Chapter 70 - Team Rocket’s Second-in-Command! [70]

The airship made its way to Island Four.

Luo Yuan sat back on the sofa, his mind slipping into focus.

"System, initiate the draw!"

He was cashing in on the lottery chance he'd earned from defeating Erika.

[Drawing… please wait…]

The system's familiar voice chimed.

"I hope this isn't another type affinity…." Luo Yuan muttered, thinking back to the Psychic Affinity he'd drawn before. Useful, sure, but a Grass Affinity? That'd be practically useless without a Grass-type Pokémon on his team.

[Draw complete… Congratulations, host has obtained 'Viridian Power.']

Viridian Power: Grants the ability to communicate with Pokémon and heal their injuries.

Instead of a type affinity, it was the power of Viridian. This was the second special ability he'd acquired, following his psychic powers.

"Viridian Power…"

Luo Yuan knew this ability well. In the Pokémon Adventures manga, it was a rare gift found only in a select few, enabling them to communicate with and heal Pokémon. Trainers like Lance, Yellow, and even Giovanni himself possessed this gift in the manga.

"Though, in reality, I've never heard of Lance or Giovanni possessing any special abilities," Luo Yuan pondered.

As one of Kanto's Elite Four, Lance's every action was under scrutiny. If he'd had this ability, Rocket would surely have gathered information on it.

As far as Luo Yuan knew, there was no trace of Viridian Power within Team Rocket or among any prominent trainers in this world.

Which meant he might be the sole person in this world with such a power.

"The only Viridian Power user, huh…"

He focused, activating Viridian Power and attempting to connect with his Gengar, who was currently absorbed in a ghost story book beside him.

Almost instantly, he could feel Gengar's emotions.

"Amused, intrigued… Gengar's putting itself in the story, isn't it?"

It was a fascinating new experience. Before, he could communicate with his Pokémon through psychic abilities, but this was different—Viridian Power allowed him to sense the complex spectrum of his Pokémon's emotions.

Not to mention its healing potential.

"This draw was a win."

Luo Yuan was pleased. With Viridian Power, earning 3D's trust would be a breeze. And with its healing capabilities, he could treat minor injuries himself without needing a Pokémon Center.

"Luo Yuan, we're approaching Island Four!"

Matori's voice snapped him back to the present.

Through the airship's windows, he could see Island Four emerging beneath the clouds.

"How do you want to proceed? Should we land first, or…?" Matori asked.

"No need. I can handle this alone. Just cover for me. If things go sideways, then you step in," Luo Yuan replied, strapping on his mask and tucking Gengar, still clutching its book, back into his shadow.

He handed the memorized prison blueprint to Sabrina.

Opening the hatch, he leaned into the wind and stepped forward, letting gravity take over as he jumped.

"Luo Yuan!" Matori called out, startled.

She rushed to the hatch and poked her head out, only to see Luo Yuan falling, his arm raised in a confident thumbs-up.

Matori's worry hadn't even begun to set in before a flash of light appeared.

Luo Yuan's Dragapult materialized above him, catching his shoulders in its claws and descending gracefully towards the police station below.

"… Phew." Matori exhaled, her concerns easing.

This guy… he'll give me a heart attack one of these days…

She glanced over at Sabrina, who looked entirely unfazed.

"You weren't worried about Luo Yuan at all, were you?" Matori asked.

Sabrina looked puzzled. "Worried? Why would I be? Luo Yuan wouldn't jump unless he was confident. Besides, his psychic power is nearly on par with mine; he could easily hover mid-air if he had to."

Matori: "...."

Right. How could I forget that these two are playing by a different rulebook.

Island Four Police Station

Inspectors from the Kanto League were stationed at the police precinct, guarding the captured Rocket members from Island Five.

The League inspectors were in high spirits.

Under the command of Elite Four member Lorelei, they'd achieved a significant victory: they'd completely dismantled a Rocket base.

After years of lackluster efforts against Team Rocket, this was a morale boost for the inspectors.

Now, with Lorelei pressing the attack, hopes were high.

"If we keep this up, we might be able to drive Team Rocket out of the Sevii Islands entirely!"

For years, the inspectors had faced criticism for their inefficacy in dealing with Rocket's growing influence in Kanto.

Now, at last, they had a chance to turn the tables.

Just as visions of glory danced in their heads, a thunderous explosion shattered the silence.

The blast from outside the precinct left the inspectors momentarily stunned, ears ringing from the force of the shockwave.

"What happened?!"

Even with their training, the inspectors were briefly disoriented.

"Stay calm! We're under attack. Follow the emergency protocol!" a senior inspector barked.

At his command, the inspectors quickly regained their composure, releasing their Pokémon and splitting into groups—one to guard the cells, the rest to secure the precinct's perimeter.

Outside…

The inspectors emerged to see their unconscious guards sprawled across the ground—and a figure they recognized all too well.

Clad head to toe in black armor and a dark mask, standing atop a floating Dragapult, he hovered menacingly in midair.

"That outfit… it's the Tech Hunter!"

"What's he doing here?"

After the St. Anne incident, the League had circulated the Tech Hunter's profile to every inspector in Kanto.

So they recognized him immediately—the powerful Hunter who had recently crossed from Hoenn to Kanto, and someone capable of going toe-to-toe with the Elite Four.

But why was he here?

Last they'd heard, he was in Vermilion City; how had he suddenly shown up in the Sevii Islands?

Luo Yuan surveyed the inspectors below, noting their unease with satisfaction.

Beneath his mask, he smirked as his voice, deepened by a voice modulator, rang out:

"Release the Rocket members you're holding."

"!!"

Hearing this, the inspectors froze, an unsettling realization dawning on them.

Could it be… that the Tech Hunter was working with Team Rocket?
