teacher freezes looking up from his clipboard at a giant floating golden circle with strange designs inside of it glowing above them.
"What?" Arden looked up from his spot on the floor with a shocked look.
"Like in manga?" a girl in the back with hair covering her face mumbles as walls of light begins to encompasses them.Â
Renan awkwardly laughed as a bright golden light envelopes the whole class and vanished instantly.
