"why didn't you come for me "
"I know that with everything that has happened, you wouldn't want to see me."
"But I was seriously injured. Isn't that enough to set aside everything that has happened and come see me?" I can't believe,I am still hung up on David,I am so pathetic.
I stare out the window in a daze. I have been here for more than 24 hours, just staring into space and wondering if David will walk into the room to ask me how I'm doing instead of the nurse, Denise.
Denise is sweet and loving. She makes sure that I am comfortable and tries many ways to distract me from my horrible breakup. I appreciate her efforts a lot; not many people can do what she is doing. I know it is not personal because I am a total stranger to her. I can tell that it is part of her nature, which makes her lovable.
I try my best not to look like a product of a bad breakup when she is around so she doesn't get worried. I have heard stories from her about how a girl committed suicide because her boyfriend broke up with her and other horrible tales. Multiple catfights have broken out during her shifts because of relationships—jealous confrontations ,fistfights. So, she is a bit worried and thinks that if David comes, his ex might follow and cause a scene.
"I really like you, Alexia, which means when holding that boyfriend stealer back, I might hurt her by accident," she jokes, putting air quotes around the word "accident."
For a fleeting moment, I sit up and laugh at her sense of humor before I realize it dawns on me . I keep wondering if David will ever show up, but I fail to consider what I will do if he actually comes.
Denise walks into the room humming the song "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran. She drops a few things on the table before walking towards me with a smile.
"I have news."
"Which one would you like to hear first?" she asks, her wide smile filling me with so much positive energy that I can't help but laugh.
"Hmm, let me think. I'd like to hear the bad news first, so you can cheer me up with the good news," I say after some thought. I don't actually know what the bad news is, but I just hope the good news will make me feel better.
"Well, the bad news is that you're going to be discharged," she says solemnly, as if she's telling me my puppy has passed away.
"How is that bad news again?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. I have been cooped up in this hospital bed for hours, and this is not the best place for a girl to get over a breakup. In fact, it's the worst.
Aside from Denise, the only things keeping me company are the cold, distant four corners of white walls. I haven't told anybody about my accident, and considering that neither my best friend nor her family has barged into my room, it's pretty clear that David hasn't told them either.
"I can't believe you want to get rid of me so easily," Denise says with a dramatic sigh. I roll my eyes and laugh at her antics, which I have come to love.
"Don't worry, we will still be friends outside these hospital walls, Denise."
"Who else will I get juicy hospital gossip from?" I say with a laugh. She joins me before giving me a hug.
"I hope you mean that, Alex," she says with a pout before she starts checking my vital signs. She then removes my IV line and helps me out of my hospital gown, bringing me fresh clothes and a small bag with my belongings.
"So what is the good news?" I ask as she fills out paperwork that must be my discharge form.
"I'm not telling you yet, so don't bother asking," she replies with a cackle, doing her best evil witch impression, while I groan.
I try standing to go towards and pressure her to tell me the supposed good news, when she appears beside me in an instant, pushing me back on the bed.
"Hey, hey, hey, you have to take it easy"she says practical tucking me back into bed .
"I am discharged, Denise; you don't have to smother me anymore, "I remind her but she shakes her head defiantly .
"You have signed the paper yet, remember?"she says In a sing-song voice, holding the paper and shaking it in front of me .
"So you are not going let me sign it , isn't that like illegal or something? g"I asked , trying to grab it without getting out of bed because her grip earlier was so strong. I had learned my lesson and didn't need her to force me back again.
"I am not withholding you from signing. I just want to explain your condition to you before you sign. okay, "she says, calmly dropping the papers far away from me .
"Fine, "I say with a huff, making her smile .
"The doctors said you have to rest for the rest of the day," she said, staring at me sternly like a teacher passing an important message to her students, making me nod like a five-year-old.
"We have discharged you but you have to understand that you fainted due to stress that caused your blood pressure to drop. Don't worry, your vitals are stable now, and we have run other tests to see and rule out any other underlying conditions.. " Denise pauses for a second, looking at me intently; I nod, waiting for her to continue.
"Now make sure you get plenty rest ,eat small meals and stay hydrated. Avoid strenuous activities and don't get in to trouble , seriously avoid stressful situation so that means stay away from your ex and his crazy bitch "
"But if you see her don't forget to give her a punch from me "she say giving the air an upper hook .
"Don't worry about that I am planning on staying far away from him as well as Anastasia, so that punch will have to be delivered from someone one else" I say with laugh to hide the little resentment I have for them, they were making me leave everything.
"Now for the good news "
