Chapter 13 - The Coerced

Karl sat on a bench, lost in thought. Suddenly, he saw Sasha and Simon rushing out of the school. Karl called out, "Sasha, where are you going?"

A sly smile spread across Simon's face as he muttered, "What's that corrupt bastard doing here?" Sasha replied to Simon in a low voice, "He is trying to change so please shut up."

Sasha replied to Karl, "I have a little work to do before sitting in the driver's seat." With that, Sasha and Simon hurried off.

As they drove away, Simon said, "Sasha, all the cameras in the chem lab were broken two days before the blast." Sasha's eyes narrowed, "Something is suspicious."

They arrived at Mr. Johnson's house, a small, unassuming building. Sasha and Simon got out of the car and took a glance at the house.

Meanwhile, Karl decided to visit Yuno, who had been admitted to the hospital. Karl took a taxi and arrived at the hospital.

At the counter, Karl said, "I'm here to visit Yuno Wilof." The attendant asked for his ID card and, after a glance, said, "Go to room 45."

As Karl approached the room, Amelia stepped out of the shadows, blocking his path. She said, "Karl please go back. If Yuno sees you, it will most likely trigger another PTSD episode in Yuno."

Karl's expression darkened, but Amelia's words struck a chord. He didn't want to cause Yuno any more harm. With a heavy sigh, Karl turned to leave. "Fine, I'll go. But tell Yuno... tell her I was here, and I'll come back when it's safe for her."

Amelia's expression softened slightly, and she nodded. "I'll tell her, Karl. But please, for Yuno's sake, stay away for now."

Karl nodded curtly and walked away, disappearing into the hospital's bustling corridors. Amelia watched him go, a mixture of relief and concern etched on her face.

As Simon and Sasha walked towards the door, they knocked and pressed the doorbell several times. No one opened the door. Simon said, "Maybe Johnson is not home." Sasha replied, "I don't believe it. He is a bachelor. Where would he go at this time? "

He said, "That doesn't even makes sense."

She turned to Simon and said, "Break the door." Simon's eyes widened in surprise, "Are you serious?" Sasha's expression was resolute, "Yes."

Simon started to kick the door, but it didn't budge. He then shot the lock and kicked the door open. As they entered, a person emerged from the shadows, wielding a baseball bat and charging towards them. The bat came crashing down, striking Simon on the legs, and he fell to the ground.

Serge, who was patrolling the streets in his police car. Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of something in the rearview mirror. His eyes locked onto the reflection, and his heart sank.

The frail, dirt-encrusted child stared back, its eyes black as coal. Serge's skin crawled as the child's mouth twisted into a macabre grin. The air seemed to thicken, heavy with malevolence. Serge's breath caught in his throat as the child's eyes seemed to bore into his soul.

The child's voice sent chills down Serge's spine. "It all happened because of you." Serge's eyes widened in terror as he yelled, "Get out!"

Suddenly, Karl appeared on the road, walking back from the hospital. Serge's eyes locked onto Karl, and in a split second, he turned the steering wheel. Karl narrowly escaped, with only a hair's breadth between him and the car and he fell. Serge's car crashed into a pole, the impact sending shards of glass flying everywhere.

Sasha and Simon stood panting, their confrontation with Johnson leaving them battered. Sasha clutched her wrist, wincing in pain.

Simon, meanwhile, grasped his knee, his face contorted in discomfort. "Ow, This bastard still has life in him" he muttered, hobbling slightly. Despite their injuries, they exchanged a determined glance, their resolve to uncover the truth unshaken.

Sasha pulled out the person's wallet and checked their ID. "It's Mr. Johnson," Sasha said, her eyes narrowing.

Sasha's gaze bore into Johnson's. "Why did you blow up the lab building?" Johnson wailed, "I did nothing!" Simon raised an eyebrow. "Why are you acting like this?" Sasha's voice was calm, but firm. "Tell the truth, and we'll help you." Johnson's voice trembled. "I was forced..."

Serge emerged from his car, apologizing profusely as he helped Karl to his feet. Karl stood, his face red with anger, "You bloody idiot, you nearly killed me, bastard!"

Serge repeated his apology, looking genuinely remorseful. Karl glanced at the damaged car and joked, "C*nt you got bad luck with cars, mate." Serge managed a weak smile, relieved that Karl was unharmed. As Karl dusted himself off, Serge asked if he was okay. Karl nodded, still visibly shaken. "What's wrong with you, man? You were driving like a maniac!"

Sasha pressed Johnson for answers. "Who were they?" she demanded. Johnson wailed, "I don't know! I received a phone call..."

Just then, Sasha's phone rang, sending a chill down her spine. She and Simon exchanged a fearful glance. Sasha hesitated before answering, her voice barely above a whisper. "Hello?"

Relief washed over her face as she realized it was the forensic team on the line. "It was a small bomb," the team explained. "The blast reacted with the lab's chemicals, specifically the combination of hydrogen peroxide and acetone, causing the explosion."

Chief Rayner sat in his office at the Mary Hill station, watching TV as he waited for the latest updates on the lab explosion. His phone rang, breaking the silence. Rayner let it ring for a few moments, annoyed at the interruption. Finally, he picked up, growling, "Who is this bloody bastard?"

On the other end of the line, a man shrouded in shadows spoke in a low, menacing tone. "You forgot, Rayner." A chill ran down Rayner's spine as fear crept into his eyes. He quickly rose from his chair, his demeanour changing from annoyance to subservience. "Sorry, sir. I didn't know it was you."

The man's voice was laced with venom. "It's explainable. You promised to give Bull and us protection from the police." Rayner's voice trembled as he protested, "I didn't give any orders. It must have been Govan police or someone else."

The man's tone turned icy. "Lies, Rayner. It was Mary Hill police." Rayner's eyes darted around the room as he asked, "Who were they?" The man's response sent a shiver down Rayner's spine. "You know, because you gave the orders."

Rayner's voice cracked as he denied the accusation. "I didn't, but—" The man cut him off, his voice rising in anger. "Shut up! We've had enough of your broken promises. You and the entire Mary Hill police department will be hunted by us. We're done with you."

The line went dead as the man hung up, leaving Rayner standing alone, his phone still clutched in his hand, and a look of terror etched on his face.
