Chapter 9 - Chapter 7: RPG Stuff(3)

After trading blows back and forth, the whole time the boss was trying to kite us instead of vice versa but we had it in a corner. I had a feeling it was going to teleport, no one knew it was going to teleport. It teleported away after we just caught up right to it. So I booked it in the direction it teleported. It began to reform its layer over its core.

There was this move in a video game that I remembered. Devil May Cry. Vergil does it all the time, judgment cut. When he gets to a certain health, stunlock, or both, he teleports away and spams judgment cut.

He draws his katana, slashes, draws it back in and repeats. Whenever he does a judgment cut, a flurry of slashes hits his enemies. Drawing from inspiration, I've done the same.

I copied his move. Bar for bar. His whole fucking flow. All I did was hold triangle. I kept slashing and then withdrawing my sword to its scabbard in quick succession. Trying to get rid of the layers of the titan's chest.

Suddenly it got easier to draw my sword in and out of my scabbard. I can do it more efficiently and faster now. I saw the notification of why quickdrawing became easier.

Abilities Unlocked:

Quickdraw: Quickly draw your sword out to slash distances away and then draw it back in your scabbard in quick succession.

I quickdrawed as many times as I could, chipping out his chest. The titan spent all its time, trying to form a shield to cover its core but I kept slashing it every time it did. I hit its core a couple of times before it could cover it.

The stony chest that once covered his core is now gone.

'NOW!' I yelled in comms.

"Magus Empowerment." Blinding light from the sky became over us as Prato incanted.

"FREYA'S LAST STRIKE!" Daniela yelled out, wings appeared in her back as well as a halo above her head flew up in the sky, and with perfect technique she threw her spear at the core.

"Impending stab."

"ARTEMIS SNIPE."

"Judgement cut."

"We did it, we won, finally," I said as we tried to recollect ourselves. I was so tired I just sat on the ground that was covered in bark and muddy dirt. The titan's body crumbled back into the ground. The titan's lifeless core shattered. Shards scattered around the ground. "Shit took forever to die. Annoying ass boss that runs and spams projectiles."

Let's see my notifications and see all the upgrades I got.

(Forest Giant Slained(Level 25))

(EXP Rewarded)

(User is now level 5)

(225 Free stat points awarded)

Nice, I got to level 5 but damn no wonder the boss was annoying. It was level 25. The stats it had must've been a crap ton. Alright, the quest didn't specify when the portal would open.

My eyes widened. Wait where's the notification of the quest complete? Our quest should've been completed. I didn't see the notifications of us slaying the forest giant. I kept scrolling through the notifications up and down to make sure I wasn't tripping and I wasn't. I don't see anything about the notification. What does that mean? I swear we killed it. I'm pretty sure we-

I looked up at the group and I saw the core. It's not shattered anymore. It somehow brought itself back together. I then checked the quest progression and it still didn't say it was completed. It was updated.

Quest Update: (Slay the evolving Forest Titan)

Reward: (Portal back to your world)

"WAIT DON'T GO NEAR THE CORE," I yelled while running towards the group. "IT'S STILL ALI-"

As soon as I yelled the core lit up green. Brightly flashing, blinding all of us until it stopped and stayed lit. Aw, my fucking eyes. I kept blinking and rubbing my eyes to get my vision back. I got my vision back and saw the others doing the same. Prado was on the floor, with both hands covering her eyes wailing in pain. Dani was completely knocked out as she was the one closer to it than everybody else. Daniela easily recovered as she turned around before the light blinded us. Alice was still next to me, knocked out from the previous round. Once it stopped flashing all of the vegetation and the dirt began to get sucked up by the core like it's a black hole.

After a few minutes, the core stopped absorbing the vegetation and the dirt and began to create its body. Instead of the huge and gigantic body that we slain, the body transforms into something humanoid. Completely the same design but the only difference now is that the giant is now a miniature of its previous body. Now only towering 10 feet. Still taller than every human in existence but a minion compared to its original body.

Once finished with his transformation, it looked up with his arm out. With the core inside his head instead of his chest looked toward the direction of the sun. While it looked at the sun, its core glowed green until it couldn't glow anymore and proceeded to make a weird, robotic scream. The scream destroyed the sound barriers and every one of us covered our ears to protect our eardrums from shattering.

The wind blew everywhere away from the boss. Trees and bark were flying everywhere, the floor it was standing on went deeper into the ground, and the mana in the area became denser with its unleashed aura. The green light hovering over its body like a flame began to slowly change color to a dark cyan with the tip of the flame brown.

Mana started to shape around the core. Covering the core in a green box. A symbol formed on the front side of the box and spun around to form another one until all the sides had a symbol. It formed a phylactery with its core inside to protect it. It then shrinks the phylactery and forms its head over it to cover it. His face and body are shaped and resemble a tree dryad. His skin color was not green like a traditional dryad in stories but his aura became a deep dark cyan. It seems as if it were cursed. He opened his eyes and it glowed green in the dark. He smiled at me.
