With a resounding crash, the auditorium doors burst open, zombies flooding in. Liu Bin, narrowly escaping by seconds, had avoided imminent doom.
At the doorway, illuminated by the moonlight, a grotesque figure with an uneven arm silhouette appeared, its low growl chilling to the bone.
Having navigated past the auditorium, Liu Bin faced the library, with only three sluggishly moving zombies between him and his destination. These zombies, swirling like leaves in the wind, posed a tricky obstacle. Despite their aimless wandering, they were within sight of each other, ready to provide mutual support if disturbed.
The darkness complicating his visibility, Liu Bin knew that a direct rush could provoke a skirmish, potentially drawing more zombies from the vicinity. Moreover, the library was likely a refuge for survivors, given its size and numerous rooms. Disturbing the zombies could jeopardize anyone hiding inside, including his girlfriend, Li Wei, who he recalled was on duty on the second floor.
Strategizing, Liu Bin considered his options. These zombies didn't seem coordinated, and if he could eliminate one from a distance, it might clear a path to the library.
Remembering his effective use of a fire extinguisher earlier, he searched for anything similar. Feeling around in the dark, his hand brushed against something solidly square— a brick.
"Perfect," Liu Bin chuckled to himself, knowing well the efficacy of bricks in combat situations.
With the zombies within his limited sight despite the darkness, he picked his target—the slowest and most isolated one to his right. Focusing intently, he took aim and threw the brick with precision.
The zombie collapsed with a thud. The others paused, momentarily confused, then resumed their aimless drifting. Seizing this moment of distraction, Liu Bin moved quickly, careful not to make any noise. However, the heavy armor still made a faint sound, attracting the attention of another zombie.
"No time to be stealthy now," Liu Bin thought as he rushed forward, dispatching the distracted zombie with a swift baton strike to the head.
The remaining zombie, now alerted, turned toward Liu Bin. With no hesitation, Liu Bin charged, using his momentum to deliver a crushing blow to the zombie's head.
With the path now clear, Liu Bin sprinted to the library entrance. He managed to secure the door just as several more zombies converged on it, pounding against the glass with hungry ferocity.
"Safe for now," Liu Bin muttered, catching his breath. He then proceeded upstairs, flashlight in hand, cautious of attracting any more attention.
Reaching the second floor, he briefly illuminated the corridor with his flashlight before quickly turning it off, fearing it might draw out more zombies.
"Now, to find Li Wei and ensure her safety," Liu Bin thought as he navigated the darkened library, ready for whatever lay ahead.
