Dad! What the fuck, what are you doing?
"That is not what it looks like Jasmine." He made excuses to escape what happened but I found it difficult to trust his words. I wanted to believe him but my conscience was not allowing me.
"Dad, I know you had your differences with Mom, but I believed you loved and cared for her so how can you do this to a woman you loved? Today is a special day for Mom and you are kissing another woman in our house, I'm disappointed in you, I should have known you were cheating on Mom with all the late nights claiming you were at work. You could not hold your sexual edge for just one day."
After speaking to him I went to my room feeling sorry for Mom. I decided to stay with my auntie who lived north of the city and left the next day.
"Hey J, I didn't see you after the funeral yesterday. Are you okay?"
"I am fine but something happened yesterday, I saw my dad kissing another woman in the house so I moved out to stay with my auntie till I'm done with high school."
"Am sorry J, did you see the woman who did that with your dad?"
"No, I didn't, that was the annoying part, when I was speaking with my dad I didn't realize the time she escaped from the other door but I noticed she was young because I heard them arguing and her voice was very familiar."
"J don't think about what happened and always know I am here for you, remember we promised to enjoy our last year in high school so let's not make any obstacle come our way. Let's go to class."
The year went by so fast, the joy of being a high school graduate was exceptional and I had my amazing friend Bela by my side.
Things didn't turn out how I wanted them but being a graduate with all the storms I faced was enough to be happy about. My grades were impressive so I got admitted into one of the prestigious universities in the country.
Since I was not on good terms with my dad, I went home with my auntie to seek my dad's support for college. My auntie did all the talking because I was still angry at him for what he did, he decided to help only if I came back home and apologized for disrespecting him. My pride didn't permit me to apologize because he didn't feel remorseful for what he did.
My aunt gave me her special gaze which made me think twice about what I was about to do so I decided to accept the deal. I apologized and told him I would come home after graduation.
After leaving the compound Auntie ruffled my hair saying "Jasmine you did great, you sacrificed your pride for your future. I'm proud of you."
"But Auntie I was insincere about the apology, I will never forgive him." She chuckled and that made me more confused.
It was graduation day and the feeling was great, the happiness could not be explained. I knew my dad wouldn't show up with all that had happened between us but deep down I wished he was around.
The certificates were being presented, I went up to the graduation stage to take mine with pride when I saw my dad entering the hall.
My mates taking pictures with their family and enjoying the moment made me a little jealous, so I walked around hoping to see my dad but unfortunately, I met somewhere else.
"Hi Crystal, congratulations on your graduation."
"Thank you Jasmine but I can't congratulate you because you are not my friend. I see you are moving around all alone, where is your family? Am guessing no one came."
"My dad is here and my auntie will arrive very soon so don't think I am alone."
She laughed, "Jasmine, you are funny, your dad came for me and not you. Have your dad attended any school program on your behalf?"
"Why will my dad come for your graduation and not mine? You are not making any sense."
"Jasmine if your dad came to see you graduate, where is he? He came for me and is gone so stop walking around trying to look for him."
"Bela, I don't understand what Crystal is saying. I know my dad and I have not been on a good term since the funeral so I will understand if she says he didn't come to the graduation to see me but why you?"
"Your father and I have been in love for the past 2 years, why do you think he visited me at the hospital? Why did you think he was coming home late? He was always with me and not your mom because I made him feel younger and more sexual. Your dad never loved your mom and she knew it, what she didn't know was that a beautiful girl in high school stole the heart of her husband."
"J please relax. Don't trust Crystal's words. She doesn't like you and would say anything to destroy your family."
I said to myself, that everything Crystal was saying was making sense but I refused to believe my dad would do that to my mom.
"Jasmine if you don't trust what I am saying, you can ask your dad after this. We are getting married soon so you will find out."
"Crystal, why say all this, J's mom loved us so why respect her?"
"Disrespect you say, Bela, I am just telling Jasmine the truth so she doesn't get shocked when she hears about our wedding. I am helping her here and before I forget, you are not your father's child Jasmine. I am sure you won't believe me so when your auntie arrives you can confirm, enjoy your life."
"J please relax and breathe. That is your auntie, ask her everything when she gets her. I am sure Crystal made all this up to ruin your day."
