Chapter 1 - Prologue

"I will return."

It was just a glimpse of a scene—a man donned in futuristic clothing that gleamed with advanced technology.

He stood tall, with his hands grasped behind his back. Behind him stood a few more just like them, with some wiping tears from their eyes.

After the first phrase, the man said a few more phrases, words that became impossible to comprehend. But the words only served to make the people cry even more.

Finishing his speech, he turned around and smiled. A smile filled with warmth and gratitude. But it was also a smile that signified his departure.

His figure started to glow, making him more transparent by the second. It was clear that he was going somewhere, but where?

At the last second, the man clutched his head, seemingly struck with an unbearable pain. Someone from the crowd rushed to his aid, but the man only waved him off.

He yelled towards the sky as the magnificent glow slowly consumed him.

And just like that, in the midst of sobbing and farewells, the man was gone

.…

Suddenly, a boy shot upright on the bed, gasping for air. As if his mind was splitting apart, he clutched his head in agony and began wincing in pain.

"Why does my head hurt so much?!"

But saying how he felt didn't help at all, so the boy began to take in deep breaths of air, trying to calm down his current state. As the pain started to subside, memories from an unknown source began filling his mind, along with other memories...memories of his past life.

"So, I've been reincarnated huh... unbelievable"

Murmuring to himself, Wei Han looked down on his hands and checked out his current situation. It seems like he was now a 16-17 year old teenager who was in the middle of his puberty.

However, Wei Han didn't care as much, as his attention was captured by the unusual sight of his surroundings. He seemed to be in a room made of cobblestone, with a horrible looking painting of what he could only assume to be himself as the only decoration.

'Is this the middle ages or something? Why does everything look so ancient'

Still in shock, Wei Han could only ponder upon his situation as the last of his memories took root in his mind. To begin with his past life, Wei Han was an accomplished Biotechnologist at the tender age of 42, especially in the fields of genetic and biomolecular engineering. But truth be said, he was familiar with all if not most fields of biotechnology. His accomplishments were more lowkey, and he didn't like showing his face to the public.

Nevertheless, he was now in the body of a young boy named Ryder Bloodsworthe, a son of the noble Bloodsworthe family. In Ryder's current situation, he was neither the eldest son nor the youngest son of his 6 brothers and 4 sisters, he was somewhere along the middle thus attracting little attention. Furthermore, they were all born to the same mother, meaning they should have no conflict right?

According to the final memories Ryder was given from the previous body's owner, the world he lived in, Krynn, was currently in dire straits as demons from another world had invaded and already taken over 30% of the world.

But what Ryder found weird was that he knew little to nothing else besides the fact that the nobility was split into different levels, from Baron being the lowest, and then Viscount, Earl, Marquess, Duke, and then King as the highest in ascending order. From what he currently knew, his dad, William Bloodsworthe, was one of the three Dukes in the continent he lived in. But he neither knew what his continent was or if there was any more out there.

"Interesting… but I never remembered dying?"

Ryder was still a little confused. Sure, he had touched upon the whole reincarnation fiasco sometime during his past life, but he truly believed in it.

Furthermore, doesn't one need to die before being reincarnated? In his last memories from his previous life, he remembered delivering a lecture to a prestigious university, before… before what?

Ryder banged his head with his fist once, then twice, then three times, but nothing seemed to bring about what happened after the lecture.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door which disrupted Ryder's train of thoughts. It was a light knock, which he assumed to be a respectful gesture.

"Come in."

Curious but wary, Ryder stood up to be prepared but was met with the sight of a harmless maid, who if anything, looked rather ordinary with her plain black hair and lack of distinct facial features.

'Is that my maid?' He thought.

If it was his maid, then why didn't he know her name? Was she newly appointed, or was the former host just a dimwit who knew absolutely nothing.

He watched the maid walk towards him with a tray of food: a loaf of bread and a bowl of porridge.

"That's it?"

Ryder was bewildered. He was the son of a Duke for crying out loud! Yet, the maid only tilted her head to a perfect 45 degrees, confused about what her young master was surprised about.

Seeing as the maid was serious, Ryder soon accepted the food and gobbled it down, surprised to discover that he was more hungry than he thought. After finishing, he gave his empty bowl to the maid who then proceeded to walk towards the door.

It was a short interaction, which he preferred anyway. He was now full, and a full belly would help him think better.

He was still a little hung up upon his situation, as he never wanted to reincarnate. He was leading a successful life and already had multiple achievements under his name.

Yet now, he was stuck in an unfamiliar room sitting in an unfamiliar bed. Ryder sighed, he missed his cozy lab and modern technology.

A couple of more days had passed since and Ryder had become more accustomed to his situation.

He was, after all, a scientist in his early 40's. Encountering many unexpected situations made him someone who could easily adapt and overcome.

Using his time wisely, he came up with things to do in this new world, and obtaining information was his top priority.

And the only person who he could confide in was his maid.

One day, after she delivered his food like usual, he prevented her from leaving.

"Wait."

The maid stopped at his command and rotated her body to face him, seemingly ready to face whatever Ryder was going to say to her.

"Yes, master?"

Ryder was a little caught off guard by how she just addressed him. Coming from a modern world, he was not used to such titles, especially from someone almost half his age.

It was a thing he could only get used to eventually. He hesitated a little before asking:

"Is there a library?"

Books were a crucial need to him if he were to gain more information, and where else could he get books if not in a library?

However, his question also brought a bit of a shock. The surprise was evident on the maid's face as her normally emotionless eyes widened a bit. But as a professional, she calmed down immediately and spoke out in her equally emotionless voice.

"Yes, there is one. The library is on the second floor, young master will be able to find it once he sees two giant, black doors."

"Okay, thank you."

The maid's face was colored with a surprise yet again, obviously not expecting the thanks. But she quickly bowed to excuse herself and walked out the door.

Now, with just Ryder left in the room, he quickly started coming up with plans for the future. So, the number one thing Ryder was wary of as of right now would be the demons, as they have already ransacked a good portion of the world. But he didn't know how strong they were, nor did he know what humans did to defend themselves. He was hoping to visit the library to gather more knowledge that he severely lacked. But before that...

'Do we have any superpowers?'
