Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 Biased towards Lu Nianxin

A smile instantly overflowed in her eyes, and the suspended worry in her heart temporarily eased.

Wen Tang opened the folder and searched through it.

"Is this what you were looking to retrieve?" she asked Cao Yinqiong, after restoring the original records from the computer's history on the day it crashed.

Cao Yinqiong bent down and leaned in close to the computer screen to inspect the content.

Patient name: Jiang Tingting, Age: 38...

She scrolled down the mouse a bit, and found dozens of pages of prescription records and admission details. Cao Yinqiong pulled back her arm, her eyes unable to hide a smile, "This is exactly what I'm looking for."

Wen Tang propped herself up on the desk and stood up, "That's good."

She was not someone who liked to casually accept favors from others, nor did she like to trouble others.

During her hospital stay, Cao Yinqiong had been extremely kind to her; now she felt like she had repaid the favor.

The admiration in the young nurse's eyes also grew stronger following this.

She wanted to escort Wen Tang back to her room, but Cao Yinqiong stopped her, "You go on with your duties; I'll take Miss Wen back myself."

The nurse politely excused herself from the room.

Cao Yinqiong supported Wen Tang's arm from the side as they walked towards the patient room.

They had barely sat down for a moment when they heard the sound of high heels clattering on the floor outside.

Especially for Wen Tang, the sound was very familiar.

After spending a few years under Pei Heyan, she could accurately identify people by the sound of their approach.

Lu Nianxin's character was just as flamboyant as the sound of her footsteps.

She was a highlight wherever she went; even without the aura of a celebrity, passersby couldn't help but turn their gaze toward the crisp sound of her heels.

"Xiao Tang, how are you feeling now?" Lu Nianxin asked as she entered the room, arm in arm with Pei Heyan.

Wen Tang looked up at them.

The clothes Pei Heyan wore were identical to what she had seen him wear on television.

Understated, composed, yet exuding luxury.

Cao Yinqiong stood beside the bed and glanced at Pei Heyan, then took note of Lu Nianxin.

A woman's intuition told her that the hostility in Lu Nianxin's eyes was quite evident.

It seemed that the visitor did not come with good intentions.

Pei Heyan's eyes met Wen Tang's for a moment, his demeanor calm and collected as his gaze settled on her legs.

He didn't speak, nor did he inquire.

Compared to Lu Nianxin's enthusiasm, he appeared indifferent to the whole affair.

Lu Nianxin, with Pei Heyan in tow, sat down beside the bed, "Sorry, I was just in the middle of an interview with Brother He Yan and we ran late. How did the surgery go? Was it smooth?"

Wen Tang was about to speak, but Cao Yinqiong beat her to it, "The surgery was a success, but the patient has exhausted a lot of energy and needs rest. It's not advisable to overexert, she needs quiet recuperation."

Lu Nianxin's expression soured, "Even coming to visit a patient means having to listen to your doctor's instructions. Perhaps you should just stick to your own duties."

As she finished speaking, Lu Nianxin lifted the blanket, and upon seeing that the hospital gown was without any bloodstains, clean and tidy, she wondered aloud, "Hmm, which leg was injured again?"

She reached out to touch it.

Wen Tang winced and involuntarily shrank back a little.

Pei Heyan's brows inadvertently furrowed as well.

Lu Nianxin wanted to roll up her pants to check, but Cao Yinqiong grabbed her wrist first.

Lu Nianxin's expression turned ugly as she looked towards her. Cao Yinqiong's lips parted slightly and she said, "Miss Wen has a wound on her leg, what you're doing is not conducive to the healing of the wound."

"And another thing, I remember suggesting at our last encounter that it's best to visit the patient in the morning, as the afternoon is Miss Wen's rest time. Your actions could disrupt her recovery," Cao Yinqiong said without changing her expression.

Lu Nianxin forcefully pulled her arm back, rubbed her wrist, and held it up in front of Pei Heyan, "Look, even a doctor dares to bully me, she even pinched my wrist red."

She plaintively spoke to Pei Heyan, "Is sincerely coming to visit a patient also a mistake?"

"Brother He Yan, won't you say something?"

Her calling him "brother" over and over again made Wen Tang feel inexplicably uncomfortable.

Even after a long time, she still couldn't get used to it.

"It's not your fault, it's hers," Pei Heyan spoke in a low voice.

Wen Tang slightly raised her eyes to look at him, her heart feeling sour.

The man directed his gaze at Cao Yinqiong and, without a proper scolding, it was more terrifying than being reprimanded by the hospital director in front of many medical staff.

"As medical staff, as friends who come to visit the patient, I don't think it's up to a doctor to decide when we should visit," Pei Heyan's words carried a powerful sense of oppression, like adding a chill to the surroundings, his back turning cold.

"Or is it now part of a doctor's duty not only to save lives and treat illnesses but also to meddle in other people's family affairs?" he said coldly.

Lu Nianxin's heart felt much more at ease.

But this Pei Heyan was someone even she dared not approach.

Wen Tang, afraid of implicating Cao Yinqiong, cleared her throat, "The computer is fixed, go see if there's anything else missing inside."

Cao Yinqiong gave her a quick glance and immediately understood the hint.

More than that, she found it ridiculous.

A woman who couldn't even protect herself was actually paranoid about severing ties with her, fearing that she would be implicated.

Such a foolish woman was truly rare to see.

But while others might be afraid of Pei Heyan, she wasn't.

"This is the truth. I'm an outsider with no interest in meddling in these matters, just offering some friendly advice," Cao Yinqiong said, her concern not fear, but rather worry about Wen Tang being adversely affected by getting involved.

Before leaving, Cao Yinqiong didn't forget to remind Wen Tang, not so subtly, "You just had surgery today, if you feel tired, rest for a while. Aunt Zhang will come later."

Wen Tang acknowledged this.

Lu Nianxin's eyes shifted.

Aunt Zhang?

The corners of her mouth instantly curled up.

As soon as Cao Yinqiong left, she took the initiative to cling to Pei Heyan's arm and said nostalgically, "Brother He Yan, you are really kind to the employees in the company. I feel that after we get married, you will definitely be a good father!"

Pei Heyan remained unmoved, his words piercing Wen Tang's ears.

He probably also wanted to have a child with Lu Nianxin, right?

During the many years she had been with Pei Heyan, he had never had this thought; he would even have people regularly send her medicine to prevent any chance of conception.

"When the time comes, our family of three living together every day, with a few more aunts to help out, life would indeed be complete," Lu Nianxin said, gesticulating while her eyes shone with longing. "Oh, that's not right!"

"It shouldn't just be the three of us; one child is too few. I think with our good conditions, we could definitely have more babies, send them abroad for further studies," Lu Nianxin outlined methodically.

Each word struck Wen Tang right in the heart.

It hurt—her heart was bleeding.

But reality had shown her more than once that her relationship with Pei Heyan was not legitimate, and even more so, it was something she was willing to endure.
