Warlocks often went on ghost-hunting expeditions at night, seldom bothering to turn on the lights. Mainly because if the lights were on, the intermittent flickering would only add to the spookiness. As time passed, everyone simply forgot the option of switching on the lights altogether.
Those warlocks holding fire-folders found themselves in rather awkward situations.
Naturally, to ward off the meddling of impish spirits, she had left her energy imprints on the light switches and electrical circuits. Should those little devils dare to touch them, they'd surely face dire consequences.
The warlocks expected the lights to start flashing any moment, yet after waiting for what seemed like ages, the anticipated eerie scene failed to materialize.
Unlike their chaotic spell-casting scenarios with yellow talismans fluttering all over, Jin Huan simply poured mineral water onto her hand and sprinkled it around. In the dimension invisible to ordinary mortals, thick wisps of blue smoke billowed wherever the water droplets landed.
Several impish spirits huddled together, murmuring among themselves.
"The electrical circuit's gone haywire!"
"Give it another go!" Barely had the words been spoken when the spirit that reached out got an electric shock!
After becoming ghosts, such things were supposed to hold no sway over them. Who would've thought something like this could happen in their afterlife!
That young girl leading the charge, at first they'd paid her no heed. But then, with a simple incantation like "Open Sesame", she'd shattered the boss's protective barrier, and now she'd made them get zapped. It was completely baffling!
Nevertheless, whether it made sense or not, the task at hand was to stop them from delving deeper into the building.
Just as the group ascended the stairs, a pallid-faced little boy abruptly appeared, staring at them with a sinister grin. Blood began seeping down his neck, and in the next instant, his head tumbled to the ground with a thud, rolling along like a ball.
"Come and play hide-and-seek with me. I'll send my head to find you!"
Everyone was driven to the brink of madness, for goodness' sake!
The warlocks, being somewhat seasoned, whipped out yellow talismans and copper coin swords, engaging in a fierce battle with the impish spirit.
Jin Huan, never one to seek the limelight, was content to leave such arduous tasks to those willing to take the lead. Leaning half against the wall, she resumed watching the animated cartoon she'd left unfinished in the car.
Patrick Star: "Hey, SpongeBob, let's go jellyfishing!"
SpongeBob SquarePants: "Sorry, not today. I've got school."
Patrick Star: "Well, what am I supposed to do if you're at school?"
SpongeBob SquarePants: "I don't know. What do you usually do when I'm not around?"
Patrick Star: "Wait for you to come back."
In the midst of the intense fray, the sudden sound of the cartoon dialogue seemed so out of place, utterly ruining the atmosphere. For a moment, everyone forgot what they'd come here for in the first place!
When Jin Huan noticed them pausing to look her way, she blinked in surprise. "Carry on," she said casually.
Everyone was like... well, they'd never been more speechless in their lives.
The battle raged on. Generally, when a child turned into a ghost, its spiritual power grew at a faster rate than that of an adult-turned-ghost. So, this malevolent spirit ranked among the most formidable ones in this building.
Suddenly, the phone screen froze. The once-five-bar signal indicator now showed a big, red cross.
Jin Huan furrowed her brow, clearly displeased. They could fight all they wanted, but why did it have to disrupt her cartoon-watching?
With the phone rendered useless, she slowly tucked it away and sauntered over. These warlocks were truly inept. With half a dozen of them, they still couldn't handle a single impish spirit.
"I'll take care of it," she said. Perhaps because of her effortless feat of breaking through the barrier earlier, the others couldn't gauge her true capabilities and instinctively stepped back.
Only the seemingly venerable warlock among them knitted his brows, a flicker of concern in his eyes. "Little girl, don't overexert yourself," he cautioned.
Jin Huan waved him off nonchalantly, signaling that it was all right.
She dipped her finger into the mineral water and traced the character for "bind" in the air. In a flash, the character glowed with a golden light and shot towards the impish spirit. Before it could even react, it was pinned down, unable to move an inch.
Jin Huan cast a disdainful glance at the spirit's head on the ground. "Ugh, hideous!" she muttered, giving it a kick. "Stay away from me!"
To her surprise, her kick was a bit too forceful, sending the head rolling down the stairs like a runaway ball, making a series of "thud-thud-thud" sounds as it disappeared from sight.
