Chapter 2 - I Don’t Want to Be a Heroic Spirit [2]

Under a clear sky, a few fluffy white clouds drifted lazily by.

A little sparrow flapped its wings, enjoying the carefree freedom of flight.

Until something suddenly appeared in its path—something that had no business floating around the open sky.

The poor bird didn't even have time to react before it crashed right into this strange object, and together, they plummeted toward the ground.

---

When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a freefall, rapidly closing in on the earth—or rather, experiencing an unsupervised bungee jump with no ropes.

Yet, somehow, I wasn't really surprised.

The moment Da Vinci had said, "It's kind of like Spiritron Transfer," I'd already expected things to take a turn like this.

The "girl" felt the wind rushing past her ears, clouds wrapping around her, with endless green stretching below, indicating that she was likely falling toward a dense forest.

At least she wouldn't have to worry about landing in a crowded area and making headlines the next day.

—That was the "girl's" last thought before hitting the ground.

Thick tree branches provided some resistance, though not enough; despite snapping countless branches thicker than her arm, she still left a sizable crater when she finally crashed.

Painful? Oh, very much so. Each branch felt heavier than a whip lashing against her body.

But… it was just pain, nothing more.

If it had been anyone else falling from that height, they'd likely be reduced to a messy pulp. But the "girl" could tell that her new body wasn't too badly damaged… at least, she could still move.

In that moment, she understood—she wasn't her old self anymore.

Instead of immediately standing and crawling out of the pit, she carefully opened her hand.

Nestled in her palm, a little sparrow lay unconscious. Thanks to her protective grip, the bird was unharmed.

"Sorry, sorry, did I drag you into this?"

Uncertain if the commotion would attract other creatures, she hurried away, gently setting the unconscious sparrow down by a tree before sitting nearby.

Now, she was itching to know which Servant she had become.

A familiar light screen appeared before her, but instead of Da Vinci and Mash, this time it displayed stats, just like in the game.

Baobhan Sith, or Fairy Knight Tristan… affectionately called "Fairy Tristan."

If she recalled correctly, Baobhan Sith was her first four-star Archer, one she'd even given a Grail to boost to level 90.

Even though she later pulled a five-star Napoleon, well…

Baobhan Sith is my waifu! My waifu is supreme!!

The "girl"—or rather, Baobhan Sith now—began to scroll through her skills and stats.

Back in the game, she'd never bothered to study these details much, so when she reached the parameters section…

"My waifu's Strength is actually A?!"

Could this be real? The daintiest-looking of the Fairy Knights had the highest Strength stat?

To put it in perspective, A-Rank Strength meant she shared a rank with none other than Xiang Yu, a true mountain-mover and hero of immense might.

And this isn't just the historical Xiang Yu; this is the Type-Moon world's version, an artificial immortal crafted by Qin Shi Huang from the mold of a celestial being. He could actually move mountains if he wanted to.

But as she read further, despite having A-Rank Strength… that Luck and Noble Phantasm were so low! D-Rank Luck, only a bit better than Lancer's infamous E-Rank Luck…

In that instant, Baobhan Sith suddenly understood why she had arrived in this world in such an absurdly unlucky way…

Aren't Archers supposed to excel in Noble Phantasms but struggle with close combat? Are you an Archer or a Berserker?

"Chirp!"

The little sparrow she had saved finally woke up, letting out a confused tweet.

"Oh, you're finally awake?"

Baobhan Sith looked down at the sparrow, and it looked back at her.

But in the next moment, the sparrow suddenly shivered… as if it had just seen something utterly terrifying.

Then, with a hurried flutter, it took off as fast as it could, like a snake was chasing it.

"I…"

By the time Baobhan Sith had come to her senses, the sparrow was already gone.

"Am I… that scary?"

Why'd it fly away the moment it saw me…?

Sure, I caused it to fall and pass out, but it wasn't intentional…

Just as Baobhan Sith was feeling dejected, Mash's voice suddenly came through the light screen.

"Senpai! Watch out behind you!"

"!!!"

A flash of pale light swept past, cleaving the tree she'd been leaning on clean in half, the cut surface smooth and pristine.

But Baobhan Sith herself was unharmed; relying on her A-Rank Agility, she'd leapt five meters away in an instant, her rose-red spiral curls and skirt trailing in the air.

"What the heck?!"

Baobhan Sith couldn't help but be startled—the creature before her was the very definition of a mental assault.

Its gray skin was deeply wrinkled, its arms ending not in hands, but in sickle-like blades. It had eyes on its head, shoulders, and chest, and even a human face embedded in its abdomen, with ominous dark energy swirling around it.

Utterly grotesque, to the point of nausea.

"This type of existence… a wraith? A phantasm? Hmm, neither seems quite right… The entity sustaining it is a concentrated form of malice."

Da Vinci's voice sounded unusually serious, as if analyzing the abomination in front of Baobhan Sith.

"Don't worry, Master. This thing doesn't even qualify as a proper phantasm. You're an official Heroic Spirit now; just keep your wits about you, and it'll be a breeze."

"But…"

Baobhan Sith hesitated; it was like dealing with a cockroach. You might have the strength to crush it, but it's still disgusting enough to make you hesitate.

However, just because Baobhan Sith was reluctant to make the first move didn't mean the creature would wait patiently.

The monster in front of her snarled with its two mouths, raising its sickle arms and charging at her.

That revolting face kept expanding in Baobhan Sith's vision, making her already pale face turn even paler.

Just as the massive sickle was about to cleave down, Baobhan Sith's pupils narrowed. Her gray eyes, reflecting the monstrous creature, filled with a chilling murderous intent.

Slash!

The sound of tearing flesh was followed by the spray of hot blood arcing through the air.
